Yup they are very common. They are an introduced pest that prey on our native wildlife. We had a dog that used to kill a hedgehog almost every night, she had some nasty scars on her face from it but never caught anything. I think the hedgehogs kept coming back every night because they could smell the other dead hedgehogs and must have been hungry

Ooo I would LOVE that thanks! PMing you now

Thanks for the link, will start reading up now! Great aren't they? :D Been spending a lot of time with the breed lately, they are a lot of fun! Libby loves her cows But they don't always love her... She is fast at running away though! Lottie just avoids all contact with the cows.... not their poop though!

I was using the longer kit lens, efs 55-250mm, for what it's worth. Yes shooting in auto, in sports mode so I have lots of pictures to choose from! I have been trying to figure out the manual thing, taking a photo, then changing a setting, then taking the same photo and trying to see what the difference is, but that's not working... So I think I will have to find some good online tutorials and sit down one evening and actually read something!

My parents have 1/2 an acre in deer fence off the side of the house, which the dogs have free access to and can be locked in when no one is home, and the rest of the 5 acres has sheep fencing. They are only allowed out there with supervision.

Hahaha, there was one of those in the litter :p She was the leggiest of them all, I still hope she stays small though, at least under mini height (not sure what that is for Aussies sorry!) :D She is a lot of fun so far, I have read some awful things about the mix online, being crazy, OTT, not suited for any home... But she is lovely so far, sleeps through the night without a peep, will settle and rest when it's time, but is a monster on the tug, and sooo much fun to train with, she picks things up very quickly. So far I am seeing far more terrier than Border though, she has SO much attitude and is the most confident little pup I have ever met... Someone forgot to tell her that baby puppies are meant to want to stick close to their owners! She is so independent and loves to go off exploring on her own on the farm... I see a lot of long-line in her future LOL I do hope that the rest of her litter got given to country homes though, she is pretty full-on and I'm sure her litter mates would be a handful for a lazy pet home!

Close enough! She is a Jack Russell x Border Collie My little future agility star!

I got a canon 550D, it's lots of fun so far, but I have a lot to learn! Enjoy some of the many dog photos I have taken! Lottie (Dobe) and Libby (Ridgeback X) out on my parent's farm.

I wish! hehehe Hint... She is an accident, the result of someone's small dog getting it on with a farm dog (why farmers insist on keep their working bitches intact I will never understand).

Introducing my new puppy, Elsie. 13 week old mix breed pup. Any guesses on the mix? :D (playing fetch with her favourite toy, which is the same size as her!)

If You Were Choosing A Breed On Looks Alone...
Podengo replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
On looks alone... 1) Saluki - has been for as long as I can remember! From the first time I saw a Saluki in a dog breed book, I have loved them. If I could have a Doberman in a Saluki body, I would be in heaven :p 2) Bullmastiff 3) Italian Greyhound 4) Doberman 5) Hmm... Papillon perhaps... -
My dogs all love the stuffing free stuffies! Another favourite toy is the "karlie muff" pup.

My order arrived at my friend's house today, but I am away and can't play with it yet! Can't wait to get home! (to see puppy and new clean run toys!)

What Breeds / X-breeds Show Up In Shelters?
Podengo replied to sandgrubber's topic in General Dog Discussion
I keep an eye on the websites for the shelters here in CHCH, and very occasionally there are purebred dogs (in the past month I have seen an 8-10yr old lab and a few older Jack Russells), but generally there are bully breed mixes, lab mixes and border collie mixes. Looking at the private rehoming on websites like trademe though, there is a HUGE number of 6 month old-2 year old huskies. There are actually often more older huskies being rehomed than there are litters of huskies on there... it's crazy! -
Can't wait for my package to arrive! For my new puppy I got... - A busy dog treat dispensing ball - A Ruff Tuff Woolley bite bar tug - A small and a medium bad cuz - A stuffing free rabbit with loads of squeakers - Udder tug toy - Chase it flirt pole dog toy, and a replacement squirrel for it

Alright making my order this morning, combining shipping with a friend as we were worried we might not be able to spend $100 to get the free shipping... Well here I am with $140 of dog toys on my list, and my puppy doesn't even come home until tomorrow... and I already have loads of toys for her....

I also don't understand what people get out of cats as pets. My partner has a cat who has got to be the most annoying and boring animal on earth! I think they are too much hard work and don't give anything back. I don't believe in letting cats roam the street, so if I was to get a cat it would live indoors with an outdoor run... Too much hard work!

Why Dobermann's Struggle At Schutzhund
Podengo replied to jacqui835's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have seen this posted on the very large Doberman forum I am on (with a number of people involved in the sport), can look up the responses from people if anyone is interested. -
The focused puppy book on clean run (My link) has a temperament test which is a bit different to the volhard test. I don't know how much trust I place in the temperament tests, puppy could be having a bad day when you test and be feeling a bit off... I think combining the test with the breeder's knowledge of the litter is the best bet.

The couch to 5 k running programme looks awesome, very appealing to me to have a programme laid out for me... I'm the sort of person who will go "Okay time to get fit" and go out for a 5k run, just about kill myself and give up for another year... But having a programme made of walking and gradually adding running distance should help!
