Large - Giant Breed Puppy Kibble

The shame about Royal Canin is that you're not getting value for money, it's so full of fillers and low quality ingredients. You're really just buying the brand name. -
Large - Giant Breed Puppy Kibble
sas replied to TheCheekyMonster's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
The link I provided you answers your questions about other kibbles. My top picks for giant breed puppies in terms of high quality ingredients with suitable phos:calc ratios are: Canidae All Life Stages > Con = maybe too rich for some Dane pups with sensitive tummies. Holistic Select Large & Giant Breed puppy Black Hawk Fish & Potato > However a number of owners are commenting that this does not keep condition on the dogs so they have to feed more. What we don't need on the market is more low quality kibbles pretending to be something they're not. -
Can anyone recommend a Behaviourist on the Central Coast?

Hi, I do. It does not affect growth, it's the phos:calc ratio that does. You can find this information in the 'Protein Myth' section of our feed guide from Page 141: http://www.greatdane...reat%20Dane.pdf In brief: Source: Department of Clinical Sciences of Companion Animals, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Utrecht, The Netherlands, 1999, Growth and skeletal development in Great Dane pups fed different levels of protein intake. Nap RC, Hazewinkel HA, Voorhout G, Van den Brom WE, Goedegebuure SA, Van 'T Klooster AT. No differences were found among the high (H-Pr), normal (N-Pr) and low protein (L-Pr) groups for the height at the shoulder. The differences in protein intake per se had no demonstrable consequences for calcium metabolism and skeletal development. -
You need to contact the state controlling body the breeder who lied is a member of.

Yes, have had 2 entire male Great Danes live inside. No, I never had problems toilet training them, usually done by 11 weeks. Your toilet training is done before they are sexually mature so they have no reason to mark in the house as babies. Neither of them ever marked inside the house. 1 would toilet appropriately only in the yard. The other one lifts his leg on stuff I wish he wouldn't such as chair legs (outside), the BBQ etc.

LOL I'm not running clinical trials here. People wanted me to posts the results and I have, you can make of them as you wish, I'm not saying anything else i.e. HERE'S PROOF other than here's the results.

Wouldn't know for sure i.e. not tested beforehand. Nothing obvious.

Hi Guys, A while ago there was a discussion on FAITH the natural worming product. I mentioned in that thread that I would be having my dogs tested every 6 months to see how they were going. I've just had 1 of my dogs tested that was at the Vet for other things, I did a Heartworm test and also a very comprehensive poo test that tests for everything and anything. Heartworm = Negative Parasites, bugs, any things you don't want in poos was negative apart from Gardia which doesn't seem symptomatic.

Remedies - Have You Tried Any And Had Results?

Tranquil Paste is not a bach flower remedy. It is a Vit B complex formula so you can't really compare them to one another. -
The ingredients aren't actually that good, clever wording.

Remedies - Have You Tried Any And Had Results?

Essential Oils are different from Flower Essences. Essential oils must be highly diluted in a carrier oil before being offered to a dog to smell or placed on them otherwise you will find a highly offended canine. *** General comment, not to you specifically... I find most of the time people mis-use oils or don't understand how to use them or for some reason expect them to work better than a medication. It's all about what you want to achieve, what's appropriate to use, a time frame and your expectations. I so often find people turning to alternative remedies rather than implementing behavioural modification programs. Medications for behaviour are just the same as alternative remedies in the terms that they are best used in conjunction with a behavioural modification program (not instead of). It's similar to people slightly changing their diet and not exercising and wondering why they didn't loose the weight they wanted to....things so often go hand in hand. -

Not quite, a really interesting article came out recently about the placebo effect occurring because of the human reporting improved results on canine arthritis meds when they were on placebo - very interesting article and a completely different style of Placebo to learn more about. I'm all for whatever works but I'm just offering a qualified response if people want to learn more from a completely neutral position. -

What most people don't understand about Flower Remedies is that they should be formulated for the individual and used 4 times a day for a period of 28 days. Also, most people do not understand how flower remedies are formulated based on vibration healing rather than a large active flower formula, I think many people buy RR thinking that 5 flowers have been harvested and mixed up to create the remedy when it's done in a very different manner which most people would find odd, confusing, snake oil like. RR is only 1 formulation and is used for mild stressful situations. I did a number of tests with dogs from this forum when I was studying different alternative therapies and although my mind is scientific I committed myself to trialing with a large group and all participants reported improvements and some complete behavioural successes. I am interested in doing a placebo trial where the owner does not know if they have a remedy or a placebo to compare results however at this stage I had to admit defeat of my scientific mind and accept that at any time in the history of man that some things were not understood at the time and were later explained. The remedies are not expensive, so regardless of understanding how they could work in scientific way if they brought success to people then that's not a bad thing. Flower Remedies are not homeopathic contrary to what some online sources may suggest. English Ivy, Bach Flower remedies are effective in Australia, I'm not sure why you would think they are not? Available in Australia are also Australian Bush Flower Remedies, every country has their own natives and also uses those in remedies. I'm happy to give qualified answers on the topic from a very neutral and unbiased stand point. -
Ive sent you a message of a Boston Breeder you can speak to.

