  1. Cringe worthy new statement below. The autopsy did NOT say that Wags was killed by a small dog, the autopsy did not refer to the size of the dog at all. Pretty powerful small dog to do the damage it did....its sadly laughable! So what do you think about the suggest BSL?! Statement from Farmer Dave Dog Centre 22 June 2015 All of us here at Farmer Dave Dog Centre remain saddened and distressed by the death of Wags while in our care earlier this month. Our Centre exists for the wellbeing of dogs, and for one to pass while staying at the Centre is a massive blow to us. The death of Wags was a tragic accident, and we are sincerely sorry for the loss of this beloved dog while in our care. Our thoughts and condolences are with Wags' owner and family at this sad time and we are in direct contact with them. We have provided to the family a copy of the full report of what happened to Wags on his last day, which has also been provided to the RSPCA and the Hills Shire Council. In summary, while we thought Wags, a 9 year old deaf dog, was asleep for 10 minutes in the rest yard with four other dogs after active play, a subsequent autopsy indicated Wags died after a single bite and shake by a small dog, similar in size to Wags. As a result of this tragic incident, we are currently reviewing what dog breeds we will allow into our free range facility. To assist in this review, we have sought expert advice from the senior behaviourist at the Animal Welfare League NSW, a Veterinary Behaviourist as well as from several respected veterinarians. We welcome and are co-operating fully with investigations being conducted by the RSPCA and Hills Shire and will take on board any recommendations they make for improving our systems and processes. We want to thank our loyal customers and volunteers for your support as we work though this difficult time. We have cared for around 3,000 dogs since opening our doors for Boarding, Training and Daycare and every dog is special to us.
  2. They probably put the crates into the runs. I wouldn't want my dog in this sort of boarding situation but they are hardly hiding what they do. They don't have runs, they are a free range facility. They aren't totally free range. They do have fenced areas which I believe could be called a run, seeing as there is no set size for a run. Oh right, sure. I'm pretty sure crates in a fenced area still doesn't meet code or owner expectation.

  4. I wonder how 'Open' crates go when they're on the 2nd tier...

  6. Before the crates were moved to their current location they didn't even have a roof as cover.
  7. I an not personally sure. But I have been to that facility a number of times & dont recall seeing kennekekennels or runs. There certainly is at front of property but they belong to box hill lodge, i believe. I've asked them, that will settle it, if I get an answer. Good luck getting something half truthful, doesn't seem to be something they excel at lately but will be interesting to hear their public response to where free range dogs sleep.
  8. Yep, from what I understand from a number of different sources who have been there the crates are used for overnight sleeping and there is also a shed type (that is a more recent addition if it exists) area for communal sleeping.
  9. Question: you board your dog whilst you go on holiday at a free range facility - where does your dog sleep? How happy would you be to discover those crates in the background of this photo is where your dog will sleep...all weather conditions... I understand there is also a shed type building? Not kennels but just a large enclosure many dogs can all bunk in together in?
  10. The Wags page has been reinstated. What I do find interesting though is since this all has gone down FD has really been over compensating on photos on his page i.e. 50+ photos from just 1 day - instead of trying to distract why don't they just step up and deal with it appropriately rather than be dishonest with multiple variations of stories?
  11. I probably wouldn't recommend putting anything int he microwave that you want to be healthy. I just boil it all on a big pot and just pull the skin off by hand.
  12. Really? A product whose first ingredient is Whole Sorghum isn't one I would be feeding to any dog.
  13. Your Vet is likely to recommend whatever they have in the clinic that is probably expensive and full of fillers.
  14. For a dog that is likely to be very large I would feed it as per a Giant Breed puppy with the correct phos:calc ratios, commercial diets that would fit would be: Holistic Select Large Breed Puppy Canidae Large Breed Puppy Canidae All Life Stages Wellness Large Breed Puppy Black Hawk Fish & Potato - this is an adult kibble so you will need to at least double what the feed guide says and then increase/decrease going forward depending on what your puppy looks like. There is Dane / Dane x Australian Training & Health group here: https://www.facebook...raining.health/ We generally do not suggest you feed a giant breed (or potential to be) a raw diet unless you are experienced at doing so as you will need to know how to manage potential growth issues such as knuckling over, HOD etc. What you are feeding your adult isn't suitable so I think you'll need to spend some more time researching raw diets.
  15. We just finished their beginners class and it was great!
  16. I know of a one on one Sydney trainer duo if you're interested, shoot me a message. I've used them myself and was very happy. They are well known and respected handlers.
  17. Google 'Toe Grips'. In the past we have tried many things without success from sprays to socks to boots. Rugs with no slip backings are going to be the safest bet.
  18. Of course he did. The whole think is cringe worthy for him, he has zero credibility left.
  19. Ok, so we're on day 5 of pumpkin skin, no change at this time, anyone else trying?
  20. My experience with socks is that they do come off and get twisted out of position. Perhaps consider toe grips instead? http://www.toegrips.com/
  21. I really don't get it....photo from today...small dogs in with large ones again and more than 5 dogs which they have previously claimed is all they have together... Why are people allowing their dogs to be put in these situations?
  22. Yep, wheat and chicken are common causes of allergies in a lot of dogs. Wheat, especially when sourced cheaply, can also contain mites that are often the real source of allergy. I just said this on another post, but I always find Canidae foods work well for dogs with allergies and skin issues. I feel like a Canidae rep today. Me too. Big fan here of Canidae All Life Stages and recommend it a fair bit (I have no relationship with any food company).
