yes that doesn't sit well at all I agree totally with that. A very wise old dog breeder said to me once when I asked if he ever got sick of looking after puppies, 'yes sometimes I do, but they did not ask to be born, I made that decision and therefore I will always do my best by them. I try to remember that whenever I am tired or wet or late from work, it is not their fault and I must do the best I can for them. After all I can eat toast all week if I had too, they cannot. And the buying of the above goodies is a complete disgrace and that person would no longer be my friend. As who wants a friend so selfish and lacking in ethics? OMG must get off my soap box!!!!!!!!!

Hmmmmmm I drink beer and smoke cigarettes and the occassional lunch with friends but my dogs never pay for my social habits. Please don't let this turn into the bone thread! What is a 'bone thread'?

HELLDOG is only like this because you are sick. You are less inclined to spend time with him and he is not really as naughty as you think, as you are sick everything seems worse! Is he missing his walks? Mine do the same. More barking more fighting more jumping all over me.

Aust. Stumpy Tail Cattle Dogs are born without a tail. You are able to DNA test a dog for the relevant gene. I have heard where Stumpy pups are born without the anus, and sometimes withered away from the waist back. I would not call the dog above a natural bob tail, I would call it deformed and should have been PTS at birth. I know of Aussie Shepherd breeders who dock the pups tail and tell people that it is natural. For me the quickest way to determine if it is natural is there will be a tuft of hair growing on the tip. I have heard about some other breeds with the bob tail gene, such as Corgis. If it is recessive it would be hard to continue the line?

I'm confused, which breed are you talking about? They sound great whatever they are Ooops, sorry, my bad. English Cocker Spaniels. Black ones to be exact. Too much coat and grooming for a busy family?

I have people ask how much my dogs cost to feed. I reply 'not as much as shopping and lunching with the girls on the weekend, not as much as you spend on beer and cigarettes, and certainly not as much as you spend on your children'. I tell my Husband, 'it is better than me having spare time and a boyfriend'. People just do not get it, and I don't care that they don't!

I always treat the above TV shows as comedy's. What else could they be? But I do know people who believe everything on them, and are convinced every tradesman is ripping off the poor old pensioner. And every dog breeder is doing bad things.

ACD and Beagle? remember the breed features of each. The Beagle can wander for days if it get out of the yard. The nose goes down and does not come up until the scent has finished, then the Beagle wonders where it is. The ACD is bred to round up other animals. the pair together may not be great if given the chance to escape the yard. In saying that the Beagle is completely non aggressive and the ACD will love a friend. Both are robust and easy to care for.

Further proof that people are morons, and another reason I stopped breeding. Of course the pup is at fault for being a sook, nothing to do with the people that own it. I could never work at a vet surgery, would want to slap people for stupidity.

I overhead at the vet yesterday someone talking about the Wobbles, and the dogs being known as Wobblers. Can anyone advise what this means? I think it was in relation to a Dobermann, if that means anything.

Sadly, quite a few pedigree dog breeders would respond in a manner that plays right into his hands. If anyone responds, it should be the ANKC. They should speak for all. Yes, PF I can hear the reels being wound in as I type! Hope fully the lines will snap. yes I remember a new breeder many years ago that allowed Don Jerk to film her dogs. The breed is one that he is known to be very against, and the breed can be snappy. She tied several dogs up to a fence for the camera to pan over. The bitch on the end had a young litter which she was still feeding. Of course the dogs made a lot of noise at the camera and the film crew and the bitch went over the top aggressive. I would not have expected any different from the bitch. But the stupid breeder fell right into his hands. He still to this day demeans the breed. Best not to respond on an individual level to him. And I have no real problem with a person wanting a cross bred dog, what I object to is the hugely inflated prices these people pay, and I really object to them saying a cross bred is better.

very true

why? they are a recognised breed unless your dog is a kelpie x? The vet automatically puts coolie x on vet cards the Vet may be used to seeing a different type of Kelpie, not the beautiful pedigree ones!
-
I spoke to someone who has a Shih Tzu Maltese cross and she is waiting for the pedigree papers to arrive. Is that an Aussie breed?
-
lol - i actually wondered if I should have typed "Australian" in front of them or if they are known just as kelpies. Now I know another awesome dog - hey they were developed from coolie stock so of course they are jrts - are definitely english. Every second english household seems to have one - I think from memory that my aunt's sister had some of the first ones in the 1970s, they were pretty rare back then anyway. I could be wrong though. They seem to have gained popularity very quickly. Its OK I was told at an OB club that I joined recently that 'no one' used Australian, and that the breed name was just the Kelpie. I asked them politely to include the "Aust." on my membership card :D And the vet put on my card 'Kelpie x'!

I remember something about the Border Collie people having to decided whether the breed was Aussie or Scottish? So you might be correct.

and the Kangaroo Dog, developed to chase down the Kangaroos. I think a cross between a Irish Wolfhound and a Greyhound?
-
I can't believe I forgot about the stumpy tail - I fostered one last year for ACD Rescue - he was the most devine dog, so energetic but with the sweetest nature Australian Bulldog - I completely forgot about the Australian Bulldog minature fox terriers are they the same as Tenterfield terriers or a different breed Is the mini foxie a real breed?
-
I thought the Coolie was in fact the German Coolie and imported here.
