  1. What time do you usually go? Wondering if maybe Sasha and I could maybe come if we are free
  2. Just got back from my 4 days away with my Labrador. We went to the South Coast NSW and stayed at Tomakin which has a 24 hour lease free beach. The house was like 2 mins away from the beach. I accidently met the owners Michele and Glen who are sooo nice. The house truly is a home away from home. Its by far the best place I've ever stayed with my dog and I will be going back in December ( have already booked this) but possibly before then cause I loved it so much. The house is well furnished, well stocked with games, heaps of dvds, you don't need to bring any linen as it's all provided. You just need to bring your dogs bedding. Dogs are allowed in the house and are not restricted to just the laundry or outside. The place is also fully fenced and has a single car garage but plently of room for more cars. There are 3 bedrooms, 2 of them with queen sized beds and 1 with two single beds. There is also supplies if you have a baby. They have dog bowls provided and spare leashes and dog towels. I know I will only be staying at these owner's places when I go down the the south coast. Here is the web address if anyone is interested. I will post some pics of Sasha there tommorrow. :-) http://wagsawaypetholidays.com.au/index.html
  3. I use cabanossi, cheese, liver treats, kangaroo treats, bacon bits. Stuff that you can break easily or break into little pieces. My Labrador does like apples, pear and carrot so I cut them up before I go to class. Fingers crossed that she passes the beginners course next weekend. And remember to monitor the food intake of your puppy.
  4. Hi, I'm glad your obedience training is going well. Sasha has also started obedience training to so it's nice to see another newbie having a similar experience to me. I do the same thing with Sasha practising a couple times a day in short bursts. When I walk Sasha in the morning she is in a harness and when I go to dog school she has to be in the harness still as she is still a bit of a puller. Maybe ask the trainer in your class the next time you go about walking them together or separately. Wish me luck, we have class tommorrow.
  5. The power of counter-conditioning. I've also been having this problem recently with my lab. I have tried to show her that she can only say hello to another dog if she first sits and looks at me and only if I check with the owner first. I think she is mainly reactive to them on lead and occassionaly she will play up and bark. If she is off the lead, there hasn't been any issues. I might try walking with her and not letting her say hello to any other dogs. I have been doing that more often lately but I might try this technique more often and see if that helps. I think she thinks that she should be allowed to say hello to every dog. While I don't let her do this all the time, I probably let her say hello more often then not ( but only when she is calm). When I do see another dog coming our way or across the street I do get her to sit, or go down and focus on me. She's just started obedience training so I suppose it is a work in progress but I think this thread has been helpful to me so thanks for all the ideas.
  6. Thanks wuffles I did go to class today and got some clarification on what we should be doing. I was just worried that Sasha wouldn't pass the exam and the end of the term if I was using the wrong hand signals. I will keep trying.
  7. I don't think you'll find diagrams of them, and even then, it may be hard to understand. The best thing to do is watch some obedience trial videos on youtube for hand signals Thanks so much I will look it up on you tube. Just a new member and have just started training with my labrador. BTW your dogs in your banner are gorgeous.
  8. I am wondering about this too. Does anyone know of a flyer, pamphlet, diagram that shows some of the hand signals? I have been taking my dog to obedience classes but find that sometimes I forgot which hand signals are which. I did ask the instructor if he had diagrams of them ( I am more visual when it comes to these things) but he said no. I have been looking it up on google but have only found they describe the action ( no diagrams). If anyone knows where I could get them, I'd be so grateful
