Agility/obedience/dog Sports In Brisbane
Elise+Hudson replied to Elise+Hudson's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Sorry to bump this up again, but I was wondering if any Brissy locals have suggestions for private agility or obedience training? I am super keen to really get things moving this year towards our first trials in CCD, Rally and Agility.. and sadly have no backyard to set up any training exercises in! Currently still going to BAD and having an absolute ball, I cannot wait to go back this year. It's the funniest thing, but for whatever reason Hudson is SO well behaved there compared with anywhere else we have gone in the past! :D -

Hey guys I am looking for some online resources for 1 jump games, or small space exercises? I have a severely limited area in the new backyard and I am looking for something to keep Huddy interested between 2x2 weave sessions - he gets bored of these very fast, so I want to make sure I keep switching it up for him! -
I have a Giant Rove 2 that I got last year.. It is a fantastic bike and I have enjoyed riding it so far. :)

I am hoping to have my boy ready for JD or even AD (aka. no running off course) Would be great as it is so close!! -
Hudson and I started our training today, 3km at show pace or maybe a tad quicker (need to get the speedo in my bike up and running!). He was ready to go again! HR was still normal at the end, so I am so happy! I think we are going to enjoy preparing for this, we will be able to do quite a bit of distance by the time the trial comes around!

Just dying waiting for training to go back for the year! I have missed it so much! Sadly my backyard where i am living at the moment is too small for much more than a single jump or two sets of 2x2 weaves! Hudson was improving so much last year, can't wait! -

I hope so! I just got home and had the BEST mini tug/drive session EVER with Hudson! Only very short, as I am so close to just passing out - glad I made it home in one piece! 36+ hours is just too long to be awake in one go.. I hope I can retain some of the info and put it into practice + definitely will be looking to do further work with Steve in training in drive. So much sounded just like he was talking about Hudson! haha -

I will be there - minus Huddy :) Oh and just for Saturday too, have to work on Sunday sadly! -
As far as I was aware part of the compound in Scalibor was a toxin to fish and other aquatic life. Could be wrong, have not put mine on Hudson yet.

Have just been to our 2nd obedience class at Logan tonight, actually really enjoying it despite my concerns to begin with. There are certainly things about it I wish I could change, but I think once we get up to the higher levels that will improve. Sadly so many people don't understand about giving other dogs space - particularly when they are trying to learn! The number of times we had another dog actually touch Huddy tonight while we were heeling was crazy! But the best thing about it, is that Huddy was AMAZING! He actually concentrated on me and while we were working (not so much with just listening to instructor) he was completely ignoring the other dogs. So happy with him. He is starting to look up at me as well while heeling which is great! We will have a lot of work to do with getting his sits straight, and getting him to work closer, but given this is just a start - I am sure we will get there. :D -

I actually found recallers to be quite difficult on my own trying to play any of the recall games. I will have to try again next round I think.. We went to Queensland Agility and Jumping Dog Club last night at Durack and had a GREAT time! The instructor was really patient with me and the other new member yesterday (who also seemed to have a great time!) We did not come off lead of course, but when Hudson was working - through the tunnel and the tire/hoop and I did have to let go of the lead, he came straight back to me and was very focused! When just standing waiting he was his normal crazy self spinning little circles on his lead, but I was very happy with how he acted when it was our turn to do anything, so its a step forward for us for sure! Oh, he also took a tumble off the end of the dog walk - we were trying to lure him with food... well, Hudson thought he knew better (he already quite happily runs the dog walk) and he looked over at me to go "Mum, get out of my road!" because I was slowing him down and oops, off go the back legs! (we were almost at the contact so no harm done) needless to say the next time we didn't try to lure him.. cheeky boy! We might be being placed in a different group next time, but have to miss next week due to work. I am so glad to finally have a good experience with a club! Hopeful that BAD works out as well, waiting patiently for the break to be over! :D -
Sad I missed entries on this one..

I have been thinking that - it's just an odd one, he is SO food motivated on a day to day basis and is usually quite focused on me. But in an agility situation it's like his brain just goes and I could have a steak in front of his face and he would simply find a way to get around it to look at the other dogs. I am going to have a good think about this and what to do next. I know I was having too much emotion involved, but I have been so excited to start training here - I just moved back and don't have anything else to look forward to right now. :) Its frustrating but somehow we will figure it out. -

Sadly I have to work tomorrow or I would come along and watch with you. I know he is a smart dog and can learn, but its frustrating when I know he has it in him - but he was being downright naughty and not listening to me. -

I might see if I can get to Durack to check it out next week. Redlands was great, but I think I might need something a little more formal until Hudson starts respecting me a bit more and not so inclined to take off doing zoomies. On that note - anyone know a really good trainer in the Brisbane/Gold Coast area - will travel if need be. I desperately need to fix this recall and get some respect from him. Tonight the other people noted he just is constantly looking at everything else + not at me like he should be. I have tried to do the Recallers course but found it difficult without another helper. Getting discouraged. -

Well we went, and it seems like a great group of people there.. but Hudson was SO naughty.. he ran off twice just doing zoomies so he had to stay on the lead the whole time, but he was just being so frustrating ignoring me tonight. I know he gets excited.. but yeah They had a novice course set up and he went brilliantly the first bit before zooming off! I think that is what frustrates me the most is I think he will be great one day if I can ever get his focus on me + the obstacles and not everything else going on. -

I will be going to Redlands tonight :) The organisers never got back to me from Durack, and Redlands have been great fitting around my work so far - so will see how things go there! -

Sadly my work has changed yet again! So I am not able to bring Huddy to BAD next week, but will be there the week after with bells on! Still thinking of coming along on Tuesday next week just to watch how things work with the higher levels. :) -
Trying to pay of student loans... :p I am fairly sure I could have earned as much dog walking as I have in the past 2 and a half years as a vet. But that is beside the point. I find it very odd that you would question my skills as a vet because I chose to do something that was not being a vet. Its like saying a doctor who does volunteer work in their spare time is not a good doctor? I just find that a little odd. Anyhow, it was all only ideas at this stage and thought I would see what people thought. :)
