My vet has told me to try (for 3 weeks) cooked Roo meat and boiled, mashed potatoes. I normally feed my boy raw chicken meat, wings and carcasses and some none wheat kibble. Do you think I could feed him raw roo (instead of cooked) and boiled spuds? This whole exercise is to start feeding new foods to see if his foods have been causing his itchy, red skin. He is a Wire Haired Fox Terrier.

My mini poodle was diagnosed at age 12.5. I had him on Lysodren and then Trilostane. I prefer Lysodren! It required regular ACTH testing and medication adjustments, water measurements etd., but was not that hard once you got into the routine. Here is a really great group for Cushpups. http://caninecushings.net/ If your friend needs any assitance please email me at [email protected] You really do need a vet who has a good understanding of Cushing's in dogs. I had to change my vet as he did not understand the protocols for using the meds I found a guy who had treated a number of Cushpups and who did not mind that I sourced info from the internet. Unfortunately I lost my Coco at 15.5 due to a third renal failure episode. I have a heap of info I am happy to share, and I communicate with a couple of other Cush-parents in Australia. If it is adrenal then there is the possiblity of removing the adrenal glands which turns the dog Addisonion and the dog then must be on prednisone for life. They are doing pituirary surgery in the USA but I am not sure that it has been done in Australia. I also have a girlfriend who had pit Cushing's, had the pit tumour removed and then had to have her adrenal glands removed. Heck I know a lot about this rotten disease! Also - take no notice of the 3 yr expected life span. I know a number of dogs who have had Cushing's for 10 years+!

Zedley has been having it once every couple of months for a change. He usually gets raw meat and veggies. He loves it

Kate I am so very sorry that Kiah has gone to the . Hold the memories of her in your heart. You will get over this, although it feels like you never will right now. (((HUGS))) -
Ground chicken carcasses with meat, plus a small hand of kibble. Oh and raw bones :D
-
Mt Wire Haired Foxy gets 100gm of chicken (bones and meat minced) plus about half a cup of kibble. He also gets a chicken neck or wing tip every other day. Raw meaty bones, some days instead of the mince

Oh Erny what a trip you and Kal are one. I do not like Rimadyl, personally. Here is some info plus a link Pfizer acknowledges a problem with some dog owners, especially the consumer group which mounted a campaign dubbed BARKS, for Be Aware of Rimadyl's Known Side-effects (including loss of appetite, wobbling, vomiting, seizures and severe liver malfunction). The drug company is reported to be contacting pet owners who have told their stories on the Internet, and is offering to pay medical and diagnostic expenses for some dogs who may have been harmed by Rimadyl. http://www.pgaa.com/canine/health/rimadylwarning.html It also give alternatives to Rimadyl. Good luck to you both. -

Hi Erny, glad to hear that the pheno is kicking in, and that Kal has enjoyed a trip to the park. Bugger about the nasal problem, poor Kal (poor you). Woman, you should be in charge of an army, you are putting in one heck of a fight for that girl - what a great Mum you are . Keeping you both in my prayers and thoughts. -

Uncontrollable Urge To Pee. Stops On Vomit
Loraine replied to Erny's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have never heard of a liver biopsy being done to detect Cushing's Erny. It is usually the ACTH, LDDS, HDDS tests and a look at the urine are all that I have known to be done. Just as an aside I have just read this on the US Cushing's site: -

Erny all of the descisions we make on behalf of our dogs are difficult, but we end up doing what it right for their sakes. The love you are showing Kal will surely give support to him if you decide to go with the operation, or if you decide to do nothing further. You know you have our support all of the way -

Erny I am still keeping you and Kal in my prayers. Hoping for good news soon! -
I've just started to use the Dremel on Zedley, I am doing one nail at a time, and not doing it too far. He is adjusting just fine, and he gets a treat when he stays still. He has really long nails and they don't wear off on the pavement either :D

I am so sorry Allerzeit. Fly free Stewie, say Hi to my Coco for me.

Erny I keep coming back to this thread on Kal. I am keeping fingers and toes crossed for Kal. If Addisons happens to be the outcome, then dogs in the US have a monthly injection of Percorten, plus some cortisol meds to take daily. They live normal lives and are happy creatures -

Loraine replied to Erny's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Just managed to catch up with this thread. Erny I am crossing my fingers for Kal and you. The hunger will probably be caused by the adrenal gland pushing too much cortisol (a tumour on the adrenal is also adrenal dependent Cushing's). Once the adrenal/s are removed things should improve vastly. -

Erny I am so pleased to hear that Kal was negative for Cushing's and Addisons. How frustrating not to know what is wrong with our furbabes. Sounds like you have a good vet on your side -
