  1. Have you tried http://www.k9pro.com.au/categories/Prong-Collars/Herm-Sprenger-Stainless-Steel-Prong-Collars/ ?
  2. Personally I would never use a tennis ball! Some years ago I knew a GSD that chocked to death after jumping and catching a tennis ball! it lodged in his throat so have never used a tennis ball since.
  3. If you want to argue that these laws are frivolous and fruitless Erny then you have to play that ball, not the man (or woman). Consider that your average community member (dog owner or not) will need to be convinced that training a dog to target a person (yes, its the sleeve but a person is wearing it) does not encourage such dogs to attack. Now I have come to this thread late! But wonder how this would be seen under new Vic. Laws! I was playing ball with my dog in our Off Lead Park when I noticed a lass playing TUG with her Standard Poodle. after a short while she tucked the Tug toy into her belt recalled the dog and before she got the lead on the dog the dog decided it wanted to play more Tug and grabbed the the Tug toy out of her belt! After all she was wearing the Tug on her belt so has this lass committed a breach of Vic Laws by teaching her dog to play tug?? This was in NSW. and as an onlooker I found it rather funny at the time. Now having read some of this thread I have started to wonder!
  4. Same here I gave up trying last night as they were charging shipping !!!
  5. Does this apply to Overseas orders or just within The USA??!! Thanks! now I know what MM is giving me for Christmas Even if he don’t know it YET!!!!!
  6. I have used the Sporn on all 3 of my dogs all diffrent sizes the dogs are 1) an Over-sized GSD, 2) a Maremma, and 3) a Swedish Vallhund. All dogs have been adults when I got them and all Pulled like hell. The Sporn fixed the problem in 3-4 weeks now all 3 dogs can be walked on a Martingale or a flat collar with no pulling in fact even the Maremma heels when told to, I normally let them walk comfortably in front on a slack lead when we are just walking. It is important the Sporn is fitted properly and adjusted for the dogs comfort or IMHO you are waisting your time and money if you are not prepared to adjust the Sporn each time you use it.
  7. Rural S.W. NSW! Thanks I have found some and ordered it from Petnetwork.
  8. Thanks Cala, I just could not find it when I looked on petnetwork! I wish they had a search function on their site All is well now thanks again.
  9. Hi, I was wondering if anyone has used “T*H*E Stuff for dogs”? If so where in Aus do you buy it? I have had mine for a couple + years now,. It is great on long coated dogs but I can’t find anywhere in Aus. that sells it any more, (I did not want to order it from the USA) I have bought it here in Aus. back when we had Boarding Kennels ( retired now),But I can’t remember where I used to order it from. Please Help as I am down to my last 1/4 bottle that should last a few months but I will be lost with out it. Thanks for any help you can give.
  10. Thanks for this question! It made me stop and think. As someone that has not trailed since the early 90’s and done very little training until last year when I got my pound puppy, an over sized GSD male that needed lots of training.... After some weeks of very basic training It was very obvious he just loved doing what he was told and getting lots of pats when he was a “Good Boy” so after this dawned on me I went back to my old Club and started in the lower class’s as I needed some reminding of what I was doing wrong. Now we are looking at doing CCD over the next few months. I just took my boy out into the yard and did some Heeling a drop, stand, auto. sit. Then I thought How am I going to do this “in motion” so I started the heeling pattern again in very slow pace and once I wanted a stand I gave the stand signal making sure I was on my left leg when I said Stand and made sure the right leg was the leg that moved after the signal and moved 4 more steps and YES he was still standing there!!!!! so his heel signal is my left leg moving :-) ?? the same thing happened with the Down But I am going to have to make very sure I know what leg I am on when I give a signal! The next thing is How am I going to do the same thing for the sit as his auto. sit is when my left leg stops next to my right......... Now I am going to have to train myself before I can expect him to stay after an auto.sit... more food for thought on what I am doing.