Dog 1 on their Skin Raw Food got worse. Dog 2 on their Skin Raw Food coat totally lost all it's luster and the skin also seems worse. The texture is not very nice, it feels like grainy paste.

Sounds like she's still coping. She doesn't need walks, if she wants to go for a sniff around, take her to the corner or where-ever she wants to go, let her tell you how far and how often she wants to go out. If you think it's her time then it's her time. If you think she's still happy even if she needs a bit of help from you and isn't in agony then she's probably still fine to chill out on the sofa all day. If anything keep her weight down, it will help her movement.

You say something or report it, that simple. -

Just popping back in briefly to advise VIC Dane Rescue will take her and have her behaviourally assessed if they can find a carer without children - you should get contact from them if you haven't already - I believe this dog has been known to them for a while and have offered to take the dog twice prev. Best of luck. -

What do you want me to say that I haven't said already? If the OP wants to Euth the dog then they'll do it, I've given my opinion of the situation, I'm not the boss, they do whatever they want. I'm attempting to be optimistic. If the OP doesn't want to rehab the dog then they wouldn't get a Behaviourist in would they. If they don't want to return the dog to its previous home then they would euth the dog. Every one seems to be making assumptions in what the OP wants and feels. It's up to the OP to decide if they are prepared to work with the dog or not. Ok, I have to hop out now to do other things. -

I'm hopping out of the thread now to do some other stuff, but OP if you want my help in some form, PM me. I wish you all the best and whatever the end result, it's not going to be easy or straight forward from where I'm sitting. -

The OP said that the previous owner isn't even sure whether the dog HAS a chip or not! It could be in anyone's name or no one's name. I read that but as it is a purebred dane (which isn't a breed you see offered for sale just anywhere), it is quite possible that it actually is chipped and they will find out tomorrow when it is taken to the vets. I hope it is chipped and the OP has some recourse to get her money back. Yeah you do, they are backyard bred like you wouldn't believe, Dane Rescue nationally rehome over 200 a year. -

Of course it is....if they want to work with it...if they don't then return it to the prev. owners regardless of if the they want the bloody dog back or not. -

sas - the owner will NOT refund any money - and has said they will rehome this dog. What sense is there in the OP returning the dog to them? My point is is not these poor bloody new owners job to euth this dog. They want a rescue to take it? You ask me to take it, sure, I'll euth it myself (as a responsible rescue I can't rehome a dog who has behaved in this manner and I'm not a Behaviourist) and ball like a baby when I do it, it's not my job to do that and it's not the owners either. I have returned dogs to owners who send me dogs based on false information. -

I say this sincerely to everyone.....don't ever fall for the lack of socialisation routine and blame yourselves for the incorrect raising of a pup who ends up defence aggressive..........it's a genetic nerve weakness in the dog, not the way you have raised it. Dogs of strong nerve and genetic temperament stability don't need socialisation at all as the world isn't a scary place in their mindset. Socialisation and environmental exposure in pups helps to mask nerve deficiency and better prepare weak dogs for urban living in a pet environment. Unfortunately not all breeders run off strong nerved dogs so socialisation of a pup is an important phase in raising but only because you can't guarantee the pup you have received is bred off stable character ancestry. One of my favourite tests is gunfire testing Labradors and Golden Retrievers and the one's who bolt, ask the breeders why they are breeding gun dogs on parentage who are scared of gunfire....you will be surprised No one knows whats wrong with the dog - therefore why should it be euth'd on an assumption, I always believe prior to euthing a dog there should be a behavioural assessment so you know what you're dealing with. I absolutely disagree that dogs in a domestic environment don't need socialisation with their environment. Although that's a whole other topic so best not to get into it here. I'm the first to say that weak nerves have become part of Danes however there are a number of breeders that also have their dogs never leave their property, we don't know what the deal is here. If the new owner does not want to work with the dog then I guess there are little options, I guess I'm just being optimistic. Hell, I'd return the dog and tie it to their bloody front door and kiss my money good bye > the dirty dead of euthing the dog is not the new owners.
