  2. Trying to get sorted in time for this seasons but things aren't working out!! Need a new harness, my custom made one does not fit well, and there is no standard Taiga harness (as recommended by my vet) in Elsie's size so we're going to order a custom made one! Need a new bike... Mine got stolen!! Need to get a new bikejouring attachment welded... As Elsie is very short, I don't like having the attachment up by the handlebars as it reduces her power! I'm looking forward to this season, 2-dog Bikejour has been introduced! I am gonna go faaaast! Hoping to use my dad's Doberman, I have run her with Elsie before and she is great, hoping he will keep her fit for me!
  3. I recently got a back on track coat for Elsie, as she has had a couple of muscle injuries and is often sitting around in the cold at trials and training (we're in NZ). My osteo recommended the coat, and I am finding it great so far, it's lovely and really, really warm! We do heat packs and massage, and I find it great for keeping her warm after her massages and when she is sitting around in the car or after a walk. Elsie has this coat > Elite Cover, she seems to really like wearing it too.
  4. The NZ team heading over for the Aussie agility champs were announced tonight, so got me wondering if any Aussies are thinking of coming to NZDAC this year? NZDAC 2014 Gore
  5. Rain rug without padding If you talk to Back on Track Australia they should be able to order this one for you? (use translate to view the page as it's in Swedish!) Elsie's size coat wasn't in stock in NZ and they don't stock it here (weird size) so they ordered it in from Sweden at no cost, and it arrived in 4 or 5 days I think :) Yeah she is pretty gorgeous, her ears do so many silly things!
  6. Elsie received her new coat tonight from my b/f (he is so good!) From Back on Track, the Elite cover
  7. Hey! I started tracking with my girl Elsie at 12 weeks and she is a little tracking star :) I don't train with a club, just met up some experienced people now and then to make sure I was on the right track, and have attended a couple of seminars. I recommended a book to you in your other thread, which is the one I read, it's good and covers the basics. There are loads of ways to teach tracking though, so have a read around and see what works for you. One thing I found really helpful when starting out was getting on the end of a tracking line with an experienced dog so I could see what my dog should be doing, and it gave me the chance to figure out how to handle a line, how to not interfere with my dog. I help a few newbies out now, and I can totally see the difference between someone who has had a turn tracking with my dog and someone who hasn't done any tracking at all! I don't know about picking a puppy for tracking, I would be looking for a foody dog since I like to start with food. I'm not too familiar with bassets, but one of the more annoying things with my dog is her high prey drive, if she sees a bunny on the track while she is working it is very, very hard to get her back working again. I've had to walk off a few tracks as she has been screaming and lunging on her line, not helpful for work! We're getting through it now, but it has taken a long time.
  8. This was the book I was given when I started tracking, and I found it pretty good :) Try tracking!. It is available as an Ebook too!
  9. I have been a lazy photographer lately, but Elsie was sitting down looking so cute I just had to snap a quick photo of her!
  10. Daisy Peel is coming to NZ soon :) I've signed up for an auditor spot!
  11. I see a lot of mini schnauzers in my area
  12. Finally, I think we've had a break through! Elsie has never been a consistent dog, rarely getting clear rounds (but often winning when she did). We've now moved up a grade, had a few bad runs, but the last two shows have been great, clear rounds, my handling is getting so much better and Elsie is finally, finally nailing weave entries and staying in the weaves! So happy! We have had a whole lot of second places lately, which I am very happy with (we are really not ready to move up a grade!)
  13. I'm in NZ so there are loads of places around that stock it. I don't think you can get it in AUS, it's made by the same people that make Orijen and I don't think they send food to Aussie due to the whole irradiation and killing cats thing with the Orijen food awhile back Orijen.co.nz
  14. When I fed kibble, the two kibbles I fed were 20% and 24% fat. Dogs use fat for energy... I feed K9 Natural frozen as a back up when my raw food runs out, never had a problem with it. Edit to add: Pro Plan Performance Crude Protein (Min) 30.0% Crude Fat (Min) 20.0% Crude Fiber (Max) 3.0% Moisture (Max) 12.0% Acana Sport & Agility Crude Protein (min.) 33% Crude Fat (min.) 24% Crude Fiber (max.) 4% Moisture (max.) 10%
  15. Beautiful! They are one of my favourite breeds to look at :) :)
  16. Elsie is a NZ Heading Dog (basically border collie) crossed with a Jack Russell Terrier
  17. Elsie rolls in all poop, except dog poop! I had to borrow a hose off some builders once to hose human baby poop off her (found a nappy in the bushes). Once she got so excited she pooped herself, in my friends car... This was at lure coursing.... Elsie cocks her leg to pee on stuff, and can pee higher than a lot of boy dogs her size - her technique is great! At least she is cute ;)
  18. Elsie waits til I walk down a main road at rush hour, then does a big grassy poop that gets stuck
  19. I much prefer black in a whole load of dog breeds... Dobes, whippets, iggies, border collies, german shepherds, kelpies, shelties (black & white, not so much tri though but prefer tri to sable). A fit, shiny black dog is such a gorgeous thing to behold! I might be bias though :) :)
  20. I've lost motivation a bit having just gone up a level, we've had some almost clear rounds, but keep stuffing up quite easy bits too... Or messing up weave entries! Bane of my life!
