Hi everyone! Just jumping in quickly as I am on a conference/holiday at the moment. I purchased a Canon 60D, just with the kit lenses and I am having lots of fun learning how to use it! Will share more details when I get time but thought I would share this link. Mostly travel photos, and yes.. more like snapshots, but I am trying and keen to learn heaps more when I get back home. Thanks for the link, have been watching a few on youtube now. Next step is to work out how to train this. He understands the showring now and what is expected there, but need to teach him to heel and work on our stays + recall. Hopefully be able to find some more useful into online. I want to make it different to what we currently do for conformation showing, as I would like to try and do both. :)

Thanks, unfortunately do not have a club nearby that does traditional obedience, more companion dog training which I have been doing with Hudson. :) Will do some youtube searches and have a look!

Hey guys :) I am looking at starting to teach Hudson some basic obedience to hopefully get a chance to trial one day. I have never competed in obedience or even had the chance to see an obedience trial, and I am not sure where to start. Is there a good website or good book which goes through the basic moves required and how to start teaching them?

I am proud to say that Hudson will now be known as Aust Ch Dykinta Night Maestro! He managed to pick up the last few points with a bang, winning his first ever Best In Group under Mr. B Daley (NSW) at just 13 months of age. I am so proud of my little man, we have both learnt so much and he has got me hooked in the world of dog showing. I could have never hoped for a better first dog, and I can't wait to find out what else is in store for us in the future!

That's great jrm! I am excited to see him thinking about it. We are still working on increasing out angle of entry to the single set of 2 poles, but he is doing well so far. Baby steps and making it fun. :D -

Yeah he loves practising contacts and the table/wobble board, so we did a lot of that the other day in between some jumping grids. :) He was having a great time which was great. it is so much fun watching him process and understand things.. like with our weave training. -

Thanks Vicki, I think we have been a little too far ahead of ourselves, have come right back to basics again doing a few small jumping excersizes and he has been driving towards the end of the mini grids which was great this afternoon. Today also started training weaves in the 2 by 2 method. On lead starting to clicker train for hudson going forward through the gap :) He is a smart boy. Going to take things slowly - He has 5 months before he is even old enough to trial, so we have plenty of time to work on things. I just want to try and do this right from the start, but being my first attempt at agility it's proving much more difficult than I had imagined. You guys can probably expect a lot of questions I am sorry! -

Did a bit more training today working on a pinwheel after doing a few grids from susan salo's foundation jumping video. I am finding he is starting to cut out on the jump and run over to me towards the inside of the pinwheel. I think this is because he is coming over for treats etc. He loves to play tug, but won't run towards the toy and pick it up, so can't use that as a target. He loves the table and will run towards the table if I ask, but also can't use this all the time or he will constantly be on the table! Think I need to get some more basics under our belt.. hard when I can only go with this trainer - I am so lucky to have someone within 300km doing some agility! Maybe I will have to go book/dvd shopping! -

Aussielover - Congrats on a great trial! I am getting excited about competing already and I still have 4-5 months to wait!! I will have to start going to some trials instead of showing on the weekend to meet people, I don't know anyone who is into agility! -

Been doing a little more training and am halfway through the DVD - Foundation Jumping. Hudson is enjoying the grids so much, and it is great to see him really thinking about the task in front of him and working out how to get through to the end. :) Hoping to have another session with my trainer tomorrow and see if we have made a few little improvements since last week. We are only leaning - both of us, and need to start working on some distance as I realised while trying to practice the slightly modified serpentine. But that might be just a little too much at the moment, my trainer got a little carried away because he was learning so quickly.. but I want to make sure we go about things the right way. :D -

Hudson and I had our third agility lesson today, and our first one on one. :) I was lucky enough that our trainer took some photos while we were training and also took a few pretty portrait style photos of him. We had a bit of trouble with starting on serpentine patterns, but we just need to keep working on it. I am so proud of how he is going, he is my little superstar! For my first agility dog I feel like we are going to have a lot of fun. :D The album: My favourite photos: -
Thanks for the tips on the books, I will get into them! Also very interested in how you guys are advising not to teach 'over' as a command. I too was worried it would become too repetitive and lose some meaning, but my little guy at the moment is so excited with jumping over things, he chooses to jump something if we go past it, and I didn't want that to become a habit. I have never done any agility before and have so much to learn, I am really looking forward to getting some books or dvds. Hudson is an Australian Shepherd, He had SO much fun at training the other day.. I think we are going to have so much fun learning together. I am lucky he is a smart little dude, and I hopefully won't mess him up too much while we learn!

