OK just found the bit of paper I was scribbling down notes on as I was talking to the vet. Distemper - $130, Parvo - $70. Don't need to bother with the Hep test in Scotland if I don't want to. But it seems to only save $24? I don't get it? And I don't know if they included a consult. I may need to ring the vet back tomorrow. They seemed surprised when I rang and asked about titre testing...the receptionist that answered the phone didn't even know what I was talking about. Seems we need to get it out there more

I am close to the Vic border...I am prepared to travel if need be

$60 Per dog sounds good. If it goes to the same lab in WA why was I quoted so much more? Does anyone know how this is actually done? Do they take actual viles of blood or is it the type where you just botch a bit of blood on a test strip?

My boys are due for their annual vacs and I have made up my mind I am going to titre test this year instead of filling their bodies with unnecessary chemicals. So rang the vets today and got quoted $224. Nearly fell off my chair...and that's each. This is what I was told...Canine Hep needs to go to Scotland, yes you read correctly Scotland for testing, Distemper and Parvo go to WA. This seems a little far doesn't it. Why do they need to go so far, surely there are labs here in SA? What does it cost everyone else and does anyone else know labs that test cheaper?

Hello Warnie people. Just pooping in here to ask you guys what it costs for titre testing there. Was just quoted $224 here for 1 dog. I don't mind driving the 2 hours if it saves me a bit of cash. I like your town. the shopping is good and the beaches are awesome. Quite often come for a day trip.

I would report it to the council at least. What sort of area do you live in? If you are near busy roads he may get hit by a car or if you are in the country he may become interested in chasing someone's stock. Getting hit by a car would be my main concern if it were my dog...but some people just don't care.

I too was an emotional mess when my doggie was at the vets for the night. I didn't sleep at all and was at the vets front door first thing in the morning. Get some good movies to keep your mind off it, read a good book or just come on here for lots of emotional support from people who know what you are going through. Hope there is good news in the morning...if not sooner.

So did the story get on TT? I remembered to change channels at 5 mins to 7 so if it was on I'd probably missed it. -
Dogs Seized From No Kill Shelter

yeah I come on here everyday to read up-dates. This is better than a soap opera :) Really glad I am no longer her neighbour and can watch the drama un-fold from 5 hours away -
Or just get a hairless dog...easier all round

Asking for my sister. Any dog training classes Northside of the City that train on the weekends? Not too far from the Banyo area?

Can Dogs Just Take A Dislike To A Certain Person
flame ryder replied to MsKatie's topic in General Dog Discussion
My Oh used to drive trucks doing hay deliveries for a fodder store. They had a big greatdane who lived there. OH loves dogs and dogs love him...this one was no exception...until one day when OH was tying up a load onto the truck, he reached back behind him to toss the rope over the load and the greatdane was behind him and got hit with the rope. After that the dog hated him with a passion, I think for sure he would have tried to attack him after that and had to be tied up everytime OH entered the yard. He tried everything to make it up to that dog but the dog hated him forever more. -
Do you have a rubber mat outside the door by any chance? My dog sometimes does this (pees just outside the door) especially if it's cold or raining, he'll only go far enough out his doggie door to get his willie out and niagra falls! We have one of those rubber mats outside the door and he piddles on this. I don't know if it's anything to do with the mat or not? I have now dragged the rubber mat onto the garden where I would prefer him to pee. I find since doing this he hasn't peed outside the door but when some well meaning visitor placed the mat back in position outside the door he again peed on it. I also go outside with him and indicate to him where I would like him to pee. He gives me the OH MOTHER look when I make him go out in the cold. I'm so mean.

Waiting For A Puppy This Thread Is For You
flame ryder replied to jess live die's topic in Puppy Chat
Yes they are. I have a confession....I only come in here for the puppy porn. We need a pics only thread. Puppy pics that is -
I just use a regular bean bag from K-Mart. I have it covered with a fluffy blanket, Mojo makes himself a comfy nest in it. He really loves it. He's never been a chewer so I'm not worried he'll chew it at all. I bought my other dog Bentley one...and he peed all over it, I dunno why? I didn't know what to do with it after that so it hung around the carport, smelling for 6 months or so, then one day we had room in the bin and out it went. Now Bentley lays on the floor (or his dad's lap) I aint buying him another. Even the ones from K-Mart aren't cheap.

Fussy Dogs - My Thought Ponder For The Day
flame ryder replied to a topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I've had my fair share of dogs over my lifetime so far. I have had both large and small breeds. Never had a fussy dog. All of my dogs eat everything off their bowls, then look around for more. And just for the record...I have never had a dog with a weight problem either. But my parents animals are always super fussy. They used to go to extremes like buying chicken fillets and cooking them because according to them that's all their pets would eat. I think it was their fault as they used to be so paranoid about it. They really have no idea when it comes to animals. -
People like that should be shot. Oxygen theives

and just for the record...there's a Gladstone in SA too. Anymore out there lol?

I don't wanna be a downer but something that would be my greatest fear if my own dog went missing out there are 2 things...snakes and 10/80 fox baits. Everywhere I've lived there seems to always be on going fox baiting programs by farmers and DENR as foxes are a big problem. Can't even go for a walk on the beach without fear as there are baits laid in the sandhills. Grrr. It's just too sad. I was hoping she's be found by now.

Agility Training Talk Thread
flame ryder replied to Vickie's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Just a question for you agility people out there... The club I train don't allow the dogs to do agility wearing a harness or slip collar. Fair enough but now they make me take off the little bell attached to his collar (which is difficult to remove) and also make me take off his little t-shirt. He is a chinese crested hairless dog and his clothes are often a necessity. I think they are going too far sometimes. Their argument is they are afraid this stuff will get caught on the equipment. If I could see a risk of this actually happening there's no way I'd allow my dog to be at risk. I think there would be more chance of me winning lotto than seeing these items get caught up. They seem to be taking all the fun out of it. They need to realize that we (the owners) do have some degree of responsibility and aren't stupid. So my question is...is this normal or are they being too strict? -
Its actually amazing how many people out there just DON'T have internet, FB or any of the mod cons we are used to. Someone I once used to be friends with had a TV but only used it to watch DVDs so never saw news or anything...never read news papers either. So Cyan may have been picked up and whoever picked her up may still be unaware someone out there is missing her.
-
Ok then please can you tell me why Frontline (and all the other spot on type treatments) is so darn expensive?
-
Yes a few people have said that she may go back to where she last saw her humans. I once had a kelpie cross who I'd often loose out in the bush chasing kangaroos, she'd always come back to the place she last saw me, even though our home was close. But these dogs probably didn't last see their humans at the accident scene, all they know was they were happily traveling home when BANG and their world fell apart. Poor things. Hoping Cyan is found soon.

Yep I remember just over a year ago posting a very similar thread about my boxer. No hiccups but sweaty paws. Everywhere he went he left a little trail of damp paw marks. I was told it was pretty normal for some dogs. Now he is 18 months and I don't even notice sweaty paws. Maybe it's a puppy thing?