  21. I think a well bred Doberman could suit, provided she chooses the right type of puppy. Some are pretty hard to live with for the first year, while others are very calm from puppyhood. Large enough to deter someone, but not necessarily a guarding breed. They are a large breed, ideally 65-69cm. Affectionate, fairly calm and steady as an adult, not typically hyper breeds. They don't call the doberman a "velcro" dog for nothing! Dobes are extremely affectionate and loyal with their owners, love touching you all the time, not the sort of dog to take themselves away and lay down outside somewhere when they could be laying on the couch next to you. A well trained Dobe with the right sort of temperament could be a calm and steady adult, as I said some are complete live wires but I meet just as many that are gentle, steady dogs. They are very in-tune with their owners. Not wire-coated or otherwise needing lots and lots of complicated grooming work, remembering she is interested in getting into showing. She is ok with needing a little trimming or needing brushing regularly. Doesn't want crazy mad shedding, but can deal with a moderate amount. Grooming??? The breed ring can be very competitive in Dobes though.... Barking for a reason is fine, but not anything yappy for no reason. Our dobes were never barky, but they certainly make a noise when someone is at the gate! Doesn't have to like small animals, but needs to be ok with other dogs in general, she doesn't need the stress of a dog trying to attack another while out walking. Dog issues shouldn't really be a problem with any well socialized, well trained dog. They should be able to walk past other dogs without screaming and trying to attack. Our dobes have always been raised around other animals and have been fine with them, but some Dobes can have pretty high prey drive so I wouldn't trust them with strange cats or anything. She is ok with dogs aloof with strangers, but does have friends and family visiting fairly often, so dog needs to be able to cope with that. The breed is usually aloof with strangers, but very loving once properly introduced to people! Dog needs to be ok with at least one, but more likely 2 leisurely 30min-say an hour ling walks a day. Not interested in having to go running with the dog really. Happy with breeds that have to stay on leash if they must but there are plenty of off-leash areas around too. I think a dobe would be fine with a couple of on or off lead walks a day, provided they are spending a lot more time hanging out with their owner.
  22. Awful isn't it :( I can't believe the children were given those names :/
  23. Freed dog mauled shar pei to death DANTE THE INFERNAL: The 2-year-old red-nose pitbull savaged and killed a shar pei called Terror. A pitbull freed from the Napier dog pound after a community fundraising campaign has mauled a dog to death within days of being liberated. Dante, a 2-year-old red-nose pitbull, was caught by animal control officers late last month and was due to be put down on Monday, March 10. His owner, Teressa Kati, 23, could not afford the $532.30 Napier City Council wanted for unpaid registration fees and desexing fees, so she took to Facebook to see if anyone would pay the fees and make him their own. In a local newspaper article on March 14, she described Dante as "an absolute honey" who loved being cuddled and playing with her two kids, Fury-James, 4, and Lahtezia-Lust, 5. Instead of offering Dante a new home, people donated money - enough for Kati to pay the fees. Dante went to her sister's house in the Napier suburb of Maraenui and was put on a run in the back lawn, where another dog, a 7-month-old shar pei named Terror, was on a chain. Dante got off his run on Thursday night and mauled Terror to death. Terror's owner said his children witnessed the attack, which left the lawn covered in blood. The man said he agreed to look after Dante because Kati already had a dog at her Housing New Zealand house and was not allowed another there. "I was next door. By the time I got there, it was over. "I watched my dog die and he [Dante] still wouldn't let go. He was trying to rip his head off. There was nothing I could do. I watched him have his last breath. To make it worse, my kids saw it all." He said the children were "hysterical". "My backyard is full of blood. My missus doesn't want to go out there. Dante shouldn't have been allowed out of the pound." Animal control officer Dwayne McOnie said he found a "horrific, bloody scene" when called to the property shortly after 5pm. Dante was known to be aggressive, and his owner had been spoken to in the past. He was seized on February 23 because he was not registered, had not been desexed within the required time, and was not microchipped. Terror's body has been seized as evidence, pending a council decision on whether to prosecute Kati. Dante is back in the pound in the meantime.
