Surely he should have lost points for being Unpointerly?

A duck would be a tasty prize. ;) Up until yesterday I thought my boxer was incapable of actually catching a bird. Apparently he ate it too. RIP little black and white bird. If only you had landed in a retrievers' yard instead.....

Not too harsh. Good on you for taking the time to reply to them to explain your reasons. You may have helped educate them and made them think a little more about their plans. They sound like so many people (not on DOL!) who still believe that it's best to let a bitch have a litter before being desexed.

Love it!

well if they are cheap enough and come with a written guarantee not to make fish-smell-poo in the house I will buy one. The last bargain I bought from Mrs Deshonko was sent in a pet-pac via Nigerian Airways...I am still waiting, I will, perhaps, give her another chance.

Careful Boronia. Mrs Deshonko could come up with a dastardly marketing plan for these....;)

Congratulations, and what lovely pics. So glad all the drama ended well with the girls home and a healthy litter. CJ is a gorgeous mama, and what lovely shiny, healthy-looking pups! Thanks for the update, you've made a lot of DOLers day.

Roo tails are my dogs' favourite entertainment/bone! I buy a bag of frozen tails and actually give them to him only slightly defrosted as that keeps him busy longer. Another chewy activity that is more indoor-friendly is to firmly wedge chicken jerky down into a Kong. My dog works away at that for quite a while, especially if I make it almost impossible to get some of it out.

Cairo1, I'm also considering switching to raw. I only have one dog though but am following this thread with interest. I have also been trawling through lots of old threads on raw feeding. Espinay2 your website is well-written. I like your 'keep it simple' advice about raw feeding too. Thanks.

Really glad to hear he is OK. Thanks for the update.

Ummm what Dachshunds are a known breed to suffer bloat. Saying dogs under 30kg don't bloat is ridiculous I've heard of smaller dogs getting a torsion, which I think can happen with bloat, cant it, or am I getting all mixed up now. I was surprised when she told me he'd just said a blanket statement that dogs under 30kgs cannot get bloat, but certainly I've never heard of a whippet getting it. I just hope whatever he's got he's getting the right treatment, I bred this boy and I love him as one of my own. Kirislin I really do hope this boy is OK. Yes, my understanding is that any deep-chested breed has an increased risk of suffering bloat. Off-topic but I have to say, he's utterly gorgeous....

This does not work when one dog pretty much fits in the other dog's mouth. Go the boot people. I'd happily lose a leg to save one of my dogs.. my hands are very much a part of my living. When I went to a dangerous dog seminar with Steve Austin he said if you were attacked best to offer the dog your bum ie curl up in a ball with your bum facing the dog. I guess there is more padding and less arteries there! Yikes! Put your best cheek forward, so to speak? Was that if you get attacked on your own, rather than when walking your dog?

Agree, when it happened to me I still stuck my leg between them - and I would do it again. Yes agree, was in a similar situation recently. Instinctively tried to protect my dog by blocking with my legs (didn't manage to kick the dog that was rushing us though, him fast, me too slow!) Cybergenesis, I've seen video of how to break up a dog fight too but in real life your adrenelin-fired reaction can be quite different. An off-lead attacking dog can quickly cause you and your on-lead dog/s to become entangled and dogs just move so bl##dy fast! I couldn't move fast enough and I'm grateful that people came to my aid.

I'm sure he'll say it was a bull breed dressed up as a Lab ;)
-
When they didn't name the breed, my first thought was that it wasn't an 'expected' breed. I'm sure if it was any sort of bull breed/ bull breed mix the media would be jumping at the opportunity to name it, even if it meant roughly guessing it. Call me a media cynic. ;)

Awesome news!!!!! So glad they are safely home.

That beautiful pup deserves a better owner....

Except the exact opposite of that happens!

Great news Sandra 777. C'mon China girl!

Not I. I personaly don't follow the over emotional statement people plow out about dogs being for life....sometimes things don't work out. I think this lady should be supported in making this decision that is in the dogs best interest. +1 Agree with both Clyde and MEH. Better that she realizes now that the pup is too much for her, than in a years time. The right home now can still give this pup the training and time that a Husky needs. Good luck to her and Aztec Gold hopefully you will be able to help her.

The breeder may have a waiting list for their puppies. They potentially have the perfect home for this pup. If your friend really cares about the future of this pup then contacting his breeder is the right thing to do. Much more chance of successful re-homing than selling it to a stranger.

Well done Sumosmum. You and your dog both did a great job. Gorgeous boy BTW.

I don't think the general public would be put off by a Boxer now that they have tails. Great big helicopter wags make them a bit easier to 'read' now. Funny though, I have been asked if he is a 'Staffy' or a Rhodesian Ridgeback while out ( he's purebred with papers, a fairly obvious Boxer to me!) Maybe it's just his colour? As Dasha pointed out, exercising in high heat can be an issue for Boxers. If we were going to have a 40 degree day here in Perth I would only walk him early morning/ late afternoon. Anyway 40 degrees is too hot for me too. For most of the year though, heat isn't an issue for me as a pet owner. I guess it depends on if you need a dog that can do strenuous exercise in high heat? in which case a Boxer isn't ideal. I'm glad you are considering a Boxer, they seem an under-rated breed. Ours just loves life to the full, I can't imagine not having one.

Poor China I hope she recovers well. Oh,and that she never touches a bl**dy snake again!
