Check out inhousepharmacy.com. They are in the usa, and have pet meds as well as human meds. I was buying Vetmedin for my boy from them, much cheaper than from my vet, and no script needed. It was not a generic brand either, but the genuine one.

Hannah I am so sorry. RIP Maggie - Moo

Basil passed away at 4pm this afternoon.

I am just back from the vet, and the news is not good. Basil's heart valve is leaking a lot more and now the other one is leaking too. He is staying there today, so they can monitor him, do oxygen sat tests etc. He has an appointment with a heart specialist tomorrow morning. Depending on what or if they can do anything else for him, I may be making that very tough decision tomorrow. I will not allow him to suffer.

Basil would like to thank everyone for his get well wishes. I have an appointment at 10.45 this morning for him. There has been no change in him since yesterday. I will post the vets findings when I get home.

thank you so much Hogz, I have just decided I am not going in to work at the usual time tomorrow. I normally start at 7am, but have just rung my boss and told him I will wait for my vet to open and try and get Basil in earlier. I am very lucky they are ok with that, too bad if they weren't, I would do it anyway. He ate his dinner with gusto tonight, so that is good, but would only worry about him while i was at work, so would rather get him seen before i go to work.

Thank you Daccies, but unfortunately if the valve is leaking more, there is nothing they can do.

Thank you

My boy Basil hasn't been at all well the last couple of days. He has a leaking valve, graded severe 6 months ago, and has been on heart meds for a few months now. He has been doing great up until Friday night. He developed a cough during the night, and was no better by morning, so I gave him an extra fluid tablet. That seemed to work, the coughing stopped, but he is just not himself. He has also lost some of his appetite which is so unlike him. I suspect the leak has got worse. I know it will, it's just a matter of when. Please keep him in your thoughts.

Angelina, your vet sounds like she knows what she is doing. I have dachshunds so am very familiar with treatment for disc problems. Yes, steroids will reduce the swelling around the spinal cord, but he must be crated while he is on these. They will make him feel better and he will probably want to run around. DO NOT let him, he will do more damage. Keep him crated and carry him outside to toilet and have him on lead so he can't wander off. Also start him on Vitamin C if you haven't already done so. There has been a lot of research done on Vitamin C and disc problems in dogs and it does work. In fact my older boy has been down 3 times and each time he has returned to normal with steroids, vitamin c and 8 weeks crate rest. I wish you well with him and feel free to pm me if you want.

Where Is The Cheapest Place To Buy A Dremel From?
longdogs replied to Chocolate's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I got mine from Super Cheap about 3 years ago for $39.95. It has done 7 dogs weekly and is still going strong. I am pretty sure they still have them. It is called "Superworks Rotary Tool Kit" It comes in a hard plastic case with heaps of attachments, but only use the sanding discs for dogs nails. It has 10 speeds but I find #2 is plenty fast enough for dachshund nails. It also comes with a stand for hanging the dremel, then it has an extension hose thingy with the sanding disc on the end, so the motor noise is away from the dogs, and it is much easier to manouvre. I love it and wouldn't be without it, I do 126 nails per week in about 15 minutes, and it gives a much better finish than nail clippers. All but 2 of my dogs sleep now while I am doing their nails. -
Vetmedin And Flusapex - Left Overs.
longdogs replied to wizard1's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Wizard what about instead of giving such expensive meds away for free that instead you request a donation to rescue. Just a suggestion  They can either send the donation to you directly or to your rescue of choice and you send the goods when the rescue confirms they have the $$. I'm a bit cranky today so I will add that I've seen in the buy/sell forum that some people who we know are in full time employment and have OH's who are also employed will quickly jump onto anything that's put up for free. I think these folk should be prepared to pay something for whatever is on offer and it helps rescue. I would be more than happy to donate to rescue. Just as an aside I live on my own, no oh and have a part time job, I also am on heart meds which enable me to work part time -
Vetmedin And Flusapex - Left Overs.

I jumped when I saw your post I have a 10 yr old dachie on both those meds. I would love the flusaplex but my boy takes the 2.5mg vetmedin 2x daily. Where are you? I am in Brisbane. Sorry, just reread and realised you are in nsw -
My friend spent Christmas day at her daughters house. When she came home, she opened the door to let the dogs inside the house. Two came in, one didn't. My friend found her in her favourite spot. She had passed away. She went peacefully, just looked like she was asleep. She was the daughter of one of my boys and only 10 years old. Maybe it was a heart attack, her dad has a genetic heart problem, and before anyone flames me, I didn't know about Basil's heart before he was used at stud. RIP "Glitter" aka Galetta All Glitter

Quick Quesion About Feeding Offal
longdogs replied to Jean26's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I feed a barf diet and give my dogs one meal per week of just raw offal[ liver kidneys and heart]. They love it but I wouldn't feed it more than once a week. If you have never fed offal before it might be wise to just add a little to their normal meal, then increase over time. -
my guys get raw offal once a week, liver, kidney and heart and sometimes tongue

Congratulations on your decision to go totally barf, you won't be sorry. I have fed totally barf for quite a few years now. Every 2nd evening they get a meat mix meal which consists of the following:- 50% raw minced meat( chicken, beef, lamb, either or a combination of. 50% crushed raw vegetables and fruit( anything except onions) I use a juicer to process the fruit and veg, and use both the pulp and veg. If you don't have a juicer you can process them in a food processor till they are as finely chopped as you can get them. To this I add a small amount of crushed garlic, brewers yeast, kelp, cold pressed extra virgin oil, cod liver oil, flaxseed meal or oil. Mix everything together thoroughly. I make up a big batch of this on a weekend then freeze in meal size portions. I ad vitamin E when I serve their meals as it is not known whether vit. e can survive freezing They get this meal every 2nd evening. The following is an 8 day meals plan that I feed my dogs:- Day 1 - Meat mix. Day 2 - Raw whole fish with only the scales and fins removed. Day 3 - As for day 1. Day 4 - Cottage cheese followed by a milkshake of raw honey, eggs and skim milk. Day 5 - As for day 1. Day 6 - Raw offal, (liver, kidneys, heart, brains, whatever I can get at a decent price) Day 7 - As for day 1. Day 8 - Raw lamb flaps. After every meal they also get raw chicken wing(s) or necks. These meals are for adults, slight changes are needed for young puppies and bitches in whelp or lactating. I hope this is of some help to you.
