I think all breeders have a moral obligation to take back dogs they have bred, if they cannot i.e. space, funds, they need to be highly involved in helping that dog get a new home. We deal so often with breeders who won't take their dogs back, it's really saddening More than happy to go above and beyond for a breeder who can't take the dog but wants to help.

I found one, thanks everyone :)

I'm using it on one of my dogs, my 3 y/o lab x and will test fecal and blood every 6 months to see how it goes, he's a dog that doesn't get normal preventative medication due to reactions to it. It works out cheaper than traditional treatments for the dog I'm using it on, it's more the initial outlay which is hard on the pocket in our case.

Dogs VIC actually have a program, Dogs NSW don't, it has to be through a Delta Assessor.

Depends what kibble. If it's Giant breed kibble for puppies then yes I would feed it to a giant breed puppy. It's all about phos:calc ratios, so if an all breeds puppy kibble had suitable ratios yes I'd feed that > I don't think you'll find an all breeds puppy ones though that does.

Gillbear, she has replied and said she is not a Delta Assessor.

Thanks heaps!

Thin Danes One With Severe Arthritis
sas replied to HappyCamper's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I don't have any advice other than what you have been givem I'm afraid, if a xray shows such bad arthritis at such an early age it doesn't bode well for the Danes future, terribly sad. -
Hi! I'm not a mastiff person but a Dane person so I can give you a diet pack that has a wide range of kibbles from budget through to premium you can look at: http://www.greatdane...iet_section.pdf However, your first stop should be to your Breeder and if that's not possible your Breed community, if you select Breed Sub Forums from the General Forum you should find the Mastiff thread :) I'm presuming not any old food is ok like Danes i.e. pups need a specific phos:calc ratio.

Yep as per the above :)

Hey Guys, I have never been successful in finding someone to do the Delta CGC test without around 16 weeks of in class training before, does anyone know of a Delta Trainer that will simply administer the assessment or do less than say 16 weeks of training prior to it? I have found 2 trainers in Sydney who will do it but again, around 16 weeks of in class training before hand.

Hi Everyone, Please be aware that Great Dane Rescue NSW is closing. No surrenders will be able to be taken. We will forward surrender inquiries to BDR and AWL (GDRR NSW deal mostly with surrenders). When there are Danes in pounds we do get a million messages from all the Dane lovers out there so thank you very much, luckily all Danes have been adopted from the pounds that I can recall. www.greatdanerescue.com.au and the Facebook page https://www.facebook...roups/gdrraust/ are national listing sites and will not close. Great Dane Rescue's in other states run independently and will not change either. Thank you for the support of Rescues and Dane Lovers over the years, unfortunately like most rescues time is always a factor and with mostly full time workers trying to run the organisation it's become near impossible to run it. We're positive other like minded people will come along in the future to try their hand at it.

There is absolutely no scientific doubt that we inherit some behavioural traits > All breeds have behavioural characteristics. From being involved in Rescue circles I can tell you with much confidence that I know of particular lines of dogs that have similar negative behavioural traits i.e. nervy temps that can result in fear aggression even in behavioural savvy homes where people do everything they can for them. Have seen litters with more than half of them exhibiting serious nervious behaviours outside fear periods in great homes. Can nuture contribute, of course. I'm not sure why there is even a Nature vs Nuture debate.

I'd like to think I can offer a trained opinion, and I have successfully treated hundreds of atopic dogs using raw diet and other supplements. Unfortunately, my experience with sending patients to the specialist dermatolgists is that they come back on cortisone more often than not. I do totally agree that you need one on one, hands on, advice !! Didn't know you were a Dermatologist? I've used your product with my own dog and rescues...they didn't get better, in fact some got worse. I find your comment interesting though because most Dermatologists that have seen dogs I know of have suggested elimination diets and testing...not cortisone. Although cortisone = quality of life alot of the time. Sounds like your opinion is based on commercial profit of your product more than anything else like a Vet pointing at the brand of dog food they have in their clinic? Could be wrong there of course!

A Dermatologist for testing.

Urgent Help For Great Dane At Renbury Farm

If you had your rescue group's name on him, sas, why wasn't that on the Renbury website, I wonder. No idea, you'd have to ask Renbury. -

Are you even allowed to post on gumtree/pet rescue dogs for sale you dont yet own? They make it seem like it's the shelter themselves, I have nothing positive to say about these people who play on peoples emotions to get dogs adopted potentially into very unsuitable homes. -
I personaly don't like any rescue dog in a kennel environment unless it is there for a purpose i.e. emergency boarding, short term boarding i.e. 1-2 weeks whilst waiting for a carer/transport, with a Behaviourist etc. Dogs need to be in foster homes becoming the best dogs they can possibly be to find the best possible homes. Warehousing dogs is not only irresponsible, it's expensive and it does no one anything positive...the dog or the new owner. A rescue dog in a kennel environment = a dog you don't know the inns and outs of, you don't how it will react in different environments and situations and imo should not be rehomed from that situation. I am aware of a Dane x that has been in a kennel with another rescue group for about 4 years now, he has a temperament that needs behavioural modification or euthanasia, I offered the rescue group to pay for his stay with our behaviourist, they didn't get back to me - in this case I believe this is pure neglect. I see alot in rescue dogs living in boarding permantly long term i.e. months and months and months until a home is found or even in disgusting environments because for some reason people think this is better than death....I disagree in many situations. The term rescue dog shouldn't allow a dog to be treated any less that your own dog. I get rescue shelters dealing with large amounts of dogs, there aren't many options there, that's not whom I'm talking about, I'm talking about small-medium rescue groups.

Urgent Help For Great Dane At Renbury Farm
sas replied to tobie's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
We had been in contact with the pound. What I find incredibly frustrating is Gumtree posts I presume are being made by groups like Pound Rounds that say things like GOING TO DIE / BE KILLED on (insert date) - this dog was never at risk of being euthanised, we had let the pound know we would take him if not adopted. All this does is create an emotional response from people - I fear because of this, this dog has been adopted by someone emotionaly charged rather than going with logic. This dog looked like it has Entropian and a Skin condition and on-top of that may not have been socialised > not the kind of dog you adopt on an emotional charge, especially not a giant dog. If you see a Purebred in a pound please contact their relevant rescue to let them know, in most cases we will move heaven and earth to help. -
Does Anyone Know What Rescue Amy Gurney Runs?
sas replied to HappyCamper's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I doubt she knows how to raise it properly, giant breeds aren't easy to grow and given it was a 'rescue' and she's not accepting the $1,000 I offered her makes me think she see's future profit in the dog. Harle pups can sell for $3,500 registered and $2,500 BYB.
