Starting Up A Dog Boarding Business
Ben and Jerry replied to JozMan's topic in General Dog Discussion
Have you looked into volunteering or seeking a job at any of your local kennels? If you want to run your own business have you studied any business or animal related subjects or have any plans too? As you said setting up a business will take a lot of work and time, something to consider would be do you want to run your own at home pet minding business, how would you go about setting up a reputation within your community too let clients know you can be trusted in their home. I imagine getting quality references could help you out here. If you were to set up your own kennel facility have you sat down and worked out the costs? On going staff costs, facilities, feeding costs, insurance and I imagine your going to need permits or something dependent on the amount of dogs that will be in boarding. I think your best bet will be getting out there and gaining hands on experiences in an already set up business then going from there. Good luck with it all. -
Where To Buy Kong Toys In Perth - Best Prices?
Ben and Jerry replied to spikey's topic in General Dog Discussion
http://pets1.com.au/Kong-Classic-Large.html Seems like it would come to about $20 if you ordered here. Can't say I've paid too much attention to the prices of these in stores, but $25-$30 is popping into my mind, where I live anyway not to sure about WA :). -
My guy is an inside dog whenever I go out. I'm too paranoid to leave him outside when nobody is home because we have neighbors who have a dog that barks excessively during the day whilst no one is home, and it causes a couple behind us to go off about it. There's no issues with destruction or anything here, might come home to the odd stuffed toy everywhere every once in awhile but I think he spends most of his alone time sleeping.

If you know it's too early to tell if the food agrees with Missy or not then why go from Raw, to Earthborn Fish and now to another Earthborn flavor with the addition of another new meat product in what appears to be less then a week?
-
I don't understand why you haven't just gone and got the Earthborn Chicken vareiety if you think she is going to like it? I'm not familiar with this brand of food but does it have a 100% satisfaction garantee like other super premium foods? It seems like you only really gave Missy two days on the new kibble, did you do a transition period from the raw to kibble or just a straight swap? If I were a dog, I'm sure I would prefer a raw diet to kibble and wouldn't be happy if the food was immediately swapped over. As for recommendations by others, people can reccommend as many different foods as they want but it appears your deadset on going for the Earthborn route and are just going to get it, no matter what is said about other brands. Your not going to know what works for Missy until you try it but when you do find whatever works just stick with it, if that just happens to be Optimum or some cheap ass homebrand food then feed it, if it's working then that's the main thing imo. Some dogs do great on budget kibbles and not so great on super premium. You also go on about raw being to expensive to feed for four dogs. If Missy does well on raw why not stick to it? If your other three do well on Black Hawk why not keep them on that? Did you not think through the scenario of "what if all four dogs can't/won't eat the same diet" before adding Missy to the pack?
-
If she still gets raw food maybe she knows if she holds out she will get it eventually. If you want her on kibble maybe cutting out the raw completely for now could be best just until she learns to eat what she is given. Alternatively you could try something like liver sprinkles over the top to see how she goes.
-
Did you give the kibble more then a few days to see how she goes? When she takes a couple bites and leaves the rest do you then give her something else, such as raw? Or just let her go hungry?

I'm no vet nurse or vet but a quick search for me bought up info about the surgery being fairly similar to desexing when caught in the early stages? Was an Australian link and top result on the page.

We use to use Tara boarding kennel very regularly for about 12 years and had no issues with them. Pens were kept clean and daily medication was given as requested and our girl was always happy to go there. It's probably been about 6 years since we last needed to use them so can't comment on how they operate now, but if there anything like they use to be for us then I'd reccommend them in a heartbeat.

What Do Behaviourists Do? Just Out Of Curiosity...
Ben and Jerry replied to Rilla-My-Rilla's topic in General Dog Discussion
As someone who had never owned a dog of my own before, all I really learnt was other signs to watch out for, to know when my dog was not happy. -

I came across this this behaviourist via a rescue group who use him for dogs that come through there organisation. Not much info on them from the internet that I could find mostly just why they became a behaviourist. I haven't had much luck with finding a quality behaviorist who knows there stuff in my state and have been recommended to travel interstate. I hope to get the opportunity to see someone interstate at some stage soon but at the moment it's just not that possible with work. -

I had a behaviourists out to my place late last year. His assessment of my dog was fear and lack of confidence he came to this conclusion after yelling at him and yanking a lead -
Once I finish the Hills I have I want to try the Fish bag and see how it goes with allergies. Unless of course we find out what allergies we have by then :).

I love how her tongues pocking out in both photos :D.
-
It's very clever .
-
Aww look at her, she is gorgeous.
-
Thanks , that definitely answers that confusing question then .
-
Yeah that's what I'm referring too. I thought they were done at some point during a trial usually after the recall? Maybe I was outside in the cold too long and didn't know what I was on about but I kept thinking "finishes" were an exercise on there own, completely forgetting they were done at the end of another excercise until I read Murves last post. I blame the cold :p.
-
Opps sorry, I think I got myself confused since we generally practice our finishes seperately, I was thinking it was something that was always done by itself and have realised if my dog does his recall correctly then he is already in position for the finish .
-
CCD.

I've gone completely blank and forgotten my role in Finishing. When told to leave my dog do I just step out nose to knees or is it like a recall and I walk off until told to about turn and holt?
-
I thought I read somewhere on here that people had been using it but when I did a search I must of been thinking of another food .

We have just got the Wellness range of pet food in at work and I was looking to find some feedback on it. I am hoping to be able to try it on my guy once we finish our current bag of food but it's probably another month or two until we will get that opportunity. I've had a quick glance over some of the ingredients as I put it out and it seems to be fairly good in that department. Also had a look at some dog food analysis sites but only seems to be limited comments on the product. So does anyone here currently use it or have you used it in the past? How did you find it? I also understand every dog is different in terms of what you feed them but at this stage any feedback on the product is helpful whether it be good or bad . Thanks :)
