  1. Just carry him in your arms? At 12 weeks he won't be too big or heavy to lift. The concern isn't so much inside the vet (as they mop and vacuum clinics twice a day) as to outside the vet and in the car park.
  2. Badger sounds just like Abbie. She looooves to rip apart all her beds (but only when no one's home). I quickly gave up on giving her anything expensive or easily destroyed, after coming home to stuffing and mattress everywhere on numerous times. I keep them outside during the day and they have a kennel with some carpet nailed to the floor and one of those kramar shadecloth beds. The mattress and blankets are all for indoors only now. Funny thing is though, i've come home and snuck up on them quite a few times before and they're always resting out on the lawn or on the bricks instead!
  3. I ended up switching her over to a glossed ceramic pet bowl i had lying around. Still using a plastic water bucket but the difference to her lips in the one week without the plastic food bowl has been great! funny how it took this long for her lips to start showing irritation though. Anyway this is a pic i took tonight..looking much more normal
  4. Just thought I'd say i got my calender last week. It's up on the wall a little early but i couldn't help myself all the visitors we've had have commented on the gorgeous photo on the front cover.
  5. i was under the impression that councils have the list of dangerous dogs they have registered and it is those people that have to follow the dangerous dog act. My two are council registered, neither are declared dangerous dogs, and i have two beware of dogs signs which can be seen from the main road we are on. The signs were there when we moved in but we've never had an issue.
  6. The buckle on the collar is metal. She is all ready microchipped, i just like having it on her for peace of mind when i'm not home. If she were to get out, the collar would be the first point of identification. I can and will definitely start taking it off her over night and when i get home in the afternoon to see if that makes a difference.
  7. No, she's not a water baby at all. Her current collar is a cheapy ebay thing so it might not even be real leather for all i know.
  8. It's all ready quite loose so it can't be that. I've seen a few online stores recommend rolled leather collars for dogs with hair loss. I wonder if that would help..
  9. I noticed over the weekend when i went to wash the dogs, that Abbie has quite a lot of hair loss on the underside of her neck, right where her collar sits. I keep her collar on 24/7. I know it's not recommended but it's peace of mind for me if she were to ever get out. Her current collar is 1.5cm wide leather. So i would basically just like to know what is best for a dog with sensitivity issues? I thought leather would be a better bet than nylon but her nylon harness i use when walking also causes a bit of redness on her so any ideas would be great
  10. anyone know where i can find ichthammol ointment? I went to the chemist yesterday looking for it as i thought it might help the lump on my dogs lip. The pharmacist said they only had an egoderm cream that had 1% ichthammol in it. She suggested magnoplasm but i wasn't sure if this could be used on dogs?
  11. Interesting. I'll switch her food bowl over to stainless steel. I use plastic buckets for water, but it should be fine to keep them considering she is only making contact with the water right?
  12. I find all the beds with loose stuffing don't last too long because they become flat and lumpy. I have a single bed mattress cut into two for my two. The matress was about a hundred dollars from bed shed. I was going to make covers but I got lazy and found a dog beanbag cover at kmart I think it was. Doesn't fit exact but it does the job I've been through a lot of dog beds but the mattresses have lasted the longest
  13. I second this. Coincidentally the only thing my pointer also has not yet destroyed (caught her chewing the corners of the material the other day but it's still holding strong) They're quite cheap as well. Always see them in stock at city farmers and better pets.
  14. Petcareshop increased the price of advocate by roughly $7. Seems little compared to your price rise but it was enough for me to look else where.
  15. I don't really shop there, but i have noticed prices have increased quite a bit at petcareshop aswell
  16. Just curious, what are they (vet) waiting for. It has been there a few days and has actually enlarged.. If it was my dog - I would have insisted on a fine needle aspirate for a preliminary diagnosis. That should tell you if you even need a biopsy (why put a dog through if if not necessary??) I hope he it goes down and he feels better soon. I'm not too sure. The vet just seemed to think it was an infection of some sort. It has gone down in size since but it's still there so I'll mention the fine needle asp. When I take him back for a check up,
  17. She does, why's that? If it's an irritation of some sort what could I put on it?
  18. Just wondered if it's an external factor such as sun exposure or an internal body factor that causes skin to loose colour. Abbie's lips used to be black, but i have noticed over the past month that the edges have gotten pink...It's looks a little more extreme then what it actually is in this photo because of the flash..
  19. I would suggest a stafford as well. I have a cross breed staffy who loves to play very rough. They are very robust, great with kids and have endless energy I also have a pointer, which is in your list. They do need quite a lot of exercise (but i find they need more mental stimulation then anything else). My girl is happy to lounge on the couch all day but she can be quite destructive when bored. She is very timid compared to my staffy x, and can be a bit of a target for bullies..but that might just be her individual personality. Pointers are a great breed but i think a staffy might be more suitable for you
  20. Fingers crossed no jumping over! My other dog, Buckley has been jumping on the roof (hence all the dirty marks) but i think that fence will stop him because there's a gap between the fence and the hutch. I got a very disapproving look from them when i erected it Just going to be annoying for me to get to the hutch now though!
  21. I went to bunnings this morning and got 2 of those compost cage packs. Problem solved..hopefully!
  22. Well...the lump, if anything had increased in size so i thought better to be safe then sorry and head to the vet. She gave it a good squeeze but nothing. It's definitely an infection of some sort so she has put him on cephalexin antibiotics. If it doesn't go down in the next few days we need to do a biopsy. Fingers crossed!
  23. Nope. Her stomach was shaved, but chest area wasn't touched. It seems to be much better since using the neocort so i'll just keep an eye on it
  24. I just wonder if the crib stop will be ok to put on the wood. It's a very thin cheap wood but i might give that a go. If not, the vicks. If all else fails..i'll have to erect the playpen around it. Thanks for all your ideas
