  1. I know this is a dog forum but it does have most relevance. I got a cat male 18mths soon to be desexed, not aggressive very affectionate comes inside and sleeps on floor or outside on cushion furniture. This cat loves to kill rabbits and brings them home to eat in the shed, he gets fed, everything from dry to chicken necks ect. he is also 1 of four that i have. he started a couple of months ago on the occasion all that i found was legs. today I've gone out to find he has caught 2 yes 2 baby rabbits ate half of one, by half i mean head, front legs and half of the torso. then went out and caught another and just ate it's head. I know rabbit carry diseases and also get poisoned so I am concerned about my dogs eating his left overs, But what is also concerning is, is he killing for fun???? He doesn't bother with birds or lizards or snakes when he sleeps on the veranda many birds walk past him to get to my dogs food he really couldn't care! and it's the dogs who like to chase down any bearded dragons that come into the yard to my disgust! and they get a stern talking to. this cat has grown with the dogs and is more likely to sleep in the dog kennel with the dogs then with the other cats. Do I have a problem cat?
  2. there is a guy his name is Gary Jackson, he has a security / sniffer dog training facility also boarding kennel and obedience training. I have Brought ex security dogs from him and had him train a german shep of mine years ago. He is very experienced with aggressive dogs and so are his workers. I don't have a number but he is located at narangba north of Brisbane.
  3. Goldies are really mouth orientated, All 3 of mine do it to my frustration at times. I tried getting my 3 yr old out of it for years she stopped doing it to me so much but still was relentless with licking anything (cats, birds, kids, cars) that made her excited. and with the other 2 I have gotten in the last year I have simply given up bothering about it.
  4. I think Goldies are fine outside, Mine as puppies until 4-6 mths were inside but then outside dogs as my house is not large and dogs laying on the floor or couch would take up heaps of room. I did consider keeping my boy as an inside Dog just cause his manners were impeccable. But once I stopped forcing him inside he stopped wanting to come inside, (maybe to crowded and noisy for him) He'd prefer to lay in the door way on the carport with the older girl. Since then I have build a dog pen that has a garden shed for a kennel both him and the younger girl love it the older one still prefers the carport. I don't get outside everyday and sometimes due to studdy, homework and soccer with the kids so they don't either, but having almost an acre just as a house fenced yard all of mine are happy doing zoomies, rough doggie play and a good general trot around the border my are very healthy size.
  5. I have 3 goldies, But only had this breed recently over the last 4 years. Yes the shed like crazy, but a good brush once a week with a dead coat pulling brush is more then enough. may be 2 a week after winter for a month or 2. Goldies do have a sense to put things in their mouths, so keeping an eye on they with small sticks (or the really big ones when they try and run past you with it) and also things like toads. Most seem to like to over eat so keeping a close eye on how much you give cause they won't stop. And act as if they've never been fed. Biggest sooky eyes so you'll have to have some discipline not to give in. I live on acreage so I don't actually go for a walk as per say. But if I'm not in the yard with them they have to be secured cause even if you've just spent 4 hours with them play and stuff they may go for their own walk. My 3 yr old has grown out of that she never gets penned any more but the 2 youngins can't be trusted. And where i am it is really bad cause farmers won't go for a closer look to make sure they aren't dingos. And of course training is essential. Make sure your breeder goes through any health problems with you. They are screened for hips /elbows /heart/ and eyes.
  6. I am just curious since it has been said about open door breeders and such. I intend to in the distant future start breeding have my foundation stock. (All goes well with training and or showing and health tests) But I knew I would love to have the puppy back or know where it is going if such a problem happens and the home I chosen didn't work out. Do you refund the purchase money ??? or any money ??? (this could be controversial I know ) I understand that once the pup leave on a realistic level I do have no say. But if the people i sell my baby to refuses to return due to not getting their money back what do you do? Cause you know in your heart that if you don't take it anyone willing to cash up will get them. Scary thought!
  7. Housing market is hard, I know when I specified my home out to rent, it was outside only. But the people who applied had dogs for health reasons therefore I was more then happy to allow it. Very next tenant dogs were to be outside. When me and my kids came back to live in it, the yard riddled in fleas you could barely move. House had fur in the curtains and I could just go on. The real estate was half to blame IMO as they did a brief walk through before signing the bond back. missed the fleas, fur and holes completely Not saying you are like this but others have had this experience or have been seriously warned about it. Cause in most areas housing is short it is easy to select a mature aged couple, no kids and no pets. The disrespectful people have ruined a lot for those whom do it the honest and decent way. I personally can't see me renting a house that I plan to live in with kids or dogs. I know it is horrible to say but a house is a huge expense which more often then not rent don't cover the repayments, so if they miss rent. it makes it twice as hard. However if I ever own an investment only property it won't matter as much.
