  1. We use a slicker brush or a kong zoom groom - they are made to collect hair, generally from the dog, but work just as well in the car!
  2. Starting off relatively small- a medium and a large snooza d1000 dog beds. (as I have already spent a small fortune on our beloved bed eater and a destuffer amongst us)
  3. Hi Huntia,V Just giving this a bit of a bump cause we have a similar issue at our house, puppy loves older (newer) rescue dog so much that he is doing the same thing to her- your not alone, hopefully someone will see with an idea to help us out!!!
  4. gosh I am SOOO excited..... hopefully this silly rain will pass before sunday....
  5. Oh I forgot... Digby also loves toilet brushes, and generally any thing with bristles which he likes to pull out one by one, including toothbrushes and brooms. (loves rakes to, but cannot pull bristles out of them) Very early on he ate right through the cord of my MacBook air. It was basically brand new and we live like 300kms from the nearest mac store, and my computer was useless without it.. needless to say I made a trip to Melbourne quite soon after that to the Genius Bar, where I complained that my puppy ate my cord.... they gave me a free one to replace it with.. $90 worth of free cord.. love awesome customer service.
  6. Digby is a really naughty eater.... his list includes: - the heel of a shoe. - underpants -Socks -hankies, which he tears up like minties wrappers and eats then poos out. (my husband managed to photograph this particular event mid poo to show me cause he didnt know what it was, so maybe this thread doesn't need photos tlc ) -anything that he can snatch off the bench or out of the bin. He has very much slowed on the inedible much preferring the edible these days. Tilly is a completely different story,,, she likes to eat: -Dog Beds -Dog pillows -Beds -Anything with fluff in it -beds -carpet -did I say beds?
  7. Digby and I will be marking this in our diaries and aiming to make it down! Just curious if DOLers get use of the Lagoon while there and if anyones dogs swim? Digby hasnt quite got the whole "swimming" thing yet, I'm thinking seeing other dogs getting into it may twig his brain.... We have a lovely lake where we live which he just doesn't quite get...lol List of dogs pip1981- Dakota AmaCam+Digby - Digby List of food pip1981- t.b.a AmaCam+Digby - also TBA.
  8. fair enough... good to do that breeder research really does make all the difference... two puppies at the same time or a gap in between?
  9. Yeah they are precious! Tilly is the little one and Digby is the bigger one (but he is the baby!) I see your screen name is "wantsapuppy", have you adopted a furkid since making your account? Amanda,
  10. We are in Boort- kinda "in the area" Amanda
  11. Hello All! just a quick question about our 24 week old Australian Cattle Dog, Blue Heeler, Digby. He just seems to be forever hungry, looking for food, bench surfing, bin diving, begging and eating all sorts of things (even the unedible!) He scoffs food like he hasnt seen a meal for a week. We feed him 2.5 cups of Purina Supercoat Puppy each day, 1 cup in the morning, half in the middle of the day and 1 cup at around 730-830pm. We are increasing it as he grows. He has been wormed each month since we got him, and seems to "eliminate" normally. However the eating and searching seems to never end. this came to a head tonight when myself or my OH must have not closed the laundry door thoroughly enough, and Digby has gotten in there, pulled down his bag of food and tore it open. He has obviously eaten as much as he could (not the entire bag), is now visibly full (not bloated, but quite tubby.) Despite this obvious fullness Digby is STILL searching and begging for food and bench surfing....... Are we doing something wrong? Not Feeding Enough, Should we spread the amount of food over a the day more? I just dont get it.....
  12. So sorry we didn't make it, I just realised last night that I had a large assignment due this afternoon that I had barely started! (had my weeks mixed up and thought it was due next week!) Turns out it was lucky I didn't come cause my husbands car broke down on his way home from work and I had to go and pick him up (we live like 200ks from Kepala and he works 50ks from home!) LOL!! I hope that you all had a totally awesome day. Im so devastated I couldn't bring Digby down for a play, hopefully next time! and hopefully by then we will have another furkid with us too! (fingers crossed!) looking forward to seeing some pics! Amanda.(and Digby)
  13. Hi all DOL'ers just found out today that Woolworths (Safeway) have just recently begun to offer Pet Insurance... the premiums seem to be quite reasonable as well... https://www.woolworthspetinsurance.com.au/Pages/Application/Default.aspx good to know....

We're very excited to make the road trip down for the first time, just curious to know if there is anything else we need to bring with us (deck chairs etc?). Also just wondering if anyones dogs listed above are pups under 12months? Digby is 6 months old. Might see if I can talk a few friends into bringing their pooches along.... see you there!
