I own train/compete with ,, Standard Poodles I also own & plan to do the same with my Malinois a big challenge, but IMHO, worth it. She is just a baby at 5 months I train ONLY with food & toys tug games etc She is responding wonderfully & I love her VERY much! I still train & adore my Standard Poodles. The Malinois has VERY high energy, as well as intense, play/tug/retrieve food, drives I have trained her to reliably, under all circumstances, let go of a tug toy or anything else she has in her mouth, instantly. She does NOT bite or mouth people. All taught with calm, patience & well timed rewards or with holding of rewards. She is very polite in greeting people & other dogs Not the dog for everyone, IMHO, Malinois would be wrong dog for anyone who loses temper, or is easily frustrated or who is not VERY active. Malinois needs experienced, calm, patient trainer, who has She is a real challenge & lots of fun for me at this point in my life. As you can see, I am besotted!

Well done & very well deserved, Sue & Waldo. It may have been be your 1st Highest Score In Trial award, but certainly will not be your last. You have a right to be proud of that little fellow! He is a real credit to you. Hope you have a lovely break over the holidays Looking forward to seeing you next year. Enjoy!

Thanks very much for your advice & comments, Ptolomy & Dragon Woman I really appreciate you offering it ! FWIW, there are so very few people training &/or trialling in UDX in Victoria. Only a handful that have achieved the title over the past 5 years. Often just 2- 3 at most, entered in UDX class Those people generously share & help but most of the time, are not available It is not easy to work on your own most of the time I am going to take your advice!

Thanks so much for sharing your experience I am going to take your comment seriously! I have always been careful in formal training but when they are all out together, it has a been a free for all with the ball I will be more careful/conscious, in future, even in playing retrieve with a ball

I would be most grateful for any comments &/or advice regarding the possible cause(s) & possible solution to the following UDX problem(s) I have 9 passes with Roxy, since beginning of April when we started trialling in UDX , but most are just below 185 due to deductions, mostly on Scent Work. (Note;I train without physical corrections, using lots of tug games & food, verbal & physical praise). Problem #1 Scent Work wash cloths Roxy sometimes picks up the right cloth drops it back in the pile or 1/2 way back to me & stops/freezes (NQ) OR picks it up again returning with it (substantial deduction) Problem #2 Roxy's best most confident exercise was always Seek Back With decoy Until a 1 1/2 months ago she NEVER EVER got a deduction in this exercise. For the past few trials she goes back & forth between the 2 articles, sometimes several times, checking the 2 articles, picks the right one, but either will not return with it, or picks it up, drops it & picks it up again & either returns with it or stops part way SOME POSSIBLE REASONS..............(just guessing) A)When Roxy is playing Ball with me in the park, I have seen my Malinois puppy, grab Roxy's ear, to make Roxy squeal & drop the ball as Roxy is returning to me with the ball. I did not worry about it but now I am wondering.......... I am going to stop that from happening by holding on to the pup when Roxy is playing with the ball, from now on....just in case B)We had an incident in which my car was broken into at a trial The cage they were in, damaged & which caused my dogs to be VERY stressed & my puppy to be bruised C)At another trial a (non aggressive),dog, came in from the next ring & stood over Roxys article, . Nothing "bad" happened to Roxy ...but when she finally returned with the right articles she leaped up on me, putting her paws on my shoulders & shoving the article in my face D)I have been using metal articles for seek back with decoy Metal has not seemed to be an issue for her However,....maybe her teeth have become more sensitive?? I am going to try to switch to leather seek back articles to see if that makes any difference QUESTIONS Do you know if the articles in Seek Back With decoy HAVE to be the same type of articles used in UD Scent Discrimination OR can one use the type of article generally used in UD for UD Seek Back? I would be most grateful for any advice similar experiences, comments would you offer?

Delighted that a Standard Poodle pup I have bred, & owned with Chris Riza who trains & handles her, has, at 10 months got her Rally Novice & her Tracking Dog titles at the tender age of 10 months. She is trained with 100% positive rewards based methods & is a very joyous girl

I would be most grateful if someone would publish the full results of Poodle Club Vic. Champ Show today. I just went for Violet to be in Parade of veterans & unfortunately, I had to leave after the Standard Poodle judging. Thank you!!

