Dog That Sit Like Frogs...
Olivebaby replied to aussielover's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My pup lies flat with her legs out.... I call it her 'planking' pose! -
Thanks for the great advice! Think I'll go for the adult formula unless I can find a good reason not to! :-) can't wait, I am sick of sloppy poos!!!! Yuk!
-
Ok great. Thanks might just go straight to adult then :-)

Hi was hoping for some advice. I have a 19 week old lab pup on royal canin. I am going to try out the black hawk in a week or so (just waiting until te stockpile of RC decreases a little) and I am wondering whether to try the puppy kibble or go straight to the adult one. Puppy formula can cause rapid growth right? So that's my concern with using the puppy but I am not sure if there would be any adverse effects with putting her on the adult as she isn't even 5 months yet :-S any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated :-)

Ah ok. But some people do it just for looks right? I have seen heaps of Rottis that are not working dogs with their tails docked. But I must admit I have not seen one for a while. My Nanna had a beautiful Rotti when we were kids and her tail was docked. But that was at least 16 years ago!

Why do some breeds of dogs have their tails docked? I can't imagine my lab baby with a stumpy tail it would look wrong, her long whip of a tail makes her look so happy all the time :-)

@ososwift- black hawk... I already have my girl on RC I'm happy enough with it but she is really fussy and I want to see if she will like somethin else better... Last night my girlfriend had the great idea of scooping out her food with one of those tennis ball throwers and feeding it to her like that. She ate it up because I think she thought it was a game! @EI you should!!! Just do a poll or something and see who would buy it, I'm sure there are lots of us NOR! We are getting our sample sent today... Hope my girl isn't developing an eating disorder and will like this food more. Can't think of anything worse than feeding a dog with a nasogastric tube yuk!
-
Thanks EI for your kind offer. They are not very long at the moment so I'll wait. Few weeks and do it. I should be fine. I'll just go very slowly to start with. She is very good with her grooming so I'm sure she will be ok, especially if I waive liver treats in front of her!!!

Yes someone north of the river would be very handy.,, southern river and canning vale are too far for me. I would rather pay the $5 delivery fee I think.
-
Ask Wendy if you can split the bag up into 1 or 10kg bags. She is going to do that for me with my dog food :-)
-
I had no idea I had to trim them, the things you learn as you go along!!! They are not very long but will remember this for later. Any advice on what I should use to trim and how to do this? I'm scared I'll cut them too short and hurt my girl :-(

My girl is a Labrador. I can't see any on her back legs, would that mean they were removed or just never existed?
-
I'm so happy to hear all these good reviews about BH. Its really important to me as well to give my girl the very best, she is my baby after all so ill definitely give it a try. Thank you
-
:-) es she does. They are so cute I always play with them heehee. I just read some breeders cut them off so I wasn't sure if it was them or not. Thanks for the pic :-)

Hi. What do dew claws look like and how do I know if my 18 week old lab baby has them? I have heard this term but have no idea what they actually are.
-
Wow that sounds great. I'm in Osborne park so would be able to have it delivered :-) it would probably save me a fortune as well because I always end up buying too many toys when I go to city farmers! I'll have a look and compare but it sounds like it's worth a go. I still have about 7kg left of RC so heaps to do the swap. I'll get in contact with Wendy and see how my little olive likes it :-) thanks for your help
-
Thanks English.ivy How has it worked for your dog? Olive doesn't seem to mind her food and she looks very healthy but I might just try it when her RC runs out :-)
-
Ok well that's good to know. I'm not too fussed with the price as she is my only child heehee and I don't mind spending the money on good food! But if they are much a muchness I might just keep her on RC as it's obviously a lot easier to get! Thanks for the advice guys :-)

Hi all. I have my 18 week old lab on RC, does anyone have experience with this brand. She seems to be doing well, but then again I don't know any better and blackhawk seems to be getting great reviews!!! I'm in Perth, does anyone know who I could contact to get a sample?
-
That is really unfair. Many dogs have better manners than kids in a cafe anyway! We went to a cafe the other morning at the beach in Perth. Our lab baby was very popular there and everyone was lovely and kept coming up to pat her. I had to laugh at the waitress though who came gushing up to Olive and said "omg she is beautiful, is she a golden retriever???" my partner and I looked at each other and I replied with a big smile "no.... She is a BLACK Labrador" we are still laughing at this comment!

I just transferred my girl over. She was registered in NSW but sent the paperwork to dogswest (WA) they said you could sent to either but makes more sense to send it in your state. Goodluck :-)
-
Thank you buddy 1 for your especially helpful comments. My girl is being registered with the ACKA in WA she already is from NSW where we bought her. So I am joining up with them and maybe even thinking about doing some agility training after talking to one of the ladies from dogswest today :-) did you choose not to show your girl? And when did you start proper agiliy raining with her? How did all of your puppies go? It must of been so hard to give them away :-( anyway I'll keep my eyes open and keep doing the research, talking to breeders etc. And in a year and a half if she is fit and healthy and up to lab standards then I'll look at getting some pups of my own. Thank you again for your kind response :-)

I had my Lab girl on advance as that's what the breeder suggested, but have started changing her to royal canine for labs. She tends to sort out the kibble and leave the advance so I'm guessing she prefers the RC :-)
-
Hi! I have. 17 week old Labrador and have had her from 8 weeks. I started on the advance but have changed to the Labrador specific royal canine and she loves it. I started with about a tea cup size of dry or moistened food 3 times a day with about 70g of fresh mince in each meal. I have recently added flax seed oil to her food as well. She loves this and it's really good for her coat. I agree with the others, ditch the cheap food and buy something better. Royal canine is about $110 a bag but lasts about a month and a half at the age ur pup is :-) I don't know everything about feeding etc. I just know this is what I have done and my pup is in great shape :-) goodluck and enjoy your beautiful baby