  17. If there was a prize for Champion Sleeper Dog, Digby would definitely be in the top 5 I reckon, he is deaf so has a bit of an unfair advantage, but it means that I can sneak in the back door past his crate with the shopping and get it into the kitchen before he even realises that I am home. Expecially if I tiptoe really lightly. HOWEVER.... today I came home from work (had only been gone for 3 hours max, to find there had been pandemonium while I was out: After a big day of breaking into the house, eating his fill of weetbix and (trying to) drink beer (it was empty apart from a dribble).... I can fully understand falling asleep on the dinner table. (I believe the shoes on the table had been placed there in an effort earlier in the morning to get them AWAY from Digby, interestingly he did not touch them while he on the table.) i am just glad that he did not chew my uni library books, that would have cost the earth in fines! Sorry about the low quality, i had to act fast to get the image!
  18. do these happen each month? We wont be able to make it this week (realised too late it was this weekend) but would love to come in the future? Amanda
  19. I have today shared these beautiful photos of my cutie boy Digby.....but I will share the love on this thread too. Digby is currently 18 weeks old, and is a pure ACD. It has been mentioned along the thread that there is deafness carried in ACD circles, and Digby is an example of this. I would definitely advise you not to write off any pup that you come across whom is endowed with decorative only ears. He is super loving, super smart and super quick! Not startled by much either! He is really really good at sleeping too! Here some pics for your enjoyment!
  20. WOW! what a variety of answers! Thank you all very much for your input. We have decided that Digby deserves our utmost (attention) for his highest (achievement) so we will be concentrating on him for the time being, and putting off getting another dog, puppy or otherwise for at least another 9 months! That said if any of you know of any other dol'ers who might be interested to make a commitment to a gorgeous little chocolate BC girl with great potential and ears for decoration only, please point them in my direction and I will hook then up with the breeder- she really does deserve a loving committed and driving owner who will expect great things from her, and have the time to take her there! Thanks again everyone! Amanda.
  21. Hi as the topic title say, I am looking for an obedience club or dog training crew I the Loddon shire. I am located in Boort. Any suggestions? Thanks. Amanda.
  22. Hello everyone! I need some opinions and advice about the two puppy issue. Here's the story: About 6 weeks ago we adopted our lovely Australian Cattle Dog boy Digby. While training is going well it has not been entirely straightforward as we have had to totally rework the way we communicate with him as he is deaf. He is now 14.5 weeks old, and is beggining to become a well mannered individual. Last night I got a phone call from a friend followed by a series of emails About a border collie pup, a girl, whom is also deaf, is 8 weeks old and looking for a home. We have been planning on getting another dog (maybe not this early, and an older rescue dog but hey the world works in mysterious ways). We are also able to afford the financial needs of two dogs and understand the time needs of a deaf dog. I have read a few articles and threads about this, but they all seem to be about getting puppies from the same litter, and at the same time. What do you guys think of this? Should we go for it?
  23. Hi, I am new to this whole social day thing... what time does the event start/end?
  24. If he had access to the outdoors then he has probably almost toilet trained himself so you won't need to use the crate for toilet training. Just use the room you have and give him regular access to outside, add a command word for toileting and he should catch on very quickly. Make it easier for him to settle at night and hold on to go out to the toilet by spacing the meals out more and feeding him the last one about an hour before you go to bed. Puppies need to toilet straight after eating, then about 9 hours later so feeding last thing at night fits in better with those times. Also 5.30pm to 7 am is far too long between meals. He is probably crying because he is hungry. As you won't need to use the crate for toilet training just make it a pleasant place by giving him treats or toys to keep him happy in there and gradually increase the time he spends crated until he gets used to it. Thanks so much this is very helpful. I was very tired on the first day, so I stressed over the little things. I have entrusted him to a bit of a bigger space while we are sleeping/out and there has only been one puddle (doh) the large space between meals and crying makes 100% sense so I will close that gap tonight and see how he goes. I had realised that he is very good at toileting outside, so have decided the crate will only be for long travel, thinking about using a harness for shorter travel. Thanks again!!! :)
  25. he is a BABY who has just been removed from everything he knows. So , yes, he will vocalise. Where does he sleep? What kind of crate have you? What exercise does he get? When do you feed him? What toilet training had he before you go him? Thanks, I think I may need reminding of that every now and then :S, he is super cute though..... I probably should have said how can I ease this transition some for him .... I has only been one night, he slept in our sunroom which has been cordoned off especially for him as a "pen" type area with some toys and an emergency toilet tray,, we were prepared to possibly have to deal with accidents, but there were none. touch wood we have a repeat of that tonight. . its an airline crate, a large one with a box in it to make it the right size for him. He follows me around all day, and we do some training, and a dig and a run around the back yard - he sleeps quite a bit too. Feed him at 7, 12, 530 + training treats. I am not sure what toilet training he had before we got him, He seemed to have a pretty free range kinda life (in an indoor/outdoor pen)
