  1. Dogs don't have to be there. Just after some people to come down run the BBQ, raise some funds for themselves and promote their rescue.
  2. I'm looking for a rescue group who can host a BBQ over a weekend in October (Weekend to be confirmed once someone has been found). I need someone who can do both Saturday AND Sunday, ideally 10/11amish until 2/3pmish. The BBQ will be held at a pet supplies store in Weston. We will provide BBQ, gas, sausages, bread, sauce and a few drinks and all you need is some material to promote your business, some people to sell sausages more details will be discussed via phone/email. All money raised will go towards your rescue so you stand to make some money and you will have the chance to spread the word to customers about what you do any why. If your interested please contact me via email - [email protected], before Monday 22nd September.
  3. If you want to buy it directly and avoid postage costs/waits. You can purchase it at Petbarn for the price offered by Pookinuk. Just mention "price pledge" and they will match the price, as long as the site is Australian (from a brief look it appears to be).
  4. Is it wise to have your dog so close to another dog who can "stick his head out of the gate"?
  5. Something's always better than nothing.
  6. Show classes started up mid last year in Tuggeranong if I recall and from what I've heard from instructors there, it has become quite popular and well run with some very experienced show people. I'd almost say easiest way to gauge it's quality for yourself would be to pop down on a Tuesday night and see how they operate and have a chat with the show instructors. I know a lot easier said then done if your living on the other side of town.
  7. If you have a local Pet Stock, I believe it's sold exclusively by them at the moment?
  8. If you can close off the room and it doesn't contain the tanks you could go the flea bomb option, it would probably be more ideal to do when your not away so you can air it out sooner. If it's still an issue to use a bomb, possibly try a flea powder that you can use on the couch and in the carpet before giving them a good vacuum off.
  9. I went from a Rogz lead to one of the K9 Gripper leashes and I love it. http://www.k9pro.com.au/products/The-Gripper-Leash-4ft-x-5%7B47%7D8%22-.html
  10. Thanks guys guess I'll stick with what I hoped was enough and see what happens :). Kelpie.
  11. I was hoping this would be the best place to ask since everyone has more then likely already gone through this. I'm starting to look into another dog. I've had a look into a few breeders so far and was just wondering about making initial contact. One breeder seems to use a contact form with questions so that's not to bad, but some of the others just have the email us option. Now I've never gotten a dog through a registered breeder before so not to sure what the process is like. For a first email I was thinking I'd just mention I'm looking for a new puppy, what I'd hope to do with the dog and mention a little bit about my current dog and let the rest go from there. Is there anything else I should mention, perhaps things I shouldn't be mention? Thanks :)
  12. Feed Holistic Select. Dont really know why I started feeding it but I've tried just about all premium foods. Spent almost a year on Wellness due to allergies and switched back to Holistic after Wellness seemed to stop helping and his coat became very dry and dull. Now he is back to having a nice soft and shiney coat. I occasionally feed Barf or bones as well but most nights its dry only.
  13. You need a bloke who goes by the name of "Smiley" best rep I've met .
  14. I get asked all the time if I named my dog Jerry because of Ben and Jerry's ice cream. Had no idea there was even an ice cream by that name until it got mentioned enough, I just let people know it's what he was named at the RSPCA and I couldn't be bothered changing it.
  15. That's the problem we have with ours. It's a bit of a squeeze to get out. We bought it originally for our old dog so she could take herself in and out as she pleased when we were home. Due to the flap size it was never left open when no one was home. These days it just sits there rarely being opened as there is now a cat living here that has worked out she can get outside this way. I think for smaller dogs these are great though. From memory I think I paid around $300 for it.
  16. I can't recommend anyone but all I can say is avoid Bark Busters in Canberra, seemed to make my dog worse when I used them.
  17. I was feeding Holistic Select for a year and a half, then spent 6-8 months on Hills ultra Z/D for unknown skin irritations. I now alternate between Wellness fish and lamb as it seems to have helped immensely with scratching and rubbing. Occasionally I will also buy the VAN raw mix and mix a bit in with his kibble. Other then that, diet pretty much stays the same as I haven't had to use our medication in several months.
  18. Possibly contact the customer service team and I'm sure they would happily go through the process and answer any questions regarding how it's run :).
  19. Why???? Because you will have a mis match of energy levels, I've seen this a couple of times. Dogs end up being separated or the older one being bombarded by the pup. Bear in mind the OP works full time, so they will be alone together a lot. If there are other distractions around it probably wouldn't be as much of an issue. When I got a new puppy, our older dog was about 14 years old. Yes they had different energy levels but that was never an issue. Our old girl would tell the puppy off if he was becoming to much for her and it didn't take him long to learn when enough was enough. We never forced them to be separate, our old girl would just wonder off to another room if she wanted some alone time.
  20. Wasn't sure where to post this so thought I'd maybe try in here. Just saw on the TV that there has apparently been deliberate baiting in the ACT. Atleast one confirmed death from Corroboree Park in Ainslie (fairly certain that's where they said) little pink pellets are what they had been finding out there. Will post a link if I come across it.
  21. Do you mean Pet Stock? Petbarn Belconnen doesn't have a grooming salon.
  22. I recently got one of those "dog grooming for dummies" books for the exact same reason . Haven't had a chance to sit down for more then 5mins to have a good read, but I've browsed through bits and pieces. It seems to cover basics for grooming in general and has hints and tips for different coat types. I would like to find a good DvD so I can watch it as I really hate reading and don't absorb info well that way .
  23. I started on the Fish based kibble to see how we went with on going skin issues. The food seems to be a lot more concentrated then what I have fed in the past (holistic and Hills ZD) so ended up putting 2 kilos on my dog within a week. The packaging is in pounds and I had no idea about the pounds so I went with 2 cups of food like I had been feeding with Hills ZD. After the first week of noticing him looking a little bit bigger then normal I cut down the 3/4 cup of food and his weight is back to where it once was. I am currently feeding the chicken based kibble just for a change and since being on Wellness I've noticed his itchy has reduced by a lot, still scratches and rubs on the odd occasion but no where near as much as he use to which was causing him too break the skin around his face. I don't know for certain if it's the food that helped him out or another product I'm trialling too but as I haven't had to give him any of his medication in 2-3 weeks I'll leave things the way they are :). I got a sample can of Chicken Stew and all I can say is it smelt good enough to eat myself :p.
