It is $1.00 per kilo here at Riverton Forum, BUT it has beef in it too - as Lenards are now selling some beef products. I used to use the chicken mince as they crush up the bones in it too, but Zedley being allergic to beef can no longer have it. Is this all LC or just Riverton? I've not bought from LC in ages! No sure if it is all Len's, but I would ask in future. The shop in Riverton has just re-opened and I thought 'great' cheap food again, but I saw beef in the display and asked if they mixed it into the chicken mince and they told me they did.

Women Injured And Animals Killed In Overnight Fires (caboolture Qld)
Loraine replied to Boronia's topic in In The News
Jed I am so remiss, I forget to look in the news section You are always in my thoughts and prayers. You have been a dispenser of great advice to me and my Zedley, and I hold you in very high esteem. I may not have met you but I certainly feel as if I know you. You have been through a heck of an ordeal which will no doubt, make you an even stronger woman. My prayers are constantly with you, hoping that your recovery is glitchless and you have a new home in the fullness of time. If you want a holiday in the West of this great country you are welcome to come stay with me and the dog. -
Dogs are like humans, individuals. I won't beat you down for believing in psychics. It's a matter of choice. I am not too sure that I believe in readings myself, but I am clutching at straws But I think that natural events (which include animal & human behaviour) have natural explanations. Hard as it can be to track them down. I'd guess your dog's reacting to some natural trigger & it's turned into a habit. He's probably also picking up your negative feelings about his behaviour. This could be true Must be something like that, your vet is thinking. But that doesn't mean the pill she chose will fix it. Pills aren't quick fixes for many human compulsions, either. No I was not too keen on pills for him either, but heck he is driving me nuts Anyway, your belief in the psychic may make you feel differently about your dog's behaviour....& that might help break the cycle which has been set up. Whilst I have been visited, and I feel when my Mum is around me I don't really believe in these people who can get messages from the other side. Best of luck, as it's causing stress & concern for you. Not a good thing to be happening on cold winter nights! Wandering dark parks in the cold and wet does nothing for my arthritis either.

I have also been visited (in the UK) by my Mum's older brother on the night he died. Mita, I have checked everything, I have other dogs here from time to time and they don't go weird. Zedley's vet thinks it is OCD, but the pills she gave do nothing for him. I have sent off a message to Laura Bird and made a note of Melita's number. Thanks all.

Thanks for that dogluva101 - off to the a google search.

Some of you may recall that I recently posted about Zedley turning weird in the eveings. He has been doing this every winter since he arrived here. There is nothing outside to alert him, no strange noises or animals. About 7pm he starts to tuck his usually upright tail, between his legs and go in and out of his dog door a number of times. If I close off the route to the dog door he wanders the sitting room, tail tucked under, shaking, panting and looking really scared, he tends to always be looking at one area of the room. Last night I went into my sleepout to the freezer - door to front garden was open (usually is). Zedley followed me into the sleepout and then ran, tail tucked into the front garden. I guessed he was going to try to escape (just had one of the gates lowered) and followed, to see him disappear under another area I spent the next 45 minutes calling, walking the length of the park behind the house with a flashlight, did that twice, checked local houses with dogs (he knows them all). Finally thinking I would have to give up, I gave one more look to the entrance to the park and there he was coming home. I really could have chocked the little swine ;) During the night he was up and panting and I ended up shutting him in the bathroom for the rest of the night. I really do think that I have a spirit type thing in my sitting room that he becomes aware of, and I am wondering if I can get a dog/animal phychic to come and check out the place. I kid you not, if he continues like this I will probably be done for dog killing ;)
-
Well I guess Zedley is a very brave dog. Given all the drama queens around here ;) He didn't even squeak when the bee stung, just lifted his leg and continued to walk on three legs ;)
-
I don't think he is allergic, but the vet gave him an antihistamine shot to be on the safe side. Golly these dogs turn out to be really bullies, don't they?
-
He started hobbling on three legs He was holding his right rear leg tucked up to his tummy. I looked all over this foot, knee, hip, back etc., thought it might be a pulled muscle and found nothing. Took him to the vet after watching him for about 45 minutes. She found a bee sting in his paw . From the look he gave me I knew he thought I had not done a good job of checking him over

It is the only tinned food I would give my dog. I feed BARF, but keep some NG in the cupboard for emergencies.

Hope fully this is a pic of Zedley with his mate BJ the yellow labrador.