Hey guys, just joining into this thread. My little man is now 12 months old and we can start doing some agility training! We had our first lesson last week and he had the most fun I have ever seen him have! So far we have just been working on shadow handling and he has just come off lead for this. Also starting to build confidence with small jumps and learning the 'over' command. I am hoping to compete next year when he is old enough, and it is important to me that we start out the right way for competitive agility. Can anyone recommend some good books that might be helpful with our training?

Hudson and I had our first agility lesson today - maybe in 2014 we will be there as well!

Well my first show dog has just turned 12 months old, how time has flown by! His last few shows in puppy he managed to bring back 3 x BOB, Puppy in Show + 2x Puppy in Group. He had a great weekend for his birthday, placing 2nd in Junior dog at the QLD Australian Shepherd Specialty in his first outing in Junior and taking home Junior in Show and Best Topline at the open show. He went on to win Junior of Breed at the Ipswich Kennel club show the following day with a big entry. Currently in 2nd place in the Rising Star for the breed, and I still have hope we can improve that before the end of the year. Happy Birthday Hudson! (Thanks to Steph Betts and Wajoma for the photos)

Darn, now you guys are making me lean back towards the Canon 7D rather than the 60D! :p I love shooting horse sports, so fast shooting speeds and tracking is a huge plus.

Travelling Shots - Dorrigo And Surrounds
Elise+Hudson replied to Elise+Hudson's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
Oh, I didn't take it that way at all! I know they are just snapshots, just thought I might still be able to get some feedback on what they were :) I am not completely fixed on a Canon. I originally wanted the Nikon D7000, but think at the moment its out of my price range and would prefer to spend more $$ on the lenses. -

Thanks guys! I will definitely check out that website and see what I can find there! I am still tossing up on my choice of camera, but think the 60D will probably be enough camera without forking out the extra for the 7D. Thanks Snook - I have always enjoyed taking photos for fun, but the opportunities with a DSLR! *drool* -
Sorry I live too far out in the middle of nowhere! Haha I also am only new to showing, I hope you find someone to help you. :D

Reposting as just realised I put this in the wrong place last night!! oops! I am looking at buying myself a Canon 60D as my first DSLR, and was looking through some of my old photos which were taken on my Panasonic Lumix T7 point and shoot. I took these a few years back, and lost interest in photography a bit when I started work in Dubbo. Now I am trying to get some more time for myself, and hoping to get back into it. Seeing as the Dorrigo show was this past weekend, thought these photos would suit! I am interested in comments that might help my future photography pursuits! - Below photos are uncropped and very little if any editing, I can't remember what I did to them at the time. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7.

Hudson had his QLD debut yesterday, going 2nd in puppy sweeps, Best of Breed + Puppy in Show!! It was such an awesome day, considering it rained and finished almost in the dark! He is currently 3rd Rising star in the breed, behind his sister and a gorgeous baby :) Have had a few shows lately with just under the 250 entries which has meant he has missed out on close to 50 points, but he is still doing better than I could have ever hoped! Here is a photo, not the best because of the flash and Hudson is a-framing a bit, wasn't sure what the guy with the keys was doing over out of the picture! haha.. but love it anyway.. He looks so much more grown up than his last pictures!

Anyone?

Hey guys, This will be my first show in QLD and I am super excited, just wondering if any other dolers will be there so I can maybe come over and say hello. I don't know anyone! Just like last year when I was starting up! haha I am so enjoying my holiday so far, and really looking forward to a couple of shows while I am here!
