  1. I've picked up a couple bags of the puppy for Maya, my Anatolian, while it's on the buy one get one free special. She loves it, but them, she doesn't strike me as the fussiest pup in the world  I did get a couple cans on sample for both Maya and my cat, Sage. I am the biggest critic of canned food you'll find and I never feed any to my dogs or cat, even the premium stuff, but I did give this a go. Good meaty and vegie chunks in the dog food (Maya unsurprisingly scoffed it) and Sage was so enthusiastic about the cat canned food, I would actually considering gettnig him the odd one as a treat :)
  2. I would expect the media to blame whatever breed they think will get the most interest in the story. Bull bull bull. Perhaps a fight broke out and he was trying to intervene? I wonder how much the owner/breeder will say about the attack. Since the police had to shoot them to prevent further harm this clearly isn't a single bite in the heat of the moment.
  3. Just saw this on the news in a brief news update, the dogs were reported as 'American Bulldogs' and they belong to the man who was mauled.
  4. Yes mice come in MANY coat colours and several coat types - I am lucky enough to have a nice range of both :) Similar in some ways. With Selkirks if they don't inherit the dominant rex gene from their parents, they don't show rexing and cannot carry rexing, you need to breed them to a rex in order to have rex kittens pop up. There is also a difference between a Selkirk with one copy of rex genes and a Selkirk with two copies of the rex gene. In the same way the rex gene for mice is dominant, but you wouldn't call a non-rex offspring from a rex mouse a rex. (They are not breeds unlike in cats). Yes you get short-haired rex and longcoat/longhaired texes in mice. Standard rex coats in mice often do not look very curly at all, like my Lena, above. This is her as a baby where you can clearly see her curly coat in evidence. Most of my Rexes are longcoat rexes which I have a soft spot for, the longcoats keep better rex texture to the fur throughout life. Like with Selkirks you can have a longcoat rex with one or two copies of the rex genes. Double Rexes tend to show a much poorer curly coat than a single rex does.
  5. Lena, Chocolate Tan Rex. Mia, Black Tan Longcoat Rex Moonstone, Siamese Fox Longcoat Rex Nadia, Black Tan Longcoat Rex Ranger, Black Tan Longcoat Rex. Ranger is one of my biggest mice, though some of it is just floof from his enormous coat! Sonya, Snow Tiger Longcoat - I love her expression here!
  6. Still playing with the new camera, did a big photoshoot today with my fancy mice and thought I'd share some pics here and introduce my Fancies. This is Aragorn, my Black Tan Longcoat Rex, mysteriously roaning out white (Not from old age he started loosing pigment at eight weeks old!) Arya, my lovely lovely girl, Black Tan Longcoat Bluebird, Dove Tan Longcoat Rex Carmen, Burmese Fox Longcoat Rex Eragon, Siamese Fox Rex - I love this photo of him, I think he looks like a rabbit Irina, Chocolate Tan. She is the most athletic of my mice and an avid climber! Kate, Burmese Longcoat Rex The lovely Leah, Black Tan. She is the eldest of my girls but still looking fantastic
  7. I love my flowers and my pets and have plenty of both. As is my tagline on another forum "I love to live surrounded by life" :)
  8. Oooh I want to see those pics please :D Photos!
  9. My heart breaks for poor Matilda, Bosley, and their owners. Nobody should have to go through something like that with their beloved family pets. I hope the owners are severely fined, and are never allowed to own dogs again (we can only hope). This video must have moved as it's now a link to diary farmers protesting. If they were declared dangerous dogs that should indeed up the penalty. Great logic. Agreed.
  10. That's a very devoted mother and sweet story. Such a shame one of her pups died but if she had not acted the whole family could have. And her instincts are spot on, to take the pups to the step of the fire truck, amazing photos.
  11. One of my budgies, Kalani, with yellow Turquoise parrot Cream Bourke parrots Calypso, my Pale-head Rosella The two new budgies Trio of budgies! Overall, I'm really happy with this little camera, just what I wanted :D

  14. My waterproof Panasonic TS4 arrived today, purchased after advice from some wise DOLers I was so pleased - six days it took between purchase and arriving, I was on a day off and home to sign, and so of course we had to plan a beach day with the kids to trial run it. Splashed it repeatedly and dunked a few times in shallow salt water and it's as good as new :D Been running around taking happy snaps all day naturally! Twins! An example of max zoom - Maya was watching some pelicans fly off. Zeke looks over right as I take the photo! Maya being crazy! WIGGLE WIGGLE WIGGLE! I so wish I was closer when I took this photo
  15. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/838514-REG/Panasonic_DMC_TS4D_LUMIX_DMC_TS4_Digital_Camera.html In the end I ordered this a few days ago and it just arrived a half hour ago :D Battery is on charge and there's a beach day planned for us to trial run ASAP

  17. Yup saw that one on FB a few days ago Just beautiful. I do love to read some good news every so often!
  18. Well I'm a bit blown away by the shipping - it arrived this morning :D Only paid for regular yet here it is in six days, couldn't be happier. Offically the fastest item I've ever received from the US and I buy books and DVDs from there all the time. Battery is charging now - can't wait! Beach day for us today!
  19. Oh no, I hope they're both okay! They look happy in their photos, they are strong, and they are loved - keep us updated!
  20. Well those photos speak for themselves don't they! Indoors looks to be a little better than what I have currently and those outdoor photos just WOW. You've sold me - I ordered one :D
  21. I get that but I'm not going to allow ANKC breeder behaviour to be the rationale for BYBs and pet shops to be advocated as appropriate sources of pups. You don't fix one issue by giving worse alternatives as the solution. Oh I absolutely agree. I was pointing out that not all problem dogs come from pet shops/puppy mills, some from BYB. We need a broader method of reaching people that addresses more aspects of the problem, eg it would be easy for somebody who had heard not to buy from a pet store to find an internet, newspaper add or word of mouth, buy from a backyard breeder, and acquire a dog on impulse with little to no research or advice given on the breed.
  22. *dives into thread* Been looking for a waterproof for my next camera, must say this one is tempting, good price too... Minimax can I be nosy and ask what you paid from digitalcamerawarehouse.com with shipping? Kja how does yours go taking photos indoors/outdoors when not in water? :)
  23. Zeke went in to get a couple of lumps checked out today and after a needle aspirate the vet diagnoses lipomas. Apart from one on his eyelid which she thinks it a wart, and gave me some tricin cream, on the offchance that will clear it up. Of course I'll see how that goes before making a final decision, but with the swiftness of the wart's appearance I would rather get it removed while it is small, rather than let it get any bigger and irritate Zeke's eye. My vet recommends removal of the two lipomas (one on his side, one one his shoulder) at the same time if they're putting him under for removal of the wart. If I didn't want the wart removed, a 'wait and see' recommendation for all three. I hoped for some feedback from anyone here who's undergone similar operations with their dogs. How did you dog recover? How many lipomas removed? Would you leave any further ones or remove them as well? Zeke is an eight year old Lab x Cattle dog and aside from some arthritis in his back legs he has been given a clean bill of health, he is fit and happy. I know any surgery has inherent risks but there is no reason Zeke can't enjoy several years yet with a good quality of life. I'm of two minds about removing the lipomas... my first instinct says do it, as the one on his side it about the size of my palm, and appeared in a matter of days which worried me because its growth was so rapid. But them I wonder am I just overreacting with the general OMG LUMP GET IT OFF reaction and subjecting him to the stress of surgery? Is there really going to be much of a difference between surgery wart removal from the eye VS surgery wart plus lipomas removal? Advice please?
