  1. Hi, You need to return the dog and if the breeder will not return your money then you need to contact the equiv. of Fair Trading in your State. You did not know the dog was of this temperament and therefore this dog is not fulfilling the purpose it was intended for i.e. a companion pet. Without seeing the dog myself but having seen many a dog like this it sounds as if the dog is unsocialised, perhaps never leaving the breeders property and therefore the outside world is a scary place and the dog is a fear biter. In regards to euthing the dog, No, I don't see how you could feel comfortable euthing a dog when from what I understand it's not in your name i.e. microchip and secondly a Behaviourist should see a dog before its given a death sentence and that should happen this week...if you have the time and skills to work the dog through this. I wouldn't be euthing the dog if it were me, I would be returning the dog and contacting Fair Trading to get my money back but either way it wouldn't be my place nor responsibility to euth this dog, it would be the owners who rehomed an unsocialised, unsuitable giant breed to a member of the public. It's unlikely a Dane Rescue will take the dog because it has already displayed behaviours that could deem it dangerous. Pls, drive the 3 hours and take the dog back to the owners.
  2. Well Artificial flavour isn't awesome. Each person will have what they like and don't like in a food :)
  3. Because my dog is tested sensitive to chicken and pork on the Nutriscan test.
  4. Includes Chicken Fat and Pork Meal Natural Fish Flavor = Artificial.
  5. Plain and simple his owners are irresponsible. The dog has a menacing dog order on it from 2013 for something they haven't clarified (or I haven't seen it clarified yet), the dog then has proceeded to aggressively rush at an owner and their dog but their response to that was it was just saying Hi.....right....so we're lead to believe someone approached the council because a dog was just saying Hi. The dog was probably off leash even though its not allowed to me. The dog can't be an escape artist because under the menacing dog order it has to be kept in a child proof cage....which they clearly have not done.
  6. I guess it is dependent on the type of dog > what you can physically manage.
  7. J Lawrence - I don't think the statement in the ingredient panel of 'Meat & Meal' looks positive. We are generally educated that where it says 'Meat' and does not specify which type that this is low grade meat by-products. Why is it do you know that they have opted to state it like this rather that say Fish Meal, Lamb? Forgive me if I'm mis-understanding it.
  8. I brought a kilo of them and one dog loved them, the other dog was sus about them but ended up accepting them but not loving them and he loves food.
  9. I'm not sure how they look like strait jackets and I doubt the recommendation nor common sense would have them on unsupervised.
  10. And what are they going to do when people don't pay their fines?
  11. Please do not feed your giant breed puppy a raw diet unless you are very experienced in raw feeding and are able to guarantee the phos:calc ratios. If you do not like Science Diet then speak to your breeder about other options such as Canidae All Life Stages which is one of the best around in terms of ingredients and has the correct phos:calc ratios for a giant breed puppy. We only get one opportunity to grow them right.
  12. Must be something on your end, working fine. The link I gave was for a PDF, perhaps you don't have a PDF reader. You can go here and locate the Bloat chart from the downloads page: http://www.greatdanerescue.com.au/downloads.htm
  13. Heartbreaking, my heart goes out to the family and friends of the driver.
  14. Apparently rescue transporter, anyone that we know?! http://www.theguardian.com.au/story/2465401/fatal-crash-at-lake-boga/?cs=1522

  16. Thanks guys, haven't heard back from owner so may not need it after all but thank you for your prompt responses :)
  17. Looking for someone local for this one, reasons I can't get into.
  18. Yep you should definately call them with questions about their food.
  19. Bitch may be pregnant.....would be a purebred Great Dane litter, looking for experienced rescue who has whelped many litters before who will without doubt euthanise defective puppies which there is likely to be in this litter due to the colour of parents. I know there is a lady here who does Mums and Bubs and also has a Dane x, I just can't remember her name.
  20. We recently did kibble comparisons and the Kirklands was up there in the top 10 and in terms of the best Budget kibble it's #1. it's not Taste of the Wild re-branded . It's a brilliant price for the ingredients but from what I have heard some Costco's have availability problems. Apart from Costco, I believe this is the only other place you can get it: http://qld.fairdinks.com.au/natures-domain-salmon-meal-dog-food-15-87-kg/ Natures Domain (Salmon) 15.87 kilos = Approx $55.00 Salmon meal Sweet potatoes Peas Potatoes Taste of the Wild Salmon 13.6 Kilos = Approx $100.00 Salmon Ocean Fish meal Sweet Potatoes Potatoes The TOTW has better ingredients as meat is also in their 2nd place.
  21. There's a couple of Great Danes on this group that have had it, one recovered well and one lost the use of a leg: https://www.facebook.com/groups/120723964605582/?fref=nf
  22. I think when we don't understand why a dog eats something we often come up with the old it's mission something in its diet. In reality, we don't know, we can't know because we can't ask them why they're doing it. I know of a number of dogs that do it. You could try a multi-canine vitamin supplement if you think it's that although if it's not doing your dog any harm and your dog is wormed regularly and generally healthy it may not be something to give a second thought to.
  23. I wonder if the spotting is similar to the patches of a Harlequin Great Dane. Our babies aren't born white though and then develop patches, they have them from day dot but they do develop more and get bigger. Harlequins do not breed true, so you could breed heavy marked to heavy marked (as long as they were genetically Harles not cryptic Merles) and get a well marked Harle. In terms of the show ring, I know nothing about Dallies but you do see a range of them in the show ring here in Sydney from very lightly marked with big windows to very heavily marked and I've seen both do well.
