  1. Aw hes beautiful. Love the pic with him and the other dogs. hows he going finding a new home
  2. Thanks everyone it was such a lovely suprise i didnt even know they had called us lol. Congrats to the spotted devil too on your acievement. sashas reward is we are now down the beach. you wouldnt know she had ribbons when she decided to run off after a person and their lab on the beach as she had to say hi. gosh i was crossed. but its so windy here and i dont know if she just couldnt hear me or was ignoring me. so much for her recall. i hate it when its windy i swear she goes nutty
  3. Ok my little brag of my girl sasha. after only deciding this morning that we would do the exam after some convincing from other people in my class who just said it could just be another practice session for her. i wasnt going to try as my confidence level was so low with our instructor putting us down and last week pretty much saying that we wouldnt pass as she thought my girl wasnt very good i just went and thought of it as additional practice. got the shock of my life when we were called in third place. i didnt even hear it till others told me our name had been called lol. i just assumed we passed so went to get the certificate when i was handed a ribbon. it was such an awful windy day.Sasha heeling was pretty good which we thought we would fail at, her targeting was brillant considering the target got picked up by the wind, she still went for it and managed to get it on the ground to target it. her sit stays and drop stays were excellent considering that we had a huge distraction of the club doing an agility and flyball demo. she was one of two dogs that didnt break. All the others got up. so we have now completed the transition course and can participate in novice trial or primary companion. im thinking of primary companion but does anyone have any experience that could tell me what you do? im soo suprised and proud you would think we got first place but its just exciting as i honestly wasnt going to bother today. just went to support others in the class
  4. I don't know if you have done this and I don't know if it still exists but there use to be a german shepherd rescue in Canberra as I once looked at getting a dog from them. Do you have a poster or something I could add to my facebook page to get the word out. I also have a friend that works at the RSPCA here and she might have some contacts to help out this girl. I can't make any promises but it seems so sad that this girl is in this situation with owners who don't know how to walk her.
  5. Omg this made me cry. such a beautiful story. your son and her look like the best of friends. thankyou for saving her
  6. I just wanted to say you are all amazing for helping this girl out. i hope she finds her forever home soon. she looks so happy in the pics you took. like shes had the best day of her life. you are all truly amazing. any news on a foster home?
  7. So many but one of them was when sasha picked me to be her new mum. being in a pound enviroment then foster carers where i met her she has always been soo happy. when i met her she winked at me and i knew no matter what we belonged. also the first time i took her to the beach, the day the sprinklers turned on at dog school and last weekend at our photoshoot. ok lets just say everyday lol
  8. Gah im loving it still reading but man the part with smokey the cat getting bailey in trouble is soo funny
  9. ohhh I have it and am about to read it now. Wow I"m excited judging by the reviews.
  10. OH I know this senario well as I have the same problem with my labrador LOL. Basically she has to sit and wait in the car before I will open it to let her out. Every time i open and she moves then I slowly close the door and make her wait. She now understands that if she doesn't sit and wait for me to remove her seatbelt calmly then she won't be getting to class any quicker. After I let her out, she NEEDS to have focus on me. Usually treats like a little bit of chicken or cabanossi or something else that has a smell works quite well. We then start to walk to the club house so I can get her card. Every time she pulls, we stop and she has to have focus on me before we walk again. She's aloud to walk provided she's not dragging me. This can be quite a process though as she is SUPER excited seeing all the dogs. With the focus work try getting her to sit or drop or give her some kind of command. What treats are you using at the moment? For this sort of stuff I need to give my girl a high value treat. Also she is NOT feed before class on training days at school. So on Sunday's we go but she hasn't eaten breakfast so she's more willing for food. I wouldn't ignore it completely as she will learn to ignore you and just think she can go and play with all the other dogs with no consequences. For my girl teaching her self control has been challenging at the best of times. We have our good and bad days. For dogs, going to school is like a huge party. New smells, lots of other dogs and everything is more interesting than you LOL. I'm no expert or anything but I have found this has helped my girl. I"m practicing NOthing in life is free with her. So if she wants to go to school ( well get out of the car at least LOL ) she needs to sit nicely and WAIT till I tell her she can come out. Pulling me all the way to the club house doesn't work. The longer she does it, the longer we don't get there. Also try getting there a bit early so she can calm down a bit. Hope this helps you a bit. :-). Good luck with it. Labs are GREAT FUN.
