Thanks , I have seen the matures bully adverts on dol . Some thought we were crazy to take on Teddy and Peanut. Their temperaments were fully questionable and took a lot of time and patience and love to turn into happy confident and steady dogs . Many would have surrendered them. We have learnt so much and want to give a broken bully a good chance. Juice and bullbreedboy , I respect what you are saying , and your comments were now on my mind x

Thanks Perry’s Mum for putting your reply so well. x a friend asked us the question ‘What would Peanut want?’. She always wanted us to be happy and was eternally grateful we got her out of a hell hole.

Yes , so unfair with an otherwise fit darling dog . Trubs picture made me cry . Knowing she has a vigilant guardian giving her love and care is a huge conciliation xxxxxxxx love for your beautiful labby x -
Hi , we have had two bullterriers for eight years . Adorabulls who we rescued . Teddy is 10, we are his third home and he is a big softy . Peanut ,the cutest sweet pea passed away on Wednesday. We were her forth home she was also 10. We are so devestated as is Teddy and the cat. Our family feels so incomplete without her. I have looked at the rescue sites and found two red and white bullies in need ,one in qld one in nsw . We are in Vic . Last time we lost a dog she was the only one and it took us a year to get these two .This time feels different. I don’t feel I’m rushing into it but maybe avoiding the heartache with distraction . Teddy is miserable and we are capable of reintegrating mistreated neglected bullies. Should I continue my quest for these darling dogs ? I haven’t posted in a long time . X

"the first of these would be the American Staffy... and to some extent many of the bull breeds....which are too strong minded mentally for most kids and these are a breed that although generally quite good with people are unpredictable with other dogs... hence makes them a poor choice for the average family." In a list of breeds to cross off for the average family , Bull breeds would definitely not be the first crossed off the list . Dogs that are not devoted or generally not fond of children would be .

Thanks for the correction sumosmum. . An informative link would be helpful too .I am well aware of DOT and sorry I did not take the time to fact check my post . I am taking the notion of 'effective advocacy' to the extreme with this issue -What we say and how we say it is crucial in turning public opinion and policy makers. So often I say nothing .Some involved in the anti-BSL community didn't get the memo and still don't understand the message .I am armed with all the information, ability to recall scientific facts with an index of all the National and International experts and organisations , yet using it to effect is my greatest challenge . The argument should be a slam-dunk but is not because of people's cognitive bias and in no way do I want to add to the prejudice. What bothers me is that BSL divides even dog people and overshadows the most important issue which is to overhaul animal management services to be fair and humane. If we do design something along the lines of the Calgary Model, BSL is then irrelevant. Bill Bruce never singles out breed in regard to animal management. This forum is full of canine owners who do not read and do not care because they still see the no BSL movement as a pro-pitbull debate and not critical in highlighting that science should dictate our approach to animal management.Again , sorry I didn't acknowledge DOT in my original post particularity in regards to funding Bill Bruce coming from Canada. Disclosure- I do not formally belong to any anti-BSL groups because I do not totally support their approach , but have supported dogs caught up in the legislation via these communities .

Where Do You Buy Your Collars?
huck house replied to Pretty Miss Emma's topic in General Dog Discussion
I was going to say that we use Black Dog collars and harnesses leads and longline .... But your right Pretty Miss Emma , they aren't that fancy looking...To be fair , they have a choice of colours ..... And what matters most :- comfort, safety and durability ( black dog repairs frayed or chewed items) As novices we spent the better part of $1000 working out what to deck our two rescues out in . We felt stupid and smug when we discovered the best products for us are being manufactured in Ferntree Gully Melbourne ! It would be fun to play dress ups and have snazzy collars for special occasions... But unless we win one in a raffle or something , I will not blow another cent on superfluous items sold by pet industries ! Hope the fosters find great homes x -
Bull Terrier = Overrated ?! Only by their owners ! The majority of the general public either don't know what they are anymore ... Or don't want to ! Bull Terrier = Clever ??!!??! Dense but loveable is probably more apt ! But on the emotional intelligence scale , both of ours are off the charts! They can sense if someone has a vulnerability and adjust accordingly . E.G :Stop being silly and gently lay next to child who just had open heart surgery . Act sweet and non threatening toward intellectually handicapped, loud and unpredictable neighbour . Their sense of humour has to be born out of some kind of intelligence right ?!

The greater worry is , what other polices enforced by legislation are the state government getting so horribly wrong?
