  1. Click on multi-quote for each response you want restated. Then click on add reply. That's the trick. Then cut, past and delete to keep the reply coherent. Good Luck
  2. As an anti-vivisectionist I find the whole suggestion extremely disturbing. Not discounting the fact, that dogs are sentient beings. Whether or not a Vet is 'chopping' neatly, the intimation that education proceeds through the indirect suffering of innocent and defenceless animals is simply astounding.
  3. It seems your sense of right and wrong has become extremely warped if you're wishing ill on a dog. I wish a c-section on those poor puppy farm bitches too. I'd consider it a kinder option to be discarded early in life, even if it results in death, then to be bred and bred, until you can breed no more. If you saw a dog hit by a car, would you help it or ask for pedigree papers first? Hardly the same thing.. Of course its not the same thing, a point is being made. Whether the dog was pure-bred or not, I wouldn't want someone with those attiudes holding the leash for my dogs.
  4. Re-train for House Training *taken from my dogs website.
  5. Or a 12 hour whelping during the night, breech births & a trip to an emergency Vet at 2am to get puppy formula to feed the puppies, because the mother doesn't want to know the puppies she's had, while she is still pushing out the others. Then the 2 hour feeds for the runts of the litter, who are too small to compete with the bigger stronger pups. I'm totally here. Is the solution to ignorance more suffering?
  6. Yep. Just give the meds time to work. Ears are the easiest because of the odours are distinctive. The ear check by the Vet was one of the first thing I observed when I returned to keeping dogs and had my first new puppy.
  7. Sorry to hear of your loss. I would of thought you would grieve together. My dogs missed their kennel mate recently and we had some very solemn days. They obviously miss them when they go, and the one who was closest is still finding it hard without her. Of course being continually reminded doesn't help either, but that is part of their place in this world.
  8. The alpha dog theory has been seriously debunked. Some dogs will know the best place to sleep, other will know where the best food is and others will know how to avoid detection etc. Dogs also assume diffent roles in different situations. With my dogs they never have bones or food unsupervised. Any bones or food left uneaten is quickly removed. Even my big girl who is totally non-violent will play politics with food and bury whole chicken legs just so she can chase the other dogs out of the yard. But food and bones are no laughing matter at our house.
  9. Plan What plan! Just don't show me any newborn puppies.
  10. Hi ann21 You may have just got the wrong angle or pressed on a sensitive area or pushed too hard. First thing to do is to have smell of his ears. My dogs ears smell like 'honey' when they are healthy. You might notice a diffence between the ears, and that may be a symptom indicating further veterinary care. Personally, my general rule is 'nothing solid in ears', either dogs or humans, and the vet can go hang. Anyway! Good luck with your boy.
  11. I keep the ones I haven't used I keep to myself. That's only fair. But these I've used. Sooki Winja Flynch Chalice Peal Thorn Florenza Gemelli Heraldus Lumen Spiritus
  12. Where is the dog? If your friend has it, then there's not much the RSPCA can do unless the dog has committed an offense. It that's the case then it would be the council threatening to take the dog. The council cannot take the dog unless there has been a serious offence committed. The story is quite confusing.
  13. Past favourites For years the purple bunny survived all other toys. Her kennel mate killed it but she had real puppies by that time. This is Purple Bunny and Big White
  14. He may be based in Melbourne but he visits Adelaide frequently. I had a consult with him while I was living in Broken Hill. The OP has a number of options, and may not suite some of them.
  15. Extremely serious situation. Been there, done that twice. Two different sets of neighbours. Couldn't believe it was possible to have two neighbours from hell in succession. MUP you need to nip this problem in the bud and fast. If it was me, I would respond with as much authority as I could muster. You cannot allow this to continue. You must call the police. The neighbour is not allowed to interfere with you or your property. You must also make it quite clear to the police that you want an immediate ceasation and the neighbour made to desist. Trust me, this kind of event can become lengthly, time consuming and costly exercise. Commonly, an offer to live amicably will not be successful. Good Luck. BTW The police will probably advise you to move.

So sorry for your separation. A beautiful girl. You did well Rysup, 15y 8m is commendable. Rest easy, Holly, old girl.
  17. Puppy (he's about 8 apparently) returned home yesterday. The outcome of the arthrodesis is more than I expected, so I'm very happy with the results. I would thoroughly recommend to any people who may be considering the options. Budget for around $6000 or use insurance. Dr. was concerned about some lameness and collected a bone sample for a bacterial biopsy. 4-6 weeks antibiotics if infected. (L) shoulder muscle has atrophied very significantly and puppy needs extensive, doggy type physio. Anyway, a thoroughly enjoyable venture. I must do it again sometime. :)
  18. Disagree! The pup's hardly a few weeks old, and should have had supervised, intermittent training. I would've removed the whole dog. Where did I advocate for anything? The dog was in the yard previously and its welfare considered. Same again only on the second time there was a different concern. Holes in the fence are not the answer, and neither in my opinion are electric collars. That's my opinion, that's what was asked for. It would be a different matter if no puppies were harmed in the event. The OP clearly felt there was a clear and present concern. Whatever else has been implied was beaten up by others and if you care to go back and look over the thread you'll find who made the accusation, and who rallied in behind them.
  19. I do have a point which means they must be square circles. :D
  20. I don't understand, you have contradicted yourself with the bolded quotes above. Where's the contradiction? They both present the negative case: inaction. Case 1. If one of us were able to prevent an injustice, but instead allowed it to take place, then we could not justify our inaction. Case 2. If we were to say that although we could have prevented it, we thought it best to protect the perpetrator by allowing him (sic) to carry out his plan, then we would be judged to have made a moral error. You're reading the perpetrator as 'me' removing the dog when in fact it is the 'person' who put the collar on the puppy.
  21. LisaCC I wasn't doing any such thing. Although they had a red hot go at beating it up to look as though I had. I always employ the same triple criterion. "Which intervention, in which situation, with which dog is the most efficacious." If it was me, I would have removed the dog. I don't care what others want to call it, it was just next door. No-one said that it is the universal case that dogs should be removed from their home and spirited away from their rightful owners.
  22. This! Nobody knows how old the pup is. The OP has guessed based on their memory of the size of their dog at 8 weeks old, four years ago, and their guess that its even a GSD. And what's with all the spying? Go and ask them! "I noticed you had a young pup..." blah blah blah. Interact with them and find out some facts. Much more useful than jumping to a million misguided conclusions. Its already been suggetsed.
