  1. As soon as the nights get dark earlier Zedley starts his routine of panting (like he has run a marathon), pacing with his tail tucked in, going in and out of his dog door. When I go to bed he happily jumps on the bed, appears to be relaxed and lies, sleeping (dozing) until I put my book down and turn out the light. He then gets off the bed and onto his own compay bed (his choice to sleep there). The real problem then starts - I turn off the lights around 11pm, between 0130 and 0230 he wakes me up panting like a steam train, headbuts the window, tangles up my curtains.. If I let him out of the bedroom he will go to his door and run in and out (not going to the loo). Last night I put his bed into the bathroom and closed him in there (it is freezing at the moment) About an hour later he woke me crying to get out of the bathroom. It is almost as is he is manic. As I take serious meds at night and have arthritis of the spine all this getting in and out of bed, being woken up a dozen times a night is rally frazzling me. I really feel I could choke the little b*gger. I am back to the vet tomorrow to get him some knock out pills again, but I hate doing this to him. Does any one have any ideas to hlep me to help him???
  2. I agree with call the ranger. I did with one of our local dog who was always on the run. The family copped a fine and were also made to have the dog neutered!
  3. What an absolutely delightful boy. you must be so pleased that you found him to add to your gang
  4. Have ordered and paid by PayPal. Have used my DOL name.
  5. Yet again you have produced some gorgeous puppies. You must be thrilled to bits
  6. Sure there is - do you want it hypoallergenic as well? Or do real men just put up with any hives and sneezing? I'd like it to be hypoallergenic - I can't put up with the men that (can't) put up with hives and sneezing
  7. Hi Gary and welcome to DOL. Maybe your dog needs to just be having two meals a day (depends on breed). I would give him a bone in the morning and then nothing until lunch time, leave out the lunch for 20 minutes - anything left over goes out of his sight, same again at dinner time. If you leave it to him to nibble throughout the day, he will ever get used to eating his meal and moving on.
  8. Oh, he's a natural alright - give him a pat and he is yours for life
  9. Happy birthday gorgeous little man. What a sweetie you are.
  10. On our morning walk we came upon a group of very elderly, many in wheelchairs, folks from a nearby aged persons home. Most of them knew that Zedley is a Wire Haired Fox Terrier (one of the carers thought he was a Schnauzer ), and they commented on how rare it is to see these dogs these days. They all wanted to give him a pat and a scratch. He is so laid back and friendly, he loved the extra pats and went to each and every person in turn. They are not even allowed to have birds in this particular home, so they said they would look out for us on our morning walks. Makes your heart sing
  11. I there going to be a miniature version of that wonderful man errr dog???
  12. Good article in That's Life, baised towards RSPCA, but the message is to stop puppy farmers by alerting the public to where your dogs come from. Sign the petition www.closepuppyfactories.org This will help RSPCA shut puppy farms down for good.
  13. I would be asking the vet to do an LDDS or ACTH blood test (maybe a different vet) to check for Cushing's disease. Raging thirst and nagging constantly for food are signs of Cushings.
  14. They need a fun Wire Haired Fox Terrier - heaps of energy, love playing, easy to groom.
  15. We have been visiting Zedley's best mate today. BJ is a yellow lab who spent his last summer holidays with us whilst his family went to Euorpe. They are off to the Gold Coast in the middle of August for 2 weeks, and have asked if BJ can come stay once again . He is a lovely dog and Zedley will play with him for hours, so I am guessing I have one happy dog :D who will be over the moon in August.
  16. Such fantastic news, and I am betting Emmy is part of the reason
  17. In my lifetime I have had many dogs, all of whom were much loved. I do however, have one heart dog. My beloved Coco (RIP honey boy) will always be the most special dog I have ever owned.
  18. I took on a neighbour's dog for 6 weeks whilst they went overseas. They left all of his BARF in their freezer which I could access when necessary. They gave me their microchip details, vet name (same as the one I use) blank signed cheque in case of vet emergency. They gave me $100 for caring for the dog (I really did not want paying). He moved in with me and mine and we all had a great time. Nearly forgot, I also had numbers to contact them around Europe. I asked if they wanted to be informed should their dog be killed/die. They did not want to be informed until they returned (thank goodness that was not necessary!)
  19. Great news - hope Morrison makes a speedy recovery
  20. In our little cul-de-sac we have daily get-togethers in the warm weather. People have a glas of wine, a few chips and dips. I am the only dog owner who insists that no-one gives my dog any of the human food, and no sneaky, cheap dog 'treats' either
  21. lovely Sasha, bet your Mum gives you heaps of cuddles and treats - ask her for one from me and one from Zedley
  22. Zedley usually walks half his body length ahead of me, always on my left. If we come to others he comes back right to the side of my left leg.
  23. Great post ERny, you have said what many us feel. Jed, you have given me great advice over my time on DOL and I am looking forward to seeing you back to full health, and back amongst your DOL friends. You know that this great community of dog lovers, loves you too!
  24. I agree with the others that she needs a balanced diet. As for cooking mince, she will eat raw if it is offered. (I feed BARF). If you must cook the mince you can cook it up and then freeeze it so that your family don'e even need to cook it for her. Tell them that you are going to be training her to only eat on command, and only from people you approve of. Saves dogs from picking up rotten or poisoned foods. At her age she will be mouthing (and will continue to do so for a while). She is working out how hard she can bite things. It is a habit best stopped as soon as possible. Carrots will keep her busy and when she does start to teeth, they will help her too.
  25. If I was attacked I can just imagine that Zedley would hide behind me - he is sich a sooky boy. The toy poodle I have in foster is more likely to bite an intruder fiesty little beggar, he is
