  1. My boy has the itchies. I've tried various shampoos, drugs from the vet, elimination diets THEN found out that he had a thyroid problem. Now he is on thyroid meds all is fine, although I know that he is allergic to beef and oats>
  2. http://www.ehow.com/way_5143131_treatment-...gs-disease.html Just found this site - discusses all of the various drugs. KL fantastic news that Chloe is steadying, shame about the test costs. I dare not think of how much I spent on tests and drugs during Coco's Cushing"s. He was worth every penny, even if we had to get the belt really tight.
  3. I power walk with my dog. During the first 10 minutes he is allowed to water his fave trees/bushes and then we set off. He always stays on my left, never pulls me to a stop. When we are just strolling along he does the usual dog thing of sniffing, peeing for Australia, pooping etc. He just seems very prepared to got vor serious very fast walks - gotta love my dog ETA he is a 7 yr old Wire Haired Fox Terrier
  4. Kelly Louise I am keeping my fingers crossed for a good outcome. I actually do not think the adrenals would stop working on their own (Chloe does have pit Cushing's?). The pit tumour sends the wrong signals to the adrenals to make an amount of cortisol - Cushing's is when the signals are too frequent amd the adrenals pump out too much cortisol. Of course I suppose that there is nothing to stop a dog getting an adrenal tumour too and then the adrenals will shut down. It is really difficult not to be a panic merchant and keep having the dog to the vet at the slightest change. If Chloe keeps dropping into Addison's have you asked the vet about maybe making her Addy and just giving a cortison tablet every day? J - Occy seems to be responding well so far. Red Dogs - I still look in at the other site and see what is happening.
  5. Are you thinking of getting a friend for Ivy or are you looking at finding a good stud boy for her? If you are going to breed I believe you will need to become a member of the appropriate Kennel club/organisation and think up a cool name for your litter
  6. Good lord what a small world it is. I found that group in the late '90's just as my boy was diagnosed. They offer the best support and resources.
  7. So gorgeous and it looks like a really cheeky glint in her eye
  8. How unprepared are you when getting a new dog You are meant to have the camera at the ready and start off with lots of pics of the lovely girl
  9. My mini poodle went onto heart meds for a murmur when he was about 10 - he got to 15.5 and also had Cushing's disease.
  10. My Wire Haired Foxie loves to play with bigger dogs. He tends to be faster than they are and can run right underneath the son's Wei
  11. My vet said to wait a couple of months before putting the dog under a general anaesthetic, just to make sure that the Cushing's meds are right. You may find that Occy starts to limp more as the cortisol in his body lessens (it acts as a pain killer). Juice please keep us up dated with your Mase. Perhaps start his own thread.
  12. Great to see you back Ambervale. You and yours were in my thoughts this last Christmas. I love that Leo is looking so fantastic - great that Leoluva is practisign her grooming talents on him He lookd so contented in your love. Sorry about the black side of life, but I am sure that you and your children will come out the other side with love, laughter and feeling stronger than ever.
  13. Further update on the itchies. I found some Alpha Keri Wash at my local chemist. I will be trying it nest week. I also bough some vitamin E oil (sot me a small ransom) I put on a drop on each nibbled bit and he has stopped biting (fingers crossed). I will add more after his next bath in the new Alpha Keri wash.
  14. Maybe advise her that if another dogs jis injured by tripping or getting tangled in her dog's lead she will be liable for vet costs ie a broken leg = very costly.
  15. Further update on my trial with the Avon stuff. I had to bath him this morning as he was biting chunks out of himself. It looked like the Skins so Soft was irritating him. The redness has gone down and he is not nibbling so much. I wonder if it is worth buying some Alpha Keri to try on the ratbag.
  16. Juice I agree with everything Kelly has said. It can be expensive, but once you get a feel for the disease it becomes almost second nature to handle the treatment and the drugs. As my vet used to say to me "you are closest to your dog, and therefore you know him better than I do". What he was telling me is that I coud see changes on a daily basis and he could not - therefore you need a vet you can trust and who trusts you.
  17. My Zedley has itchy skin and from time to time I have to give him Pred. I hate doing this as it brings on Cushing's type symptoms (water guzzling, food gobbling, constant hunger) and it can lead to Iatrogenic Cushing's. Having had a true Cushdog I had no intention of putting Zedley onto pred, BUT when it gets bad it is the only thing that calms his skin down. I have done the food elmiinimation things, tried homeopathic remedies, bashed my head on a brick wall - all to no avail. If he is going to itch I have to give him pred, I try to keep it as short as possible, I amke sure he has enough water and I refuse to overfeed him, as Pred-weight is hard to remove.
  18. I love my Houndbag (I have the smaller one) it has more pockets than I need for my phone, keys, spare leads, treats etc., etc.,
  19. OK test carried out, dog now shining with the Avon stuff. He smells cute too! He looks a little greasy (he is a Wire Haired Foxie). The skin is showing and it is pink. I have not yet noticed any difference in the itchies but it is only a few hours. I did not dilute it (will if I try it again), but did rinse him well under his shower. Will come back with more details in a week or three.
  20. I am so soory that Guiness has gone to the Bridge. You must be heartbroken.
  21. I think that Pet Rescue might like to know about this. then I will do my dog-given duty and snitch to Pet Rescue
  22. Does it mean the parents' papers come with the puppies? as an aside, the RSPCA and other rescue groups want to put (and some already are) their puppies/dogs in pet shops for exposure so I guess what's the difference? Cannington PP have live pets in the windows and posters inside taken from Pet Rescue!
  23. Click go the Shears on Green Street (just up from Dog Swamp shopping centre) 1 Green Street North Perth 0415 195 957 Not sure how Maria is for bookings (she also has a mobile salon). She used to do my mini poodle and does my mates maltyshoo X
  24. I think that the three yearly vaccination is just triple the amount of the one year one. That means your dog will be getting a huge input of drugs. I have my boy Titer tested (hardly any difference in price) and it means he does not need all those drugs. If you go this route, check around with local vets as to how much they will charge (there can be a huge difference in prices vets charge).
