  1. Dogs in the 30's and 40's. Note the structure of the German Shepherd guide dogs. Humorous 50's video about improving the human/canine relationship. Feel free to add more if you find them. :D
  2. Beautiful dog. I would have recommended the Hills a/d as well, but have the vets recommended a low fat diet? It might be a bit much. If you decide to go with a/d, I'd recommend small amounts reguarly, syringed if required. The more you stir a/d the more liquified it becomes, so give it a good whip before drawing it up. Another product to consider id Nutripet. This is a nutrient rich, palatable gel that you can ether mix into her food, put on her food or offer her directly.
  3. If it's arthritis, which it sounds like it might be, there are a lot of things you can do to help. I would go to the vet and ask about Cartrophen injections.
  4. Don't quote me, but I'm pretty sure most companies won't allow a dog that age to take out cover.
  5. What if the chip had migrated an could not be found? Would you rather the individual hold on to the dogs or the dogs go to the pound?
  6. And this is the difficult position these laws put people in.
  7. I made a similar post myself recently. I lost an escaped cat once. He was a microchipped purebred. I still wonder where he is and if I'll ever see him again.
  8. Chris Preston is a specialist surgeon who is carries out TPLOs with regularity. He is good at what he does. Others to consider also are Charles Kuntz, James Simcock (both at Southpaws in Moorabbin) and Wingtip Wong who is in Werribee. How old is Katy?
  9. Don't laugh.. back in the 'old days ' bodies out bush here always had to be well covered or locked away somewhere before the cats found them .... I have no doubt my cat would eat me alive if he thought he could manage it.
  10. How horrific for you. I am glad the doggy is ok. What happened to it?
  11. I don't know about the origins of the video, the circumstances or what happened to the dog, despite enploying heavy use of google. ETA: On a lighter note, google pointed me to several other stories of canine loyalty after their owner's death and in amongst those was a single link regarding a cat: "Cat eats deceased owner". Does this end the cat vs dog debate?
  12. A testament to the loyalty of dogs. I cried like a baby.
  13. No tables, benches, pantries or fridges. Everything else is fair game. :D
  14. She is 9 months old, so smart and so mischievious! Well done on the Championship.
  15. Well done, you sound very responsible! Abd nice choice with the Schipperke, I have one too! How old is your Schipp now?
  16. I'm not sure if they understand our 'regret' but I think they understand what is an accident and what is deliberate. In a similar way as when it happens to us, accidents are out of context. My dogs recover immediately after I accidentally hurt them, but not so much if I tell them off. I do say sorry to them, but not with much fuss. I'm sure they interpret the word now to be a confirmation of the fact the act was not deliberate.
  17. Kelpie: Opened his eyes and raised his head. Decided it was nothing of consequence and went back to sleep, occasionally opening his eyes when a new recording was played. Schipperke: Very alert, huffing, growling, staring. Both dogs reacted more to the Coyotes, African Wild dogs and Dingoes than the Domestic dogs.
  18. This one loves cats! http://www.petrescue.com.au/view/112204
  19. That's what I was implying - it may help you if you have a dog that would be classified under the test but is actually a mix of other breeds. I head there was no DNA profile for Pit Bulls - but since I can't remember where I heard it, it's not particularly valid. There is no DNA test for pitbulls, as samples from ANKC dogs are taken to create the breed DNA profile. However, if you get your pitbull DNA tested, it should come back as SBT being the closest match. Not sure how realiable this is in court. Err - no. It should come back as an American Staffordshire Terrier not as a Staffordshire Bull Terrier (SBT) No wonder the politicans are confused  And yet it doesn't. I questioned that as well, however I was told that they usually come back as SBT. This is direct from the creator/director of the leading Canine DNA testing company in Australia. Interesting then that in the Gold Coast case the whole thing went down the loo when genetic evidence showed there was no difference between an Amstaff and an APBT. That is interesting. How did they prove that the dog they tested against was an actual Pitbull rather than an unpapered Amstaff?

  22. We have had a police and dog come through our yard in the middle of the night looking for an intruder. Fortunately our dogs sleep inside, but they did alert us to the commotion. There were no dogs for the police to contend with, but there was a very angry resident, who, assuming the police were an intruder, picked up a hand trolley and almost engaged in a physical confrontation!
