Ugh, MUP, why doesn't that surprise me

My neighbours over the road have an extremely old ACD, they are elderly themselves and had asked ,e a couple of weeks ago what I thought about their dear girl and what they should do. She is almost blind, pretty deaf, shonky on her legs and just wobbles about, but is dearly loved. I had a look at her and sat down and watched her. She still has a wag in her tail and is not in pain, so they were relieved when I said, no it's not time yet for her..she will let you know :). She may be old and on her last legs but she's not going anywhere and it is nice to know that her owners will also do the right thing, even though it will break their hearts, but don't want to see her in pain either. Aww Pav, she's a dear :)

Just makes me sad...a FB post about a dumped dog who was very senior as persona dotted to live out his last year in comfort and love made me sad. I look over at our aging (11years) badly bred Maltese and I can't even imagine leaving her in a pound . Sorry just a random sadness thought I wanted to share :

Yup, saw that too...but good news for the eastland PP..it is now Pets and Co. and they only rehome dogs from the Geelong shelter!! No puppies!

Thanks Pockets, I think I've got it sorted now :) Also, funny...my Brittany Missy is having a whopper of a phantom, soooo I popped on the wee one I was tubing..and as I watch she grows fatter and fatter!! Missy loves it too!! I only feed her supervised though as I fear missy will be too rough with her otherwise. Missy accepts that she feeds, noses and relaxes and then bubs goes back in with mum and she goes to sleep! :). Working well ;)

Ffs, all I need..mums milk supply is really low...babies are so noises..just tube fed them all for now...she went off her food yesterday, so I have just made up a salmon/black hawk/egg and fenugreek supper which she has eaten...guess I will keep making that to try to get back some milk supply, sigh...

Congrats MS! Sorry about wee one.. So I have a tiny wee one, she was 100g at birth and fell to 90 lt night. Seems a lot weaker..she can suckle but I thought I'd tube feed her for 24 hours. Went to a pet place (not an animal selling one) and bought some formulae...got hme and made up to find it curdle..turned around and looked at use by date..2011!!! I was pretty cross....not really good enough IMO...if your selling that stuff you should be checking use by date... Anyhow, they did swap it and pup has been tube fed twice (yes I still remember BB :) ). Fingers crossed. She seems to have perked up a bit already. If I can get her through I think she will catch up fast to her siblings..I think as there were so many in there she got squished!

Congrats BB!!!

Ok as a breeder of a breed that we test pups for liver shunt here are my two cents. I ave had two shunt puppies diagnosed through testing. Pup A: very small, but fully outgoing and cheeky..she had to bile acid before and after tastings which came out high and then to confirm shut a syntigraph was done. She was operated on and four years later is fine and was adopted by a vet nurse at Werrivee where I do all my tesiting :) Pup B: same size as others from birth but very quiet and sleepy. Same tests done that came out high twice, syntigraphy done again to confirm multiple shunts. I gave the ok to euthanasia as this pup had a low survival rate with the operation. Pup C: is currently in my backyard at 7 months old awaiting a syntigraphy. He is fat, healthy, same size as others and a sweet thing, but two bile acid tests have come out high. Not sure what we have really and neither is Dr Linda Abraham at Werribee Veterinary Hospital, the leading Vet in shunts here in Victoria. But there's not way I would place him in home until confirmed shunt or not. Yes, your breeder needs to know, and seeing how its not the first of this breed to have a shunt perhaps breeders need to think about testing pups? There is no known genetic marker so I call it Russian roulette..you get two carriers and boom...but at least we find it before it gets to a home to break people's hearts when smithing like this happens. I have always been open about my ant puppies, it peeves me off no end when breeders cover up the fact a stud dog has produces a litter with shunt...sure it may not be him, but it is obviously behind him somewhere. Have you had a Syntigraphy done to confirm where the shunt is and how bad it is? Might be your first port of call...(CAT scan with radioactive dye that shows up shunt). If it were me, I would probably pts, if the unlikely hood of a successful operation. You still have his sister. This is why I have not got close to the pup here, incase he has to be pts) it broke my heart to make a decision for a 6 week puppy...I cannot imagine a 12 week old. But geeze I do feel for you, it's not a great feeling and I'm so sorry ((hugs)))
