Hudson has been such a good boy, and I just love having him here! We were working on sit + down stays today. He will let me walk away approx 5m and will sit for 30 seconds before I call him, he is also starting to learn the sit at recall which is lovely! I never thought I would like obedience, but I am having fun teaching some basics.. I think we will be a year or so off actually trialing (if I have a go at all!). We start our Basic Manners course on Tuesday :D This is the next step up from puppy preschool, and I am hoping it will help with Hudson and training under distraction. He is great at home, but bring in people or dogs! :p

Did you feed it with a meal? If it is not given with food it may well only be lasting you 2 weeks, comfortis on an empty stomach is proven to have a much decreased efficacy.

The surgery to removal anal glands is a big procedure and does have risks, so definitely at least try other options before going to this. Poor bub! I remember when I first met him Huntia, unfortunately not under the best of circumstances! :D Usually anal glands can be brought under control with antibiotics, anti-inflammatories and regular expressing until the swelling/inflammation calms down. Then diet and possibly regular expressing can keep things under control. (expressing them when they are non-painful is usually not a big deal at all for most dogs, I have many I do on a weekly to monthly basis). I hope you can get things sorted soon!

I have been lucky enough to handle a couple of other dogs now in the ring, I feel lucky to be able to do this, it's great experience! I even handled a collie rough to reserve bitch challenge last weekend which was fantastic!

Affirmation I did see you win the RUBIG with your bulldog! I was in my gazebo right beside the ring. :D Hudson ended up coming home with a 1st and 3rd in Sweepstakes, Baby of Breed + 2 x Baby in Group! I was over the moon with him, and he even won himself a new bed! He has quite a haul of ribbons now after just a few outings!

I would scrap the weetbix and puppy milk, it's not necessary and won't be giving her the nutrients she needs. I would go with either just dry, or dry and meat mix. It's hard to know exact quantities as all dogs are different, just adjust until you get the condition which is right for her.

Kelpie (Hinde/Dickinson) went on to BIS, RUBIS was the mini longhair dachshund (Stevens). Thanks for the congratulations guys! I am so proud to have such a great little puppy, now he has just turned 4 months I feel like another group win is a possibility one day. I love seeing the results in this thread

Oh good, I was starting to wonder about numbers what about the start time on fri? Oh I hope its not too wet, Hudson hates it, and after Bathurst it can be just plain miserable sometimes! Considering how little rain we have had up till now!

There immunization last somewhere between 6 and 14 weeks generally, but depends on the dog and their level of immunity, so you would have pups which might be vulnerable to infection. If this was parvo, pup might have been infected anywhere between 7 and 16 days before it began showing signs, so I'd still be very careful. Best to also get some good disinfectant as parvo is hard to kill. F10 is what we use in the clinic, but this needs long contact time, but I think that would be the best idea to try and clean what you can, obviously the yard is all but impossible.

Without testing it's hard to know for sure, but I'd say 99% positive this little pup had parvo. I have diagnosed at least 4 in the past week, there is alot around. Vomiting and lethargy come well before the diarrhea in most cases, and they can even die in treatment without diarrhea due to vomiting alone. I'd be really careful, and any new pups I would not take into this infected environment until they are fully vaccinated + 2 weeks to be safe. Vaccinated dogs should be fine, but they can carry it on them and spread it. It can live for up to 10 years in some environments, so this is something you will have to think about for a long time.

I will be camping, I will probably go over thursday night to get a spot and get set up. Oh I hope it's not too miserable or windy, my gazebo almost got blown away at Hillsborough a few weeks ago. Will try and find you at some point over the weekend. I'll be near group 5 with my pup, navy gazebo and green tent.

I think I might have to get a Tuffie for Hudson, caught him playing madly with his soft giraffe in the backyard.. although he now only has one leg! hehe

I might try and do that then, thanks guys

Mystiqview - I undertand the Proheart SR12 is not for every dog, similarly with the annual vaccines compared with the 3 yearly protocol. From my point of view as a vet who sees the 'average' pet owner most commonly, it is nice to be able to at least do a general check every 12 months as a minimum. :D

Oh fair enough It is only quite a small spot, is it possible to buy black chalk? (I am so new to this sorry!)
-
Great photos of him!! :D

Yes I was advised by someone to use it on one spot which is not quite right at the moment, it is growing out with his adult coat, but won't be gone for a few months yet. I wasn't really planning on using one on his tan, although I have seen someone use one for this. I mostly just need to fix this one black spot for the next few months till it grows out properly.

I was so excited to see that on facebook Beth! Lottie is such a star! I am trying to start teaching hudson some more obedience like tricks. Obvisouly we are starting right from the start, stand, sit + drop and a kind of heel. Because he has been learning sit now, he is sitting whenever he is trying to be good and we are losing the stand a little. Fortunately he has still been standing well in the show ring, but we need to work on the difference between stand and sit at home/training.

Hey guys, I am just about to order a Chris Stix in black to use on some of the merle spots on my little guy, although I was thinking I might as well order a tan one for his face for when he gets a bit older. Seeing as it seems silly to order one and pay more for postage! The tan on the website seem quite pale though? Is there anyone who has used these that might know the best colour suitable for the tan points on my baby Aussie?

I live in a high parvo area here unfortunately, but I have never seen a pup which was vaccinated at 12+ weeks come back with parvo, only those who have the 6-8 week and never have another. There is a 3 yearly core vaccine which is advocated by the AVA, this requires a slightly different vaccine which is registered for this purpose. We did not use this protocol in our practice, we have been sticking with the yearly vaccinations. I think yearly is great from a vets perspective, as many dog owners (unlike the majority who use this forum) that would never bring the dog into the vet unless it is due for needles, so we miss 3 years of health checks with an owner like that. Also a good way of trying to get heartworm protection done too, as we can use the yearly proheart needle in these dogs. I will be using yearly vaccines with Hudson, but he will also be getting the kennel cough vacc, and this is still required yearly. But we were taught about the 3 yearly vaccines at university, and by all studies they are effective.

We do not use the 16 week shot in the practice where I work, unless the pup is going into a known parvo infected yard, or is otherwise at a higher risk. All normal puppies, 12 week finish. :D

A little early I know, but sitting here this weekend with no show to go to has got me excited already! Who else is going to be there? I will be doing my best to try and meet some more people this time! Hopefully the weather will be better than it has been the last few weekends. :D Is it usually a reasonable sized show? I have never been before, but it is nice and close for me (relatively anyway!).

I am hoping I might be able to make a trip to watch! :D Hudson won't be old enough to have a go yet.
