  1. I don't eat at many cafes but when we walk on the Strand we often go to Gelatissimo and she always sits outside with me while I eat my gelato. I wonder if she's so well-behaved because she knows she gets to lick the container clean after I'm finished? She always gets a lot of attention and loves being patted and fussed over - but then that's true when I have her out really any crowded public place, because of her size and breed. Here is Maya terrorizing customers while waiting for me to come back outside ;) Also - I had NO idea dogs were permitted on trains in Victoria!! There goes my response to those who've asked me why Maya isn't coming to Melbourne with me in May... "I have to travel everywhere in Melbourne by train, Maya wouldn't be able to come!"
  2. Maya was terrified of the three-week old kittens I fostered. I tried to bring her down the hallway on a leash to see them after a few days and she turned into a carton dog, slid down on her belly and let me pull her along the floor. *eyeroll*
  3. Very informative thread, thanks for all those who've contributed. I am lookign at getting Maya titre tested once her next vaccination is due. I'm on the fence though about kennel cough. In the end it's likely I'll still have to carry on with that, since I believe with my agility club here it is a requirement, so I may have that in favour. I think it would also be interesting to get Zeke done. He was vaccinated last year for the first time in three years, because he had to go into a kennel. Prior to that he had the full set of puppy vaccinations and several years of annual vaccinations, I would never have dreamed of questioning the vet back then!
  4. Hey Cheys, how are you going with your search? Other people have made really good points with the type of breeder this person seemed to be so I won't repeat things there, I agree with what has been stated. I have a bit of input for you as to some breed info, since your second-last post you weren't sure about Golden/Lab :) Firstly, I should mention I am biased towards Goldens since I was best friends with one called Husky as a child, BUT I also own a lab cross so I love them as well! VERY general statements - Goldens need slightly more grooming time. (A plus for me. I love spending grooming time with my kids :)) Labs CAN be sillier and more high-energy (read: ballistic) until they're a few years old. However I have known Goldens to go through this silly loopy stage as well :p Try to met up with some labs/goldens in your area to help make up your mind? I went through the reg verses byb when I got Maya. I am so glad I waited and went with the initial registered breeder I liked - she took the time to match me with a perfect pet-temperment Anatolian, and she's healthy as a horse! If I had gone for the cheaper, quicker option - well, I doubt I'd have a pup with as nice a nature, and I could by now be dealing with hip displaysia - or worse.
  5. Griz these are just magic!!! Thank you for sharing them :) The Wild Dog is my fave - what a magnificent animal they are. I also love the photos of your Saluki, stunning dog - do you happen to have a photo thread up somewhere?
  6. Huh... you would think they wanted working dogs in that situation to be a bit more imposing! You know, since they aren't there to socialize, but do a job. I don't know how long these videos stay up for but atm you can view the story Project 12 Feb starting at 18:55. Wally was really making good points, pity the news team didn't actually run with them. They suggest that breeding crossbreds causes health problems - er, no, the BYB trying to make a buck off them and breeding without caring about health is what causes problems with them, same as with purebreds.
  7. These were my first thoughts too. The time it escaped into the neighbor's yard and scared the kids there was likely the only time it go anything resembling a 'walk'
  8. Get some flyers done up and send/deliver to every vet clinic, produce store, pet store, and animal business who might have noticed him (groomers, trainers, boarding kennels) and definitely agree with all social media, gumtree, get the word out. Best of luck for a safe return.
  9. I Am Legend. I regret I ever saw that movie so much, however much my OT thinks it's a classic... *eyeroll* This is a very helpful website :) The hardest part of watching the latest Riddick
  10. Exactly right. What we have is a big over-coddled breed, I'm going to go ahead and guess still undesexed from the fact he has a daughter, who hasn't been raised with respect and most likely has behavioral issues that the owner OUGHT to be seeking professional help for. But since she's in denial and thinks she owns a baby, not a dog, that is unlikely to happen. I hope no innocent gets harmed because of her attitude...