What Do You Use To Walk Your Dog And Why?
Loraine replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
I use a flat collar and lead. Zedley is not a puller, he is a runner so I also take a long lead I made myself if we go to the park. -
I do not think you did anything wrong. It is obvious that the other owner has no clue as to dog behaviour. The dogs were not being aggresive, only playing puppy games. There are many people who own dogs, and care for them well, but have no damned idea about what socialisation means, no idea about puppies playing. I'd be avoiding the silly woman in the future.

Took Zedley to the shop with me yesterday. As I was putting my stuff in the boot three young 'uns walked by. I am guessing 16/17ish, still in High school uniforms. They commented on Zedley being a strange, but good looking dog Proceeded to ask what he was, I told them he was a Wire Haired Fox Terrier and his breed are rarely seen (I have only seen 2 in 21 years). One of them asked if he was purebred, and I told them that was the only kind of dog I would have. They all whipped out their mobile phones and asked if they could take pics of the lad I naturally gave them permission (what dog does not want to be fussed over ), they asked his name and entered it into their phones. I was really surprised and happy that these young folks took an interest in a pedigree dog. They got no lecture from me about DD's, as I didn't feel it was appropriate given the time they took admiring my boy. Gave my heart a warm feeling

I have used it on my thunder-scared boy. Doesn't really stop his terror, but does calm him a bit.

Tango Made A Big Breakthrough - Updated
Loraine replied to spottychick's topic in General Dog Discussion
That is so fantastic Spotty. That Tango has come a very long way. Comes down to good training and persistence on your part :D -
The vet has given him Amitriptyline - 2 x 10mg per day, also known as Endep 10. Noisymina thanks for the link I'll go read up. Thanks for the good wishes and the hugs LuvmyCav. Last night I had the best night's sleep in a week, and so did he !!

Just back from the vet. His eyes are OK. No lymphoma. No other thing wrong other than his heart rate is low (but he always seems to run on a low rate, to do with his thyroid). Vet has an idea that it is an anxiety disorder and has prescribed some tablets, and we are to try them and see how he goes.
-
GR he is well exercised, played with etc. When his lab mate comes he will return to being a 'normal' dog. I think it is anxiety but I am darned if I can work out what causes it in the evenings (never in daylight/time), he doesn't get strange if I have a neighbour over for a drink either. He just stares at the front door (straight into the living room), no barking (so I am thinking he does not expect anyone to be there), whilst starting he pants and shakes. I have taken him outside, walked him around the street, during which time he acts 'normal', then as son as we are home he turns odd! Only 1.5 hours until I can talk to our vet, and at least get him checked over (don't want anything really sinister to get past me). My guess is something along similar lines to valium will be prescribed.
-
That had crossed my mind as I have a lamp on a timer switch, so I took it off timer. We are under a flight path, but it is not that bad in the evenings (same as in the summer anyway), no factories near us. CavsRcute - he is now about 7, but he has been doing this for 3/4 years. He is thunder scared, and I can handle that as he used to feel very safe in the bedroom on nights when we have storms, now I get the feeling that he just can't settle once it has got dark outside, although he is very happy to go outside (in fact he wants to go outside). I'll give you al a rundown on the vet's opinion tomorrow.

He is a beauty. I see one every morning on my walk. They are a very elegant, huge dog
-
Thanks to you all. I do not think his sight is deteriorating, as he broke out of the front gate a couple of weeks ago, took himself through a very dark park to his mate's house. However I will have the vet give him the once over. We are off to the vet at 5 tonight, so I will enquire about the Lymphoma, OCD etc. He has been doing this for the last 2/3 years, but he does not do it in the summer months. All year he has the same access, same foods, same routine (yup I am boring ). During the evenings when he starts this up, the house lights are on, the TV or radio is on. I have tried to distract him, but as soon as the game is over he is back to panting and shivering again. We do not seem to have any wild life that is bothering him. If it is OCD (that seems quite likely) I wonder why it only happens in the winter months? Last night we went to bed, all seemed OK, then he started to pant and I was woken, got up to go to the loo and the swine ran outside asnd stood in the abosultely pouring rain crying right outside of his dog door. I had to go outside (nothing there) to catch him and bring him in, I put him in the bathroom again and left him there until this morning. The vet visit is going to be interesting.

He is not night bline, and I have tried the covered crate and he still dashes around the area like a dog possessed. I am actually serious when I say i think we may have a house ghost.
