Good luck with that. Most of space is full sunlight, especially on the way to Venus. Its only dark in a planet's shadow. :D

Just Found A Dead Rat In The Backyard...
Tralee replied to pipsqueak's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Well if I ever need to leave my dogs with someone again Ill be dropping them off at your place. Very sharp eyes, a measured response, and your diligent approach assures me your dogs will be fine because if they show signs of poisoning they will have veterinary care in more than adequate time. So, would you like to go on our 'good puppy home', Maremma list. :D Px -
When we moved in here, the dogs were going ballistic one afternoon. There was a guy on the other side of the fence and he started complaing about the dogs barking. He came back about a week later and began to yell out that it used to be a nice neighbourhood before I moved in. I followed him to talk with him but he walked away. Turns out he doesn't even live here, he only walks past occasionally, and if he did live here he could hardly miss the busses and trucks, with a whole lot of other cacophony, that is our nice neighborhood. I have an attention barker but she settles down and sleeps most of the day. I would ask, if the dog is barking, why isn't it sleeping when people are out? If the dogs allowed inside, then let it be with you while you're home, at night, etc. so the dog will be reassured that even if its owners have left, it won't be alone all the time. Px

Yes You ask those self-interested, dog neglecting creeps for their prefix and then explain that you don't cross-breed. You then advocate and promote pure bred dogs. If they want to listen explain the merits of a pedigree dog. But, it is not easy to persuade those people who have elevated themselves above our dogs, about how dogs cannot always speak for themselves. Sometimes people with pure bred dogs won't stick to the Code, or listen to wiser heads, either. Px

Hi pretty Miss Emma The first thing is to ask the people on the other side of the house or behind the house if they thought the dog had been 'nuisance' barking. That will put your mind at rest or give you an idea of what needs to be done. We have a dentist next door and I was ludky enough to catch the dental nurse leaving one afternoon and she said that you wouldn't know there were dogs here. Once I had a similar complaint and it turned out that a strange dog had been hanging around on the other side of the fence all day. There could be a similar reason if the dog was barking. If the dog is barking, then restrict it to an area where there is less visual stimulus. Try to leave as late as possible and arrive home as early as you can. Make a fuss about the dog, particularly when you return from being out, over this weekend so the dog will be reassured that even if its owners left it won't be alone on your workdays. Leave some music on in the house or some other auditory stimulus and sneek out the front of a morning. You will need to move your car up the street before hand. Good Luck :D

Definately. At one stage I was paying over $800 a week while waiting for a property. Dogs were in kennels, things were in storage and I was in a caravan park. For me, its not the renting that's an issue its the honesty. I think income is a consideration though because dogs are not cheap at times. Px

100 points of ID would be an issue. RS - Well maybe, but not for my dogs. I'll just use their 100 championship points. Title: Mr Mss Dr -none. Just Aust Ch will do nicely thankyou. :D Px

You can't open an account in a dogs name - that is a breach of international anti-money laundering laws Those laws are only designed to keep dogs out of high office. And if I had some money I wouldn't put it in the wash for a start. Px
-
Exactly, but its a bit like the story of the lazy servant. I think identifying our excesses and deficiencies will benefit the dogs. Px
-
Maybe. But I might be able to teach them to deposit their poker winnings. :D Px

Hi Dxenion. The account is in my name but when the cards arrive our prefix can be attached so it can be identified from our other debit cards. I also opened an account just for expenses occurred in earning a living. I never claim enough for work expenses and now that's something that the taxman will have to reckon with each year. Well they family might think debit cards are quizzical, but next year we are doing a 'build' for the dogs. :D Px
-
Hi All Well I went to the bank today and did a few things but we opened up an account for the dogs and asked for a debit card. What that means is that the account can be kept exclusively for expenditure on the dogs and then at the end of every financial year all book keeping and accounting has already been done and records have been kept by the bank. The advantages of that I think should be obvious. I am taking out health insurance on the dogs, something I should have done much sooner, so all vaccinations and annual health checks will go through the account too. Worming and flea treatment will also be funded from the account. New kennels, fences, the cost of showing the dogs, CCC subscriptions, website renewals will all be processed through the account. I really have no idea what the dogs cost per annum but with their own account I should get an accurate reflection of where excesses and deficiencies are occuring. Px

Hi Nadsi Getting the fence fixed is urgent. But there are usually plenty of volunteers. Px

Interesting. Nice idea.

