  1. Argh! I can see them but no-one else can ... perhaps he's a ghost!
  2. Has this worked? Is there a picture above this?
  3. okay, working on pics now. Not quite sure how it works.
  4. I think you may have nailed it! I'm about to post some photo's but when you mentioned no nose role I realised - no, he doesn't have any skin roll over his nose and if he did he would have a 'flat' face. I am just putting the picks up now.
  5. It's not important, by no means meant to imply that it was. It is purely curiosity. As I said, he is a pound puppy who has us guessing, and as his owners we are just interested. When we take him out, it's endless ... "oh, what a lovely pug .. oh hang on, he's very big for a pug - what is he". I suppose we would just like to be able, with certainty to say "he's a ......" He's still lovely - won't make any difference to us what he is, we are just interested to know
  6. I was looking at this kit http://www.gtglabs.com/bitsa/ Is this a waste of time/money? Perhaps I'll ask the vet for recommendations as well.
  7. For no other reason than pure curiosity ... we are thinking of DNA testing the pug! We adopted Max over a year ago from the pound. 3 vets have told me he is 100% pug. Jury's out for me. He is big .... very big for pug. And he has a longer nose - no squish face for him. When we are at Pugwood ... and he runs with pugs ... we have a hard time spotting him .. he stand beautifully, has a gorgeous curl to his tail, colouring is lovely - he's just bloody tall and not flat faced. So, we are going to DNA him - has anyone done this before? I've found a site that we can order the kit online and send it to them - or should I do it through our vet? Any experiences anyone? Oh, and personality - he's pug all the way I will post a photo shortly
  8. By the way welcome to DOL, this has been an entertaining thread! Have you got any pics of your boy? I do have some pics and when I'm finished rousing on my non-hairy AND hairy child for making messes in every single room of the house while I have been a neglectful parent on here, I shall post them
  9. I know! It was a really simple question .... but it had potential to get quite heated. I got my answers, and that's great. Thanks to everyone who offered advice, and reassurance that he's not a crazed, pug-I gone-wild, attack dog. I will keep you updated with our progress, or alternatives
  10. *properly hahahahaha That's called Kamah!! or is it called Karma ??
  11. far out ..... don't check my grammer or spelling .... I would fail big time
  12. Goodness no. As much as I would love to be, and perhaps when my non-hairy children are older, but little puggy pets suit us down to the ground for now.
  13. Can I ask, is Max's reaction to these dogs "normal" or should he be taught to tolerate them? I'm just worried that he is the one with the problem, not them, iykwim. I also suggest dont go to that park anymore....stick to Pugwood. Max is reacting like a typical Pug, and if you put him in that situation too often he could be asking for a fight. You have to remember that Max thinks he is as big as a Rotti and he will stand up for himself if pushed too far by a big dog. Somehow I doubt that. Max tried to remove himself from these dogs. He couldn't. If flight wasn't an option, he didn't have many others.. So now you claim to know more than I do about my breed. Are you serious with that comment. My Pugs certainly don't think they are big Rottweilers and they will not all stand up for themselves if pushed.... and if want to talk experience Shazza...... Obviously the OP knows their own Pug. Shazzapug ... I know what you are saying "multum in parvo" - big dog in little body. Max is not scared of big dogs ... he runs up to them all macho and sniff sniff. And once he's sniffed, he moved on .... but he was definitely intimidated by these bigger dogs and he definitely took the 'fight' option because he had tried flight and it didn't work for him. He's not our first pug (and more certainly won't be our last .. I could easily become the crazy pug lady if left to my own devices, hubby keeps that in check!) and I do get his personality and nature ..... he doesn't like to have dogs right in his face.
  14. Watching 3 dogs stand over him is just asking for trouble and sorry to say but not very responsible behaiviour by you either. Ummm, I picked him up within seconds of him being surrounded by 3 dogs and removed him from the park so perhaps ask what my reaction was before you call me irresponsible. You didnt state that in your post as you had time to give the owners of the 3 dogs lip! I didn't talk to them, I picked him up and left - what I meant by what I typed above was WHAT IF I say 'move your dogs along because Max doesn't like it ......" and they respond with ...... I would never leave him intentionally feeling threatened or intimidated ... and when he has reacted I have put his lead on and removed him to either another area still on lead or from the park completely.

  16. and that's why I never let the children walk Max when there are other dogs around - he may be a pug, but he's a big, solid boy (very big for his breed) and let some adrenline kick in and he'd pull even my biggest child along! Rule at our house, dogs are not toys. They have to be taught, they have to be handled. Even the little, puggy ones. And I've got an 8 year old daughter who thinks she's a pug and lets this dog dominate her and oh, that's a whole other thread ...
  17. If you notice him displaying this this of behaviour 5 minutes is way too long, you sound like you have good instincts use them. Some people just do not understand dogs body language, she says "oh she won't hurt him" but Max is intimidated and left alone he coudl hurt her, people can be stupid especially when it comes to dogs. I would say No he wouldn't be in trouble if he bit another dog at an off leash dog park because thats is the type of risk you take going to these parks. And it is not like he is going up to other dogs looking for an picking fights, he just wants to do his own thing. You have to be the judge of whats right and wrong for him. I don't agree with the dogs will sort it out analogy, Dogs left to sort things out can result in serious injuries and worse. That is EXACTLY what I said to one lady "she many not hurt him but I don't trust he won't hurt her". Perhaps pugs just don't look vicious enough when they are cranky, or the owners of the bigger dogs just think that theirs will always win and so don't bother ... dunno, but Max scared the hell out of me with his big scary pug teeth!
  18. You're fighting an uphill battle against ignorance and stupidity. Retreat. You won't win. Thanks I read that too quickly and thought it was an uphill battle against MY ignorance and stupidity ... then I re-read it You're right. I need to protect my dog, and not expect others to read his signs. My main worry was that he was reacting inappropriately and I would fix that problem if I could .... but on reflection I can't stop him from being intimidated when big dogs get too boisterous and stand over him. Poor guy. I did like that he stood up for himself, but man I made my heart pound because I was worried that someone would get hurt And I could see how quickly situations like that can turn awful.