  11. Wouldn't that confused them as to where they are in the pack? Well not if the dog KNOWS the difference between “HEEL” or “With ME” and (in my case) Off you go! meaning they are free to do as they like as long as they DON’T Pull or cross over in front or behind me, I walk 2 dogs one on each side GSD always on my left and Maremma on the right so they both Know their own words, Heel GSD and With Me for the Maremma so each dog knows when it has broken the rules and then has to be at my side until I decide it is OK for it go back to being controlled BUT free-ish when on lead. Did any of that make sense? I hope so
  12. Yep I know what you mean And agree whole heartedly.
  13. Yes Luke I can see where you are coming from. I just wish some parents put as much time and effort into teaching their Kids how to behave as most of us do our dogs. I suppose there are good and bad among all of us and the good ones get put upon because of the bad ones and as you said it is a very difficult subject. Glad your sister got things sorted in the end, it must have been a very hard time for her. I know if it had been one of my Grand-Kids they would have wanted to know why the doggy didn’t give them a kiss  assuming they had first asked if it was OK to approach the dog. Some what! This takes me to something I heard on the radio last week about the 4 rights of kids, Food, Love, Education, Safety! Now I do believe the word discipline should be in there some where! I think far to many parents are trying so hard to be their kids Best Friend and forgetting they are Parents, But I could be very wrong.
  14. Personally I disagree with this statement! The problem is people having UNTRAINED & Uncontrollable Dogs of any size on or off lead and expecting other people to put up with their badly behaved dogs, JUST because they are big dogs does not mean you have to be big to control him/her, Just train the dog properly BEFORE you inflict it on other people IMOH. I do sympathize with the O.P. and would suggest that maybe a walk at the usual time But without your dog and try to find out where the off lead dog/dogs lives and/or take photos and send them to the council complaining that this is a regular occurrence in this street or this dog is always roaming outside of my house. I have always found that when I have sent photos of the dog to our council and named the street or the house # that I believe it comes from slowly but surely the problem has diminished! But then I do not live in the O.P.’s Shire and our Shire is very happy to act on photographic evidence if they can find the owner. As we live in a rural Township it is not always possible to get the Ranger out in time to catch the offending dog, since one of my dogs were attacked by a dog at the off-lead park (with no owner in sight) I always have my camera in my pocket and ready to go if needed, also surprising how many folk soon find a plastic bag to clean up after the dog they are trying to ignore when it is doing its doo-doo when you just pull the a camera out of the pocket as you walk past on the other side of the road I have been known to offer a spare bag to someone that obviously hasn’t got one, it has always been accepted with a “thank you”, But my husband always tells me he worries about me doing this.. but I can’t help myself, if you want to change peoples attitudes they have to be first encouraged and helped then maybe we can all live in harmony with our dogs and other owners.
  15. If you do go with the citronella collar make sure she is not allergic to Citronella first. I have a mate that tried one on her dog and his face puffed up.
  16. Possible! But I wonder IF some zealot thought it was a Bark Collar and confiscated it? This happened to a nephew of ours last year when he was living in Brisbane, he used a bark collar as his dog would bark for the first half hour after he left for work. After the first week the collar disappeared! It was returned 6 weeks later with a note telling him it was a Cruel Electronic Collar and he should not use it. The note was not signed and the battery had been removed! edited spelling
  17. NO! But would love to know where in Oz one can get one?
  18. So Sorry you lost your best mate. I know how you feel but remember you gave her 8 more wonderful years that maybe she would not have had. You loved her as she loved you and that bond will always be there in your heart as LOVE never dies it lives on in your heart. Now I wonder could you love another pound puppy? If so would it not be a good way to remember her? No nothing can or should ever replace her but with so much love maybe in time you could share it with another who’s days are numbered, I am sure she would thank you for helping out another in the same position she was in 8 years ago. My thoughts are with you in these sad moments.
  19. Thanks Wylie, But I still don’t understand how it will help to stop a dog Barking, this is how it was introduced to me on another list!
  20. Anyone know much about this? What can you tell me about your experiences with it? Is it worth trying on barking dogs ??????
  21. Thank you both for the info. So I just need to train in the same way as I have always done and I can enter in Novice 3 passes for CD title and then Open 3 passes C.D.X. title? Well that sounds great I just had a thought that things had changed a bit over the years.
  22. Do Associate registered dogs compete in separate classes and for separate titles in all or any states? I have never owned an Associate Registered dog before and have been away from Obedience Trials and training for over 12 years, So any links to or info. on how things have changed would be appreciated
  23. Just read this thread. Great results BellasPerson & Meriment . The e collar seems to be the way to go but unfortunately I have just been informed that The E Collar is illegal to use in NSW so wonder how some of the NSW contributers to this thread manage to use one? Would love to see an up date on your progress.
