Hi Loraine, hope your doggy feels better soon!
I don't personally believe in artificial sweeteners for even people, as they are bad for your body ! I am a diabetic and rarely touch the stuff . I was buying those sugar free lollies for a while, but don't anymore.
Accident do occur no matter how careful we are. however I do try to keep non doggy safe things in places where I hope they will never get to them. So far so good in all the years I have owned dogs. I guess it only takes one time tho.
Jules and English Ivy - I am pleased to say he suffered nothing more than a case of the 'runs' and a bout of throwing up. As I originally said he was taken to the vet and that was taken seriously, but we both found it funny for him as he is not normally interested in'human' food, and certainly not interested in lollies or chocs.
I guess you'd have to know him to see the funny side (once his health was checked). He is a very laid back boy, who is very obedient and very rarely puts a foot or paw wrong.
Jules I gave up sugar in my early teens (many moons ago :D ) and have just got onto these sweets as I am on a diet - strqange how all the recipes are for sweet things that I don't normally crave :D
-
Zedley(who is not normally a scrounger hound or a beggar boy) found my stash of Sugar Free sweeties, by the time I found him he had unwrapped a dozen of the tiny things and scoffed them down - now I can hear his tummy gurgling away and the occasional smelly wind, and he has thrown up. He also had the runs Luckily nothing worse has happened to him.
He had a vet appt this afternoon for something else, and has been laughed at mightily.

Good thoughts and prayers coming from the West for Earl. Hugs for you KHM.
-
Fantastic how well he is doing all things consdiered. I don't think I would be having the lad on a leash ether.
He is one lucky doggie with a Mum like you and a sister like Emmy.

Zedley is never really happy to get into the water, but as soon as he is out of the tub he jumps on his table and loves being brushed, dried, clipped :D
-
So sorry RIP Cindy.
-
Zedley comes to me if his bum stuff has not fallen out I was making my fist cuppa of the day and wondering why he was following me around the kitchen (he usually goes out for a pee and straight back to the bedroom to wait for me to get dressed). That morning he had a case of the runs and needed his botty wiped
-
Such a terrible thing to happen. RIP Brock.
-
Ohhhh he is too cute for words.
-
I shall only comment on the PDSA. They have been around in the UK for dozens of years. Way back you could get your animals treated for whatever you could afford and they really help a lot of people. They are lesser known that the RSPCA insofar as they don't get as much press (good or bad). I can understand why they have to cut back in some way on the pets that they can care for. They saved our old cat with medications and treatment that would have cost thousands.
-
That story made my eyes leak. what a wonderful thing you did for this lovely girl.
-
I'm happy to wait until they are ready. If there is anything I can do over the i/net please let me know.
-
Is he going to have a bit fluid tablts???
My cav had a quite wet cough which completely disappeared after medication lived another 3 years.
Not sure about meds. He is currently on antibiotics for his snotty nose and cough. I saw him yesterday and he looked perfectly fine , good enough for a bit of a run around the garden with Zedley.
Thank you all for your kind thoughts and wishes
-
Alfie had a sonar/scan thing yesterday and the news is GREAT!!!!.
He does have thickening of one heart value, but that is normal for his size and breed. He is getting a little backwash thru the heart, but the vet at the sonar place said that all was normal for a Wei of Alfie's age. She expects him to go on for a good few years yet.
Son is so relieved, and so am I. I am convinced that all your good thoughts helped.
-
Colleen Gracie truely is a Champion of Champions. what a great girl, and thank goodness you took notice of that special bark
-
Thank you all for your good thoughts. Alfie is at the vet this morning for an ultra sound. Son will phone me later today with the latest prognosis. I met Hort's Kuga, great old man to the end.
I know my son is feeling quite upset as he rarely chats for more than a couple of seconds to his Mum. He was asking me about drugs and treatments (I am good for something :D ).
I will post the outcome of the scans as soon as I know anything.
-
My son has just phoned me (he is devastated), big Alfie his Weimaraner is at the vet. The vet has told son that Alfie has a heart murmur and fluid around his lungs. Alfie is 7.5 yrs old and generally had good health. The vet has told son that this may be the end for the big dog Dog is having xrays and son will know much more by the end of this afternoon. Please keep Alfie in your thoughts. My son also needs a thought, he has never lost an animal yet (he is 40) and this was his heart dog, and he will be heartbroken if the worst is the very worst.
Alfie has been coughing (like he had something in his throat - known by me as the heart cough), and he has been bringing up clear fluid.

.... You never know - Zedley might have been the one to get up and call the police, before he ventured back to bed.
ROFL Erny - Zedley is so laid back he would probably welcome the burglar with open paws!!! He is on 1/2 a promax each night, but it honestly does not knock him out, just stops him from trying to escape. I think he figured 'let sleeping dogs lie'.
-
Apparently we had an intruder in our cul-de-sac last night at 0410. He woke up the next door but one's dog who barked like a crazy thing, the intruder was seen by two neightbours and tbe police came in two flashing lite cars, the intruder ran off thru my gate
AND
Zedley the weird slept thru it (well he is on drugs), as did I!!!
-
Wow something new for me to see nexy year when I go back to visit the rellies in N. Yorks. Fantastic story, thanks Willow.
-
I have no idea why they do it, but all of my dogs have done it. Zedley actually does zoomies around the lounge room when we have a visitor that he loves
-
I have noticed that vets seem to charge what they like for titre testing. My vet south 'burbs of Perth charges me $150.00, vet down the road will charge me $90.00 for the same service.

Last Thursday Zedley had 9 grand mal seizures. He has been on valium and phenobarbitone since then.
He has lost a lot of cognitive function. His back legs go from under him, he walks into things, and get stuck in corners, cries for me to pick him up and take him out for toileting. Yesterday when he pooped it was watery and then some blood (he is a raw feeder and I know every morsel that goes in his mouth).
It is with a very sad heart that I have decided to give him his wings tomorrow. He has no real quality of life and having spoken to the professor at Murdoch vet hospital and Coco's old vet - I know that he cannot regain any quality or life better than this, and this is not good for him. He is only 9, but I know that my boy Coco will be waiting to greet him at the Bridge.
Please hold him and me in your thoughts.
