  1. Dammit!!! I don't have pay TV I wonder how long before the novelty wears off? What sort of dog was it?
  2. Is this on mainstream TV? What channel? Sounds interesting...although I've probably missed it now...anyone else watch it?
  3. Most dogs love being in the back of a ute, especially the farm dogs, it's a way of life for them. As long as they are properly tied in...not like what I saw just last week...I was out walking my small dog and this ute (tray top) went flying around the corner with two what looked like hunting/pig dogs on the back. Not tied in and they were both barking at me and my dog. As the ute rounded the corner I could see them slipping and could hear their claws scrabbling for grip. I was afraid they'd slip off and come at me and my dog. Stupid moron driver/owner.
  4. So heartworm is coastal? No-one told me that...I am going to be staying on the coast over the xmas break, now you've got me worried. Can I just buy some heartworm tabs and start now or is it too late? I was going to ring the vet but I'll only get the receptionist and she probably wont know. Also with Hydatids I have been told repeatedly that it only occurs if your dog actually eats sheep offal. Mine don't but they do eat sheep poo, so I always worm for Hydatids just to make sure.
  5. The poor little goat. That's abuse! I can't believe someone would do that. Hope it was ok after that
  6. I give my 3 an all wormer from the vets about twice a year. I don't do any heart-worm as my vet said it's not necessary here as it's not a high risk area...something to do with temperatures? I prefer not to give too many chemicals if it can be avoided.
  7. Thanks so much for a quick response pers :) I did a search on here before and got all this stuff about allergic reactions, dogs passing out, vomiting ect and of course I panicked. He's still licking it and it seems slightly swollen but I remember my last bee sting swelled up too, but I will keep a close eye in it.
  8. Mojo was stung by a bee (we think) this arvo in our garden. I found what looked like the stinger in his foot and pulled it out. He made a big deal out of it, but he is a very sooky dog at the best of times. If it was a weekday I'd ring the vet but seeing as it's Sunday I though I'd spin it by you lot. Should I be worried? should I do anything? He's on his bed licking it now.
  9. Samisam I love Ralphs outfit. Oh boy I wish I could sew...my dogs are probably glad I can't
  10. Yeah there's heaps of stuff out there...but...never in large sizes. Us owners of larger dogs also like to humiliate our dogs by dressing them for xmas. But unless one can sew (and I can't) we have to resort to just hanging tinsel off them. I hate those antler things you put on their heads and the hats...most dogs HATE stuff put on their heads and just shake it off straight away.
  11. But the paint is so far gone it would probably be easy to scrape off to re-paint. Interesting photo pers...bought out the renovator within
  12. How crazy are they!!! Let their dogs roam and they are asking for trouble...arn't they worried about snakes? I wouldn't be letting my dogs outta my sight.
  13. Yeah so funny...I scrolled through 50 pages, laughing all the way until I finally dragged myself away from the computer...addictive!
  14. well maybe not quite the same thing but the creams and lotions we use could benefit both ailments I reckon. I'm not sure if it's starts off moist and gets dry due to him constantly licking and scratching it? I forgot to add that I also use Bio oil on it with some success too.
  15. I'm not 100% sure what you mean by 'hot spot' but my Chinese Crested gets a rash thingy on his belly in spring/summer only. It's red, dry and itchy. I think it's like a heat rash....maybe??? All the cooler months he is fine, even if the weather turns cooler in summer it seems to get better. I have tried paw paw ointment, Kenkay extra relief cream, and Curerash powder. I think they all give some relief but nothing seems to cure it altogether. I have bought some Aloe Vera lotion to try this week. You have to be so careful as they try to lick everything off. He knows he's not supposed to and always looks at me with guilty eyes as if to say 'sorry mum I've gone and licked it all off...you'll need to re-apply more now please'.
  16. I looked at my rescue dog the day I found her at the pound and instantly fell in love with her good looks and quiet ways. I felt the first stirrings of a potentially great bond. Then we bought her home and after a few weeks we noticed her 'issues'. Over the last 4 years we have owned her I have tried to deal with her severe dog aggression issues, but one day at obedience class she attacked another dog and the owner got between them and got bitten. Now that a human has been harmed that's it....she no longer leaves this property. She will end her days here and to be brutally honest I wish I had never got her in the first place. She loves me and my OH and is completely bonded to us, but acts weird around the other family members to the point of hiding when OH and I went away for a romantic weekend alone. She apparently didn't eat for the 3 days we were gone because my daughter was doing the feeding. She has a good life hooning around our large acreage with our other dogs. Although I will be sad when she dies it will actually be a relief. I can't cope with her mental issues. It would be impossible to re-home her as I consider her dangerous and it would be irresponsible to re-home her even if I told the new owners all of her issues I would still feel responsible if any other dogs, or kids got hurt. Although we didn't un-bond as such those initial feelings of potential great bonding gradually faded away over time. Now she is simply another dog who we are fond of but are very disappointed with.
  17. tic can I ask where these gardens are? Looks so nice I would like to go there next time I'm in warny. (assuming they are in Warnanbool that is?) and are dogs allowed?
  18. I would love to know what happened in my rescue dogs past life that makes her hate and fear other dogs. We got her from the pound, who got her from the council from a property from where she was seized. She was approx 1 year old and had just finished rearing a litter of puppies, she still had saggy boobs and was very underweight when we bought her home. At first we didn't notice anything different about her. During the settling in process she was supervised around the other dogs and was never left alone with them, but although a little growly, wasn't aggressive. They soon bonded and became a pack. She seemed very happy although a little wary of men. Then we began to walk her and this is when we noticed her problem. She fears other dogs, both big and small to the point where she is dangerous. She is like the stealth and shows no obvious signs of attack. No growling, hackles or barking. We have tried everything to rectify the problem but these days she rarely leaves our property. This disappoints me as I wanted to do obedience with her...but it is not to be. She also rarely barks, so is a hopeless watch dog and she is still afraid of sudden moves...and shovels. I would never get another rescue dog as I can't (and don't want to) deal with these deep, dark mental problems. It's easy to fix the body to bring a dog up to good weight, fitness and make it's fur shine with health...but the mental scars sometimes never heal no matter what you try or how much you want it to be right.
  19. tic how do you get the background like that? Looks fantastic...like real cards. I did some last year and compared to yours they look crap...jealous now lol
  20. There's one where I walk...a German Shepard who is contained by a measly looking sheep wire type fence, the type that most of mine would easily jump over or barge straight through. It barks aggressively when we walk past, even though we are always on the other side of the road. God help it if it gets out and tries to attack my little one...I will defend my dog any way I can, and then come at the owners like the devil herself lol
  21. Great photos. I just love that part of Victoria. I might go back there myself one day. Were there plenty of places to walk with the dogs?
  22. The collars are pretty big...designed more for larger breeds. I can't imagine one on a 6 week old puppy. If so it would need to be drastically altered, perhaps cut to make it small enough to fit. Given that these collars cost roughly $200 it's hard to believe someone would do this. Then again like I said before it could be second hand or one of the cheaper versions
  23. yeah after shutting down my computer last night I was thinking and I reckon it is actually 6 months. If I could actually be bothered to dig out my instructions that came with the fence I could be sure...but I do remember I waited for what seemed like ages until my boxer was old enough. Perhaps they got the fence system second hand and therefor have no instructions on how to use it properly?