  11. Tempting Pandatolian... I do have some stencils for maple leaves and snowflakes, and I am considering writing World's Greatest Shave' in colour, even though she isn't shaving of course, but then when we go out in public, people might realize what it was for :p I got three of the little dyex tubes, will talk to the groomer who's lined up to do it and see if she thinks it's enough :)
  12. Dammit! Meant to be dyex in the title. I must read my titles. Okay, so the plan is I'm putting together a Canine team to colour for World's Greatest shave :) Dyex looks like the way to go as far as brands of pet dyes go, but has anybody had experiences that they'd like to share, or recommend something different? Yes, I'll put up photos after we're done :) Edit: Oh, how far will a 50Ml tube stretch? I'm going to do mainly patterns and designs, I'm not dying the whole of Maya :p So I'm getting three colours for her... is that going to be enough to decorate a smallish Anatolian? :p
  13. Okay okay tonight I'll put some on photobucket and catch everyone up :p They can be very massive! Maya is only a little girl, but she has some biiiig relatives! If you want lots more photos, just click through that sig photo in the link :) I got some great snapshots of Maya and some doggy friends at her buddy Austin's birthday BBQ i couldn't resist sharing! "What? Austin got on the table first..." "Haha, stole your toy!" Playing on the beach! Playing with new friend Kobie! Love this one of Kobie with his sister Lily, though she is just a baby she is definitely the boss of him! Birthday cuddles for Austin <3
  14. Here's Leo in any case, whom I adopted as a 2y old, he is a Ragdoll cross and very floppy and sooky!
  15. Okay, I swear this time I'm not going to slack off and I'll keep this thread updated regularly! (Have we heard this before? :p) I haven't been around in a while and so if you don't know me, my name is Chris and I am making up for a childhood largely without pets by surrounding myself with them in adult life... I cannot believe how quickly my girl Maya has grown up. She's nearly two now and people laugh when I tell her 'good puppy' when we're out training. \ She's still very much a beach girl and loves the water. How could you not in a Townsville summer?! ... won't let me upload anything else... has the limit been decreased or do you have to post photos one per post now...?
  16. Stunning photos! I love the early ones with his siblings <3
  17. Owning an Anatolian has altered my perception of 'big dog' - I have met so many bigger Anatolians than Maya, but all the comments when we're in public of 'whoa big dog!' 'put a saddle on it!' get old... everybody else sees her as a huge dog but I just go 'She's tiny! See her play with her Dane friend, THAT is a big dog!!'
  18. What a relief one magistrate has handed down a fitting sentence, so rarely seen in justice for animal cruelty cases. Hopefully this will set a prescient. People who abuse their animals so badly do not deserve them. Well done Michael Daly!
  19. A beautiful, happy and healthy looking pair!
  20. Thanks for the suggestions, looks like I will be applying for my first credit card - scary!
  21. ...I can't find a single vet in my area who accepts direct payments from them. The entire reason I'm looking into insurance for Maya is of course because I'm worried about raising large sums of money... let's say something over $2000... in case of emergency. I mean yes, it's beyond great if after 6 (or 6+) weeks you get your money back, but if you don't have it in the first place... what then? I know from reading threads here too that Petplan can take forever to pay up, but that they're the only company who cover 100% of vet bills, not just up to 80%. I'm just not sure if it's really going to help me out in an emergency situation or not. I'd hate to let money get in the way of the best care for my girl, but... if she got hit by a car tomorrow and her recovery costs were $7000, I don't have that. I probably couldn't even beg half of that from family/friends, honestly. Does anyone have experience with vets doing direct payments with Petplan? Is this something that only happens with capital city big vets? I gather most people just do the claim as normal - how do people go raising large sums in a short amount of time? On the fence...
  22. There's these new inventions called mailboxes that were invented not so long ago... and who surveys door to door in the age of the internet?
  23. Fingers crossed but the fact they went out of their way to mention BSL was not being put into effect, that's a good start.
  24. I've been trying to find a photo but can't spot one online. I am getting lots of fascinating articles about Zoe Saldana and her dog though :p Chris Pine is quite nice to look at :D Outstanding performance, too!