Hi donatella. Hmmm. Now the most important consideration when requesting a puppy from a breeder, or getting a request for a puppy is the relationship between the two parties. The ability to correspond over the many years that will follow is paramount. The second consideration is why do they want a dog, etc. I would always advise someone to choose a breeder first and then a puppy. Choosing homes for puppies is always much trickier. I think Confuscius had the right idea. "In order to recognise an honest person, you must first yourself be honest." If I sense 'dishonesty' in the other party then the transaction is closed. It is coming up to 7 years since I sourced my first puppy in this round of dogs. I now have 4 dogs, have bred 4 litters, moved puppies interstate, exported overseas, titled two dogs, and have been renting throughout the whole saga. Go figure. Renting is not the issue. Its the relationship that matters. See our testimonials here. Testimonials With regards Px

Quite. You need to make a big fuss and an overly exagerated show of approval. Your dog is just a pup, and the language of a grown up from another species has to be pushed through the filters of 'doggy understanding.' You might give the puppy two whole minutes of attention but just 5 seconds gets registered. Px.

To what end? Anyone applying for a prefix is still blind to an affix believed to be registered by a canine controlling body in another country and risks being rejected. It seems the state CCC's are the only ones privy to the prefixes that are unavailable. Another question is what controls are in place to remove prefixes that have expired due to the five year limitation so as to not mislead people into thinking they are unavailable? Px
-
I think so. They are relevant to our dogs and can only add to their status. Two dogs back and I have these prefixes in my dogs pedigree:- Sognoerotica Loro Del Piana and Itl & Int Ch Pepitadoro Di Selvaspina We are also planning to use: Laperla and so the people the pups will be homed with can get some assurance from an easily accessed site without chasing all over the place. What do you think? Px

Hi ineedsleep Firstly, you won't get a full nights sleep with a new puppy for at least a couple of weeks. Here is an extract from our support page on my dogs website. House Training Young puppies should be taken out during the night as they don’t have the bladder control to hold on overnight until 14-16 weeks of age. So a few weeks of broken sleep will follow the arrival of a new puppy. Puppies will toilet after eating or drinking so take the puppy outside immediately after meals. Be patient and make a fuss of the puppy when its finished its business. Dogs also prefer to toilet on rough surfaces so take the puppy outside when it moves onto a carpet. Other signs to watch for are the tell-tale posture for evacuation. When the puppy assumes this position, it needs to go outside Dogs will not soil their den so the use of a crate to minimise inside accidents and train the puppy can be helpful. Set the crate up as a bed and this can then be used to put the puppy in when you can’t watch it or during the night while you are asleep. The crate could be the puppies bedroom if you like, where he can go when he wants to be left alone but it must not be used as punishment. Never scold a puppy for soiling inside. It will merely train them to soil inside when you are not watching. It is important to regularly take the puppy outside, reward soiling outside and minimise inside ‘accidents’. The puppy will then learn that it needs to go outside. It you catch your puppy soiling inside don’t scold it, but in a hurried voice pick the puppy up taking it outside saying ‘outside’ or whatever command you choose to instruct your puppy to go to the toilet. Then reward the puppy. With regards Px

Hi Hmmm, they're not legal. That's why they have dog ones - max 3 volts.. Regards Px NB Difficult post to make. I hope I've been diplomatic.

I don't doubt the effort that has been made, and don't want to be pretentious, as the majority of Maremma prefixes were provided by yours truly. But if an Australian offers an overseas prefix because it has appeared on a pedigree or may become part of a future pedigree then that pedigree could be verified in the database being compiled by SwaY There is no need to list every prefix from all over the world. Just the ones that australiam breeders may encouter. SwaY. Add the prefix Laperla Maremmana with the other Italian prefixes already there to the Maremma Sheepdog list please, so that my AI may be given some credulity. Tralee

The website is only for Australia Prefixes, they are Italian? What! Then what's the point? For someone searching for an unclaimed prefix, in order to apply for a new prefix, it may result in a duplication with an overseas prefix and will be rejected Pursuant to the Code of Ethics, Regulations, Part 1 and 1a, Register and Registration, I refer you to clause 11.3 (b) an application for a prefix may be rejected by Dogs NSW if: (ii) the word is identical with or deceptively similar to a previously registered prefix or an affix believed to be registered by a canine controlling body in another country. Regards Px

Hi SwaY You could add Donadoni's prefix:- Laperla Maremmana - into the Maremma Sheepdog list. World class, big beautiful dogs. Winner of Crufts BOB 2010 Px

Thanks DiscoDobe Nice avatar! The backdrop is the Goolmangar Valley from Koonorigan. Koonorigan is basically the ridge of a volcanic crater. The land on either side is all dreadful rock and slope. Behind the dogs is what I call 'a hole,' it looks nice but I got over living there so we packed up and left. Px

Hi Del678 It could be stress. Other thing could be is if pup has had any fresh meat or picked up some old meat. Might be food poisoning. Lastly, has pup had its vaccinations. Saturday means the pup is only 8ish weeks old. I don't want to be alarmist but I wouldn't wait till morning. Personally I tend to over react and always think the worst. Px