  8. Two of my goldens got out yesterday, i'd let them out of the pen and closed front gate, but the puppy can fit through the wire. I usually leave lil ruby out to play with the big dogs for half an hour as i hand washing or tend the horses ect, but i had to come inside to bring the kitten and got distracted by a phone call and so on it 40 mins later i notice i had forgot ruby was out playing. i went out there and my heart sank as i walked around the house. Only Chloe was home. So up and down the street i went screaming their names (we live in the country the smallest block around is 10 acres but most 200+) the power reading man came saw me as he was reading the meter told me he'd look out, and I rang the council (bloody good that does they don't even know their own laws told me they call me back when they knew) so i reported he chip no altho they don't have chip reading facilities cause it's only been compulsory to register dogs here for 12mths. I also ran the police because property owners have the right to shoot dogs if they cause problems to livestock and if the property owner says they did they did apparently so i was frantic at this point. Chaos 1yr came home through across the roads property but with out lil ruby 5 mth, oh i felt so bad then she doesn't usually leave his side. I had also called the breeder of ruby because the chip was registered in her name by then. Hours past and i was calling well into the night done up posters to put out next day when vet opened. and i was calling at 10:30 and got a mouthful of abuse from one of my neighbor but i kept calling for a few mins came inside pretty much in tears then at 11 tapping on glass from ruby OMG i tell ya never felt so relieved.
  9. I Think the goldens are a great idea young or old. I have 3 at the moment we got them all as puppies and the oldest is 4. My kids are now 6 and 7 year, our first was a girl. the golden wasn't our first dogs while the kids were growing up we had a grown shepherd and a grown rottie then brought a shepherd pup. I really recommend them and defiantly from an experience sociable breeder, 2 of my goldens Chaos a yr old male and Ruby a 4 mth old female both go to Obedience training and my kids soccer games. Chaos was also invited to a childs birthday party because the child 6 yr old had a fear of dogs after being bitten on the face as a child by the grandmothers shit zu. (owner error of course) My kids were never dog shy as we have owned and been around shepherds, rotties, wolfhoud x, cattle ddgs and x. My son loves tackling and running with our goldens and even with this as the usual, Chaos was very mindful of the smaller kids at the party and soccer and especially the kids that screamed and backed off he just turned and walked away until they were interested again. this he was never trained to do just in his nature as with Ruby. these some photos of Of the 2 with a friends 2 yr old boy.
  10. Maybe a 2 or 3 section doco that covered all of these bases The problems that back yard/ puppy farms cause on the well being of the dog short and long term pounds and rescues and the over crowding and heart ache of those who can't find homes (or just can't be placed) as well as the countless hours of effort put in by those who run it and the volunteers. And the Efforts and devotion that ethical reg breeders go though to provide a beautiful, safe and healthy puppy. I just think if your gonna show why it shouldn't be done, it's better to give the option where to go to get a family pet that be either a rescue/pound or ethical Breeder. But I also think the the dollar values should be mention in all three cases. I know of people who have it set in their mind and all efforts to prove otherwise fruitless, they can get a dog off a notice board for less then $100 why pay $800 ++ from a breeder or even $200- $300 from a pound or rescue. and that they've always done that and never had 'problems'. I think it needs to be put out there that 1 good dog with no 'problems' don't make up for the 1000s that do or get dumped.
  11. I think golden retriever is a good one, very trainable very cuddly. But if the coat is too much Friends of mine have just got their first dog, they choose a lab, the have a six yr old daughter and the father is a police officer who takes him on a morning/ afternoon run pending on shift. He has just fit in with everyone within the family individually.
  12. I think that sort of thinking stereo types people as well as dogs and neither is good, one of those 'Bogans' might have been a police officer or business man you wouldn't know. Just because a guy wears trackies and a singlet with a tat on his arm, while walking his 'bull dog type' dog does not mean he is a lower desired person by the general public. Besides that many clips in that where of children with the dogs in a clean respectable yard, and I believe one clip was Micheal J fox(I could be wrong), who was never regarded for having a tough guy or bad image.
  13. Donations can be made to the Commonwealth Bank, BSB 063-168, account number 10812802. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/more-news/child-killed-in-dog-attack-at-st-albans/story-fn7x8me2-1226117746965 I don't like how that have summarized where dangerous dogs are in vic at the bottom of the page nor used a pic of a mean pitty but the do have info just a bit back about donations for the little girls family Prob best to ring comm bank to confirm they are taking the donations and that those are the right details before going ahead. Good - don't need this breed of dog. It's certaiinly not what one would class a "family" dog. It's a fighting dog. Thats a horrible thing to say. I mentioned in a previous post yesterday, i helped save a male pitty who belonged to four boys. That dog IS the safest dog they own out of 5. They can be perfect family pets!
