  1. Hi. :) My thoughts exactly. Very bad PR. Although I don't know a lot about the subject. In this issue my concern is the critical attitude that someone's lack of poor judgment brings out of people. We then have two incidents of lack of poor judgment. Negative criticism is a circular argument. Personal criticisms are just intellectually dead. If you take a stance against some issue it needs to be accompanied by suggested alternatives. Some suggestions were proffered, however emotional retorts just elicit reflex replies. We need to keep in mind that the jury is always out and beyond our own selfish opinions lies the ability to see another persons point of view. Regards Px
  2. Yo'z gonna take a li'l ride, see. ;) When the number of dogs reaches three figures, we start to see princely sums. I don't know how many times I have to present the books  [4 dogs x feed (kibble, canned, fresh and bones weekly)] + (proportion of the rent and yard maintenance) + (proportion of the electric and water) + [(4 x 12 x flea and tick treatments + (4 x 4 worm treatments)] + (4 x yearly health check and vaccinations) + (cleaning equipment and chemicals) + (dog supplies - bowls, collars, leashes, braces, brushes, combs, shampoo) + (supply and maintain fences) + (unforseen veterinary treatments) + (puppy school, obedience, agility, dog shows) + (time, labour and transport) = minus infinity. And that's before any of them get a whiff of a mating. Add the income from puppies. Well, I need to calculate the cost of preparing the bitch, finding a sire, ..... Oh for the love of pete! Princely sums might be generated by commercial breeders but they should also have a princely expenditure This is the point. In the main, puppies are not bred for profit. Do we breed children to turn a quick dollar? The morality or ethics of large breeding concerns is another matter. Regards Px
  3. Thank-you Sheridan I am speechless. Beautiful dogs. Beautiful heritage. And a Kerry Beagle. WOW Thanks again Px
  4. Probably closer to the mark Rysup. Well you're both doing better than I am. I figure I'm about $5000 down every year. ;) So conservatively over seven years, ... erh anybody want to take my dogs. :D
  5. Steve In the final days, when legislation is handed down, and a consensus reached, breeding will be accounted for. The issue, I strongly agree, must include much greater and erudite nuancing of the acts that will be passed. Regards Px
  6. Thanks Steve. :) Another couple of peanuts from Kingaroy. They had one running the State not long ago. This is a good result and the Judges last reported comment would seem to contradict the finding and the action taken until we consider it in the context of "Beak of the Week." Judges often make erudite quips at the end of hearings that are designed to shock and stagger. Neglect is cruelty and the finacnces of the couple obviously do not support a defence economic neglect or ommission. Definately Guilty as charged. Px
  7. Theobromine in chocolate has a 'caffeine' effect in dogs and makes their heart race. Then the extreme blood pressure literally breaks their heart. The problem is, if they get a taste for it, and then get into some that is left lying around, the results are fatal. "Mum said chocolate is not good for dogs, but you can have my milk" :D
  8. Hi Lisey. :) Well there are issues and I'm surprised they weren't mentioned. Luggage gets priority over dogs so if you have a connecting flight at Sydney it means the dog may be held over. I had a dog held off two flights because there wasn't room. The dog finally arrived although it was 12 hours late. Generally though, animals are given excellent care and welfare officers check the animals between flights. I have had two dogs removed from crates because they were deemed to be too small (they weren't) and although I was extremely annoyed it is great to think that some serious incident would not go unnoticed. Regards Px
  9. Excuse me! Hello! Blind Freddy! Do you see what I see???
  10. Not many people know, but it has been researched thoroughly and documented professionally that the five senses are joined with another five to make ten senses in all. Balance is one of the others, just off the top of my head. So, the other senses are visceral (or internal organ)senses. The reference is obscure as I didn't save it but when it is recovered I will keep it. Px
  11. The dog's name might be Vincent ..... van Gogh
  12. What?? Americans think they can switch on Summer from a slot machine????
  13. Dogs (unspervised 24/7)and children, any age, do not mix! We need to make sure we promote the dictates of responsible ownership in clear, unambiguous and simple terms. So sad, so common. Px
  14. How happy would Tammy be now!!!! What a wonderful last two years! You are too much Cazstaff.
  15. Hi biker girl :) I guess you mean house names! Sookie after the blues standard 'Sookie Sookie.' Wyn'ja is a word play on winning at Show, a bit reggae and a fit with his kennel mate who is a sook, so he is a whinger. Flynch is a Celtic deriviative but falls in with the sook and the whinger. Lastly, Chalice because I was feeling a bit blood thirsty. Px
  16. Thank-you I can't describe what your story evokes but I collected one of my dogs from the Vet yet again yesterday. They are worth more than life itself. Thanks again Kirty. Px
  17. Number two. It's an ambitious pose, and has a great underlying suggestion of story. Number one is just plain offensive, .. Px
  18. If that is true, then the dogs were taken illegally and the case should collapse. Although that won't stop them being taken a second time.
  19. Safe enough. Many good dog shampoos are very gentle on the coat and skin, yet have a good cleansing action. However, it is inadvisable to exchange human shampoos for the dogs' product. Many cheaper and supermarket dog shampoos are rebottled human shampoos and are not recommended. They will damage your dog’s coat and skin. Regards Px
  20. 1. Sit 2. Drop 3. Stay/come 4. Heal on lead 5. Sit and wait; to cross road/Cross; to walk to the other side. Maremmas do not do recall without extra insight and creativity.
  21. Hi all :) My dogs were missing when I return home after work this afternoon. Just my old girl was in the yard as nonchalant as ever. I called the other three several times but had no reply. I began to think the worst. Just then, the kitchen door rattled. Somehow the three had found their way inside. I was quite relieved, ectastic even, that no tradgedy had befallen them. But no sooner had I played with the dogs outside and gone inside myself that the dogs could be seen making their way through the distant passages. This house is quite a labyrinth and it made me begin to think about the possiblilty of putting up a maze for the dogs. Possibly something that could be re-configured. so I'm asking has it been done before or very often? Are they useful and are they of any benefit to the dogs other than my own curious interest? Px
  22. I saw a merle at Durack a few years ago just before the start of the working dog event. It? was a stunningly beautiful dog. It won, and deservedly so. When a dog appears rich in so many attributes, it is always going to tempt people to equal or better it.
  23. Hi petermoore. :) My understanding is that if your dog has injuries that require Veterinary intervention as a result of another dog biting it then you are able to make a claim on the owner of the dog who inflicted them to pay your costs. I won't go into the reasons for the liability of the other party at this time, as time doesn't allow. I am sorry to here about your rescue dog suffering injuries. Px
