Actually, just a myth. But yes you should have a blood test to know if your dog has HW.

The only BH kibble suitable for large fast growing dogs is the Fish & Potato. Did your Breeder recommend you use BH?

Why Doesn't The Ankc (like Most Clubs) Keep Death Stats
sas replied to sandgrubber's topic in General Dog Discussion
Because that would reply on the owners providing the information. My dog died in November and I'm yet to send notification to the Council to advise them of this. -
hahahahahahahahahahahaha that is the most stupid thing I've heard.

Some people may feel your Vet is someone they trust nor feel comfortable with and would prefer their own Vet. This is the reason why everything should be spelled out in writing before the puppy goes home. To the Poster: Don't take the puppy back (not that you can force them into it), that is a bitch of a thing to do and what are you going to do with it? Euth it? It's not a toaster. Just give them back the purchase price, that is the right thing to do - after-all you are the one who sold them a defective dog.

The Right Thing When It Might Be The Wrong Dog
sas replied to emigremlin's topic in General Dog Discussion
Pretty normal behaviour you'll most likely going to get with any dog you take on at least initially. Your dog is most likely used to being with company and so understandable is upset when left alone. Seperation training here: http://www.greatdanerescue.com.au/Docs/separation_anxiety_seperation_training.pdf Usually giving the dog access to the house will stop many noise problems. If you don't feel you can work with the dog in the time frame your neighbour/council have given you then it's a good idea to buzz your breeder. -
Plenty of dogs don't react well to Oatmeal which is in Aloveen, We use Equis Micro Tek Shampoo for our itchy ones or just as a normal good shampoo. http://www.eqyssaustralia.com.au/products/EQyss-Micro%252dtek-Shampoo-.html

Doesn't America have a national database where you can just look up any dog....that would be nice.

GMO Corn isn't something I'd want to feed but some people don't mind, I guess it's up to you if you're ok with it. I won't feed any corn personally but diet is all a personal choice isn't it. If you're not sure what GMO corn is and what its effects are, have a look around online and see if it's something you're ok with. It was an interesting task contacting Kibble Support lines to ask if they used GMO Corn, most were taken back and didn't know how to respond and some tried responding without answering the question. If you want to know if your Kibble has GMO corn has the question and don't back down.

So Why Are Breeders Reluctant To Advertise Where There Is A Demand For
sas replied to SwaY's topic in General Dog Discussion
It's not just breeder frowned upon, Rescuers were also once frowned upon for listing their dogs in such places - to frown upon it would be saying that you don't have the basic skills to weed out unsuitable folk. -
Thought that was the case. Is it ... a) no different to grains b) better than grains c) worse than grains That's not correct. A lot of the corn in kibble these days is GMO and confirmed with a number of kibble co's when I did the last lot of research for our Dane feed guide.

Yep, our 15 kilo Lab x bikes. We built him up to 5k's. He could go longer though but he's carrying a little extra weight so we want to keep it reasonable. The more you bike them the fitter they get...a curse lol Half gaiting and half full speed which he loves. Just got him a harness which I think is safer than a collar if something sudden were to happen. Our Dane is 6 months old and he walks beside the bike and goes around the park once in a gait so he can get used to it so when he's old enough he can start biking too.

Reward the behaviour you want before the negative behaviour starts.
-
Vets All Natural have a Roo <4% Fat BARF. The amount of food has to decrease. My 16 kilo Lab x has 60 grams of raw a day and I still need to decrease it and he gets exercise twice a day - you just have to keep adjusting as needed.

Training Collar Types - Can Someone Give Me A Name?
sas replied to Rappie's topic in General Dog Discussion
I haven't seen one with studs...could the owner have made it? This one has been out for many years. Or could have been just seeing a cover for a prong? -
If your dog is a fast growing dog and large then phos:calc ration is relevant - head here www.greatdanerescue.com.au.downloads.htm and download the free owners guide as there is a comprehensive diet section in there.

Have you played the 'Gotcha Game'? The 'GOTCHA'game is great for dogs who don't feel comfortable beinghandled. In 1-2 weeks if you practice it daily you should have a dog that enjoys being handled. You can see a video with the basic concept here: http://youtu.be/6jaxuTuH2ow Once you watch the above, head to the below video which shows a 6 month oldGreat Dane who has been through the basic principals of this technique. This video shows handling including what many would call inappropriate handling- this was to teach her to not be worried about when judges or other people don't handle her appropriately and also covering bases of how children can inappropriately approach and handle dogs - + Great Danes being a bit of a novelty can attract inappropriate handling from the general public.

Leila didn't start that until she was about 12 so I think a vet check up would be a good idea.
-
In regarding the original question - No, I don't think it's a good idea for the dog, I think rehoming should be a clean break.
-
That's not unusual - lamb has that effect in lot's of dogs.

Here's the program we use, 100% success rate on our rescues. It is labour intensive so people shouldn't start it unless they will be dedicated to achieve the end result. http://www.greatdanerescue.com.au/Docs/separation_anxiety_seperation_training.pdf