  15. I feel for the family, Never good to loose a child. But as for the Pit bull slander, 2 days ago i was in my friends car holding a IV drip for her Pitty as we drove an hour to our vet's main surgery. (we live in the sticks) He had escaped his yard and got hit by a car not sure if it was intentional. I am not a pit bull fan for a breed I'd own personally, (But I'd have one of the before a pug or almost any small dog. ONLY by personal preference not by breed discrimination) Anyways this boy lives with 4 rough and tumble boys ages ranged from 3mths to 15 years. He is one of 5 dogs owned by the family other breeds include 2 shar pei's and 2 rescue bitza. He out of all the very safe dog is considered the safest affectionate loving dog! while his training has been minimal (recall really bad) and has even been on a pig hunt once or twice (unsuccessfully) he was never as a pup shown or allowed to show any aggression to cats or chooks. The breeding of this dog, father a vicious pigger with strong natural instinct whom quite often has to be penned around the family, mother a trained guard dog. Delta-pup is proof enough in the right home ANY dog breed regardless has a chance to become a respectful pet dog safe for all ages. Singling this breed because of stigmata and poor ownership is the worst thing that could possibly happen for dogs in Australia. BTW Delta-pup who looked in very bad condition with major gashes to head and abdomen, is home safe and well cuddled up on the couch with his boys. Lucky dog and Lucky family to have such a wonderful pet!!!!!
  16. LMAO! yes , yes it would be I have 3 goldens a 3yr, a 11mth and a 3 mth. not one would hesitate in licking anyone to death. Been such a change in dog to what i'm used to as they seem so mush more emotionally vulnerable . Growing up we had shepherds and rotties. tho I do miss the integrity of sheps and rotties. But enjoying the different pace of life with my goldens.
  17. Funny as! but i quiched a bit everytime the fork went into the dogs mouths

  20. Yeah He was one of those really awesome dogz you'll remember til your old and grey. We had a chi hua hua at the time we had him the chi ran up to the fence barking and what not , people would just laugh till the rotti stood behind her and then they'd walk a lil faster, I used to love watching that Good luck with the kitty, hope it all works out
  21. When i was a small girl we had a very large male rotti, he used to go chasing cats full growl and bark, i swore if ever got one it be really bad. Then one day our cat had a litter we didn't even know she was pregnant. the kittens were only a week old and the jaws (the rotti) got in under the house. He scared the mother off and when i got under there and was just smelling and licking them so i took him out but one was missing. we looked around but couldn't find it anywhere. About an hour later i saw him walking around with something in his mouth i of course panicked and being only twelve screamed at him and ran up. he dropped it as i ran up but when i got closer he picked it back up and ran off to him bed. He laid back down and looked at me with sooky eyes whimpering. and there the kitten was soggy and sticky crawling around. it was the cutest thing i had ever seen.the point of my story is even the meanest cat chaser generally has an idea of a baby animal, and if you dog really meant it harm it would be showing it and probably could have when the opportunity was given. I wouldn't let them be unsupervised but it in time most likely work out. I also had a German shepherd who wasn't a chaser of any animal, but she used to have guinea pigs crawl over her. Unless you have at some point encouraged your rotti to be aggressive to small animals there is a chance they could be ok. As for the kitten having an owner, mother cats rarely put kittens at risk by taking them on long journeys. My opinion if you can and want to keep it, it would probably have the best life with you. shelters are over run and should probably only go there if you can't care for it.
  22. Well honestly I know I keep saying it but I really do appreciate it. And the way you guys have responded has really reassured me. I didn't know what to expect when I posted. But I see people who love what they do defend it was a polite passion, and those who see the breeders point of view, explain why it may have happened that way. I was never made to feel like I needed to defend myself rather then explain. I Currently have golden retrievers and Will defiantly be going to shows, I may just stick with the obedience for the very near future and maybe branch out a little later, but keep an open mind when contacting and meeting show breeders. And I will probably look into getting the prefix just in case everything works out.
  23. Oh my sorry about the spelling, i need a new keyboard I try to proof read first but was in a hurry As for the prefix, Is it really better to obtain it first?. Kynan Your raise a point of view I hadn't really thought about in that way. I guess I believed by not getting it I was showing I wasn't trying to rush things....... I really Appreciate the constrictive criticism, and support in what I'm trying to achieve. And i Have more often or not rang rather then email as tone and enthusiasm is lost and I have a chance to explain and define what I mean before they have concluded their opinions, most of the time at least.
