  1. One of my favourite ever books, A Dog's Purpose! It's so well written, you never forget the perspective is from a dog's POV, so heartwamring. Gets five stars from me!
  2. I saw it. Biiiig mistake. Cried almost as much as Hachi, will never be able to watch it a second time
  3. Bolt! My all time favourite animated dog movie :D John Travolta does a magnificent job voicing him. Eight Below 101 & 102 Dalmatians (Who could resist cute puppies and Ioan Grufford? :D) Napoleon Beethoven 1 & 2 Marmaduke Snow Dogs Footrot Flats
  4. Neither did me and Mum! She taped it specially, ad we watched it together... bawled. The entire last half of the movie we were just in tears! We looked at one another when it was finished and swore we would never be able to watch it again, too sad.
  5. Nice to hear ou might be coming back to Aussie Sandgrubber That map looks fairly accurate to some extent. For example here in Townsville, the paralysis is not common in the city or suburbs, is it mainly found in the more out-lying areas with lots of bush around. Anytime me and Zeke head out after I walk in any tick-prone area, I run the brush over him when we get home Good luck with your decision, and also the move if it goes ahead - I know how exhausting the whole thing is, and I've never moved countries!
  6. Their loyalty just knows no bounds sometimes, does it? Our best friends will remani that way until their dying breaths. Brings to mind some of he other dogs who have done this. Nobody should ever watch the Hachi movie. Way. too. Sad.
  7. I don't think it was a stupid thing she has done, it's part of her job. Dog attacks can happen so swiftly even those trained to deal with that sort of thing can be caught out. I think this ranger was very brave, and at least her and her department were trying to do the right thing - get dangerous dogs out of somebody's property. It would have been worse if the response had been 'Gee, they look too dangerous for me to do anything. I better just call the police to tazer them, or maybe they could just stay in your yard til they get bored?'
  8. Those poor rotties. My heart goes out to their owner and Phoenix, who must be missing her buddies
  9. I earn just a little more than that, but I do share the household expenses - mortgage, renovations - bills, food - with my partner. I budget very carefully, and though I would find it very difficult to live without James's help, I think I could manage all but the mortgage. That would be very hard.
  10. Silly Gibbs! How about big clod bones or leg bones cut in half? Can he eat beef bones?
  11. Can I second that? :D Advise for destructive boy! Rawhide chews, for an outside toy a kong filed with frozen water & beefstock, and I am a huge fan of the Starmark's interactive toys, the everlasting treat ball is my pick :D http://aboutdogtraining.sitestreet.com/173/Everlasting_Treat_Ball.htm
  12. Yeah, but so is reproduction. We quite happily desex our pets using much more invasive surgery to debarking. I have a desexed bitch here. The reason she was desexed was, ultimately, to make my life easier I have no problems with someone debarking their dogs. It can ultimately make the owner's, the neighbours' and the council's lives easier. You could probably make the argument that desexing also benefits the dog as well but of course that is debatable topic with lots of pros and cons in itself. But for that same reason I would remain wary until I knew more about the procedure myself. There was a time when everybody desexed and said it was a routine operation and few people had ever found problems with it. Now there seems to be a lot more info available, after it's been common practice for how long. It's very interesting to read people's experiences though and I still think that while I wouldn't do it I understand why some people have.
  13. Nice one! Those little green tags are like magical force fields, doncha know... Are they green in Vic?
  14. Is that all Maverick? Thanks for lovely comments about Zeke Stan's Mum
  15. What lovely photos... first one is my fave, those innocent faces blinking out the door :D
  16. I have mixed feelings... I admit my kneejerk reaction was 'No way, barking is natural and shouldn't be restricted in that way' but after reading on I am a bit conflicted. Indeed there seem to be some circumstances where it has been used to good effect. I couldn't do it to a dog I owned, but I do see the sense in debarking if other measures fail and there are chances of rehoming, baiting, or being PTS. Overall I will reserve judgement until I have learned more.
  17. That is a very interesting statement to me. Have you (Or others in the vet industry, open question) seen many already vaccinated adult dogs come in with parvo?
  18. I just posted some details on easier titre testing in another health thread here. I've been looking around for an easier, more effective $ solution. Link at all? Very interested in learning more about this topic.
  19. I would cover only if there were no easy access point for the dog to get out of the pool myself, or with a young pup. I wouldn't cover for a pool that wasn't deep enough for the dog to get off their feet either. But then Zeke is such a waterdog I might be more careful if i had a dog who disliked water and not known to be a good swimmer.
  20. That's interesting that one paper says 'facial scratches' on the baby and the other reports 'horrific facial injuries' - wonder which is closer to the actual truth?
  21. *sighs* At least the article points out some anti-BSL points.
  22. LOL how amusing! 'I said fetch, not fish' - that is a very excellent headline!