  11. I"m glad to hear how well you are doing with him. Its just amazing what you have achieved with him. How did you go with the trainer??
  12. sooo beautiful. Can we print this?? I LOVE LOVE LOVE this. Made me cry though
  13. Well good luck with your assessment, if they haven't contacted you make sure you contact them again, most of the program is run by volunteers and they can get very busy especially at this time of year. As far as tips go I think if your dog is friendly and has general obedience you should be fine, the assessment was easy although in saying that I know of a lady who's dog didn't pass due to the dog being too friendly and even though she is obedience trained she was just too over the top. They don't allow harnesses of any sort for the assessment. I remember how worried I was that my girls wouldn't pass but afterwards I could see that there was never any doubt. and whats the worst that can happen, just try again next time. My dogs are all Cocker Spaniel x Poodle Thanks I will try to contact them again. I know there is only one person I just don't want to annoy them is all LOL> Sasha is friendly and does have obedience but I"m worried that she might be too happy and excitable sometimes I"m just not to sure although I suppose I'll never know unless I tryl. She could end up suprising me. LOL> Sasha isn't using any harness anymore but I will just see what happens. What made you get involved in this if you don't mind me asking? You can pm me if you like. Your dogs are ALL sooo stunning.
  14. Also what breed are yoyr dogs? they are beautiful
  15. Wow great pics and thanks for sharing. i have been working hard at obedience as this is what i want to do with sasha. sounds like sasha might be like lacey lol. Contacted delta a while ago and they said the next round in my area would be in nov or dec so im waiting to hear back. i really hope we do get accepted though as i think its a fantastic thing and i know how an animal can brighten up your day. do you have any tips on things that i could work on to prepare my dog overall?
  16. no im not a member. what do i need to do to become one? would be helpful though. im going to tomakin in early dec with my girl for some beach time yay
  17. hehee my little miss has the same clam shell pool. She's funny though cause in her clam shell pool she will stand in it but won't lay down or play with the water in it. Its only at the beach or a lake where there's a lot more water for her to swim in that she will get right into it.
  18. Was this pic from yesterday?? I might take her down to Grevilea park next time.
  19. thanks everyone. Took my girl out yesterday. That is the TAMS website I was on but I don't think it is particularly very helpful. I did find this map though and thought it is a bit better. It marks where dogs are allowed. http://www.nationalcapital.gov.au/enjoythelake/map.asp
  20. Wow Lucky I got one today from my local Petstock but it was only 50% but still a good deal I think. Must say the little miss looks so darn cute in it. I few dogs had them on today at school as it was raining a little. I should have bought it before class but meh all good. I couldn't go past the price.
  21. So I just rang TAMS, sheese they really need to make things more clear for us. She said provided there is no signage then I shouldn't have any problems taking my girl out there. If there is signage ( that says no dogs allowed) obviously I can't. She said she couldn't find anything signage being there so we "should be ok". I seriously think they need to make things ALOT more clear or actually have a properly list of where our dogs are allowed. I am also not particularly happy with the maps of offleash/on-lead areas. I have checked it and have asked other owners to check it and we are all in agreement where we can have our dogs on-lead and off-lead but seriously if you need a group to decipher a map then that's pretty sad. I mean we are all trying to do the right thing here but it doesn't help us if the people working there can't explain it to us. Yes I saw that about Point Hut, might try the yacht club as it's a bit closer and see how I go. Thanks for your help though.
  22. Thanks so much. Am going to give them a call now. Its just way too hot and while she's been in her pool I know she would appreciate a proper swim
  23. Hi Everyone, This will probably apply to those in Canberra but does anyone know where abouts at Lake Burley Griffin I can take my dog for a swim? Or if we are even alloud to take them now? I looked it up and it does say you can take your dog for a swim there but I'm at a loss as to where exactly? I've seen pics of people taking their dogs (where there is a bit of sand) but can't find the place. Any Canberra Doler's got any ideas?? While she has her little swimming pool outside I think she'd much rather go for a swim in this heat.
  24. How old is he again? it could be a dominance thing. hes trying to show ziggy he is the boss
