Do You Refer To Yourself As Your Dog's Mum/dad?
Podengo replied to RubyStar's topic in General Dog Discussion
I say "did your daddy take good care of you?" to Elsie when my partner looks after her and I am out. And partner says "go to mummy" to get her to find me Elsie also goes to stay at "grandma and grandpas" some weekends :) -
New development... humping the tug toy! If she can get some of it between her front paws she tugs and humps haha

Wonder how long until anyone here is going to have access to any of this material? Online course perhaps? I would be so tempted, the curiosity is killing me! -
What's Wrong About Giving Dogs Human Names?
Podengo replied to W Sibs's topic in General Dog Discussion
What IS a dog name? I've seen kids named Fifi and Poppy... I thought those were dog names? All of our dogs had "people" names, Sammy, Roy, Poppy, Libby, Lottie, Elsie. We had a breeder rehome named Cricket, never heard a person named that, but wouldn't be surprised. -
This is me all over, I am like Zoolander... Can't turn left!!

Susan Garrett Running Contacts
Podengo replied to Podengo's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Ahhh that's more understandable! I thought it would be like the recallers course! Can't wait to see if she will put the method out in the next year or so, before my pup is doing contacts! ETA: I did see that survey and filled it out, was expecting that an online course would be out soon, just about fell out of my seat when I saw the 5k price tag being waved around! Hmm wonder if she'll do a DVD... -
I have seen a few things around online mentioning Susan Garrett's upcoming running contacts method, anyone know anything more?? Saw it mentioned on another dog forum, and someone mentioned it on her facebook page but it's not on her blog or anything yet? I hear it is going to cost $5,000! Hope that is a mistake!

I was at Animates (the large chain pet store here) when a guy was working hard to sell a Border Collie x Huntaway to a family that lived in the city with 2 young children and had never owned a dog before. Great, an intelligent tireless working dog bred to herd by using it's very, very loud bark! I can't believe they will sell Sibes in stores, it's insane... Sibes are great, but I think they are the only breed that I see more adults for sale online than puppies, they hit 6 months and people go arghh what have I done!!! Need responsible owners, not the sort of people who will buy a puppy on a whim at the store.

Any kind of cat noises drives my cat wild, and he'll paw at the laptop and go under the table beneath the laptop trying to find the other cat haha -
Good advice everyone, Elsie is going to be left on her own for awhile most days from next month when I start back at uni. She has been left alone for a few hours at a time and coped fine, one time for 6 hours when I had an urgent work thing.
-
Elsie gets up at 7, I give her breakfast and let her out to the toilet and put her back in her crate and she sleeps til 8, while I get ready for the day.

Elsie is sh*t eater today....

Awesome pics up there, also love the corgi, what a gorgeous little dog.

Bullterrier , And Mature Breeder Dog Questions ,
Podengo replied to jase293's topic in General Dog Discussion
I imagine there would be, I suggest going along to shows and seeing what sort of dogs you like (looks and temperament wise) and getting to know breeders that breed those lines better. There is a great book about training breeds which can be a little harder to train than others, written by a woman who shows Bull Terriers in obedience and agility > When Pigs Fly: Training Success with Impossible Dogs. They aren't the most easy to train of all breeds, but neither are Bulldogs or Staffordshire Bull Terriers in most cases. Boys will mark if you let them, so don't let them! We had a retired show dog from a breeder, she was great, came well socialized, house trained, friendly, travelled well in a car, good with other dogs... Everything we could have wanted in a mature dog :) -
That's what I wonder... I've never tugged with a puppy this young, wonder if it's something she will just get over once she is done teething?
-
Having trouble with my 14 week old chewing on the tug, she very rarely gets a good hold and actually tugs. She will get the toy anywhere we go, will grab anything I present her with, and with other dogs around, but she kinda just stands around on chews on it... Hangs on if I move it around, but I want her to do the moving! Will she grow out of this or should I do something to encourage a full bite? What do I do?
-
People do it too :) Pregnancy and Pica
-
I think this may have happened to our mix breed dog, she had been out swimming with the neighbour's G/ret and came home with a limp, sore tail that took a few days to come right... We took her to the vets for X rays and everything!

Elsie is 14 weeks and has been accident free for awhile, door is open at the moment as it's summer so she takes herself out, when it's closed she stands by the door to be let out so we have to be vigilant about that.