Roxy won UDX Class with 183 points at MELBOURNE ROYAL Distractions included the usual amplified cheering from best In Group/show ring & the kids screaming on rides & Roller coaster right in back of us ........We have sort of become adapted to all this from previous years IN ADDITION The extremely high winds made the doors & metal objects around the metal shipping container, holding food & trophies right next to our ring, slam VERY LOUDLY, Repeatedly trash flew through the ring due to winds & large white banners came loose & flapped Roxy was so driven to work, she never took any notice of all the ruckus ALL Points off were for multiple small errors just caused by her "need for speed", while performing each exercise In OPEN CLASS, ROXY scored a perfect score in Heeling (VIOLET won OPEN) One of the judges kind remarks was to publicly announce that ROXY was the 2nd only dog he has given a perfect heeling score to EVER & that she was one of the happiest dogs he has judged.

Linda Johnson Very happy to report that at The Melbourne Royal Show my silver Standard Poodles, 11 1/2 year, old Dual CH.(O.CH.) GiDay Violet Crumble RAE ADX JDX ET won both Bitch Utility & Bitch Open Classes & my 4 year old Dual Champion Cosalta G'day Roxy UDX RAE JDX AD ET won Bitch UDX Class . The intensity of distractions was beyond anything I have ever experienced, even at The Royal, over the past 10 years. Loud crashes from the metal storage container, a few feet from the ring very gusty high winds & a P.A. system which amplified the loudly cheering audience of about 1000 people, for the Conformation Show banging slamming doors on a metal storage container, just a couple of meters away, kids screaming on amusement park rides, a food outlet grilling burgers, 10 meters, away & even MASTER CHEF a few meters away. The judge kindly remarked that ROXY was given the 2nd only PERFECT score for heeling, that he had given in his judging career" & that he "had never seen a happier working dog" In Winner of Winners/Best In Trial, The judge also remarked during presentations of awards that his decision was difficult as it was VERY close. We were beaten by "a hairs breath", by a male GSD, according to the judge, "due to the fact that VIOLET hesitated to sit, for 2 seconds, on the return sit for finish, after the retrieve over jump exercise" I offered my sincere congratulations to Ian & GSD Jake, unflappable & worthy winners. Well done & well deserved Ian!!

Absolutely brilliant CC - well done - now can i come for dinner tomorrow night - sounds fantastic! Dinner yes....EYE FILLET roasted sweet potato's, steamed spinach & baby carrots BUT you will have to wait till Roxy & I can manage 5 MORE passes over 185 The EYE FILLET will be nicely aged by then LOL LOL
-
That is excellent.!!!!! You are very lucky to have a trial like situation where you can practice! YOU can join us for tea anytime but steak (EYE FILLET NEXT TIME) will not be on menu till another SIGH................FIVE passes over 185 sigh........I get depressed even thinking about the work it will take.......
-
LOL! IF & when ROXY ever gets OB. Grand CH, it will be EYE FILLET for ROXY!! I am (mainly), a vegetarian, but with all the hard work that goes into training & trialling for UDX I MAY also NEED a thick steak by then!!!! I have always had a "ritual with my dogs that titles gained mean special steak dinner

It was sunny very warm & there was a hot gusty wind relentlessly blowing all day, at KCC Park today My most sincere thanks to the 3 judges who awarded Roxy her 3 qualifying Passes over the past 3 months, in UDX Class. These judges were meticulous in setting up their rings, encouraging & considerate & did their best to calm my nerves. My ebullient "ROXY", Dual CH. (O.CH.) Cosalta G'day Roxy UDX RAE JDX AD ET , a 4 year old, silver Standard Poodle, attained the final Pass for her UTILITY DOG EXCELLENT (UDX), title with 193 points & also won Highest Score In Trial at the Poodle Club Victoria today. I have struggled training for this class & now, I am so VERY happy to have taken on the challenge! Now (SIGH........), being a glutton for punishment, I am going to TRY to get 5 more passes at UDX over 185 points to attain the very rarely attained, OBEDIENCE GRAND CH. title. ROXY GOT A GRILLED SIRLOIN STEAK FOR DINNER & sides of steamed carrots & spinach

I found some grooming equipment at KCC Park FRIDAY IF it is yours, please PM me & I will tell you where to pick it up
