  1. It was one of the 'novel proteins' on the list of suggestions for elimination diets my vet gave me. I went with roo. Bruno loves his 'Skippy' meals.
  2. I'm not sure if they stock dried horse treats but South Street Pet supplies in O'Connor are worth a phone call. Their number is 93378599. I buy roo meat and VAN there, and they stock meat such as horse for elimination diets. :)
  3. Ja. Well, I did do German in high school. All that I've retained is the ability to count in German and a smattering of random words though. I think that it would be useful to understand the language for the purposes you are talking about SkySoaringMagpie. Good luck, I believe Arabic is a challenging language to learn.
  4. I vaguely recall someone (Sway?) outlining a 'bloat kit' for breeds that are at greater risk of bloat. 'De gas' capsules and some other bits and pieces. I'll do a search later when I'm home again.
  5. I think you are wise to avoid the dog park scenario, especially if he doesn't listen to you when there are new dogs around. I have just had some good advice from Jed, Melbomb and Weasels in the 'Boxer' thread over some of the issues you describe. I agree with Weasels that a lot of dogs don't 'get' or appreciate boxer greetings. The exception I've found is, not surprisingly, other boxers. I'll second Weasel's question, do you know anyone else with a boxer (preferabley a female)? My boxer plays beautifully albeit boisterously, with other boxers and a friend's Airedale. Is he more tense on lead than off? My limited experience is that a boxer's body stance and facial expression can be hard for other dogs to 'read'. Others may disagree.
  6. Bruno would be the same. Our neighbours didn't know we had a dog because he rarely barks, only occasionally at cats. So, unless the burglars were cats, no-one would hear a sound.
  7. Funny you should say that. I recently ditched a plastic food dish and replaced it with a heavy-duty stoneware one. My dog was getting a lot of pimples around his muzzle but they've cleared up. :)
  8. Me neither Stan's mum. And although my children are not angels by any means, neither of them would torment an animal. But then, they have been raised to be interested in/ care about all creatures big and small.
  9. I have nothing to suggest Staffyluv, but am following this thread with interest. I left obedience training despondant last night, and shed tears on the drive home.
  10. Thanks Trinabean :) Were you there today? I saw some gorgeous boxers, seemingly all babies for some reason, between 6 and 12 months. I said to one owner "What a gorgeous little boxer pup!" and they laughed and said it was the first time they'd heard her called 'little'. Everything's relative. Sadly no, I wasn't there. Bruno gets a bit over-excited when there are lots of other dogs, and tries to play with everyone. It's an art-form keeping him focused at obedience training (about 15 dogs there) so I think the Million Paws walk would push him over the edge! I would have loved to have seen all the diverse breeds there though...
  11. He is absolutely gorgeous. I love the goofy face photo, and the one with the Chi.
  12. Rolf is gorgeous. Such lovely photos of him settling in. :)
  13. To the OP: a 'what breed is this' thread is no place to get offended. You've opened up a thread asking for people's opinions. Haredown Whippets is a knowlegable DOLer, simply offering her opinion. I see similarities betwen your dog and the photo she posted. For what it's worth I think your dog looks very sweet. :) You will never know what breeds went into making her, but it doesn't matter because you love her, and it's great that you can offer her a good home.
  14. So sorry at your news. Rest in peace lovely Lola.
  15. Yes, Lola does look like she's thinking that. Gosh I love Sid and Lola, they have such expressive little faces.
  16. I really feel for you and Moose. I have a boxer with some of the same problems, although a different likely cause (Boxer colitis). Like you we have tried various foods and my dog still struggles to gain weight and relapses to chronic diarrhea quite often. Thus, much of the time my dog isn't adequately absorbing nutrients. It's interesting that your dogs skin improved after being weaned off ZD Ultra. My dog became incredibly itchy while on ZD Ultra. My vet said that approx 25% of dogs he sees actually get worse on ZD and usually go on elimination diets. The likely culprit in the ZD is chicken. Although it is hydrolysed, chicken is still one of the more allergenic meats. I'm wondering if your vet has had your dog do an elimination diet to test for food allergies? Allergies and IBD share some of the same symptoms I believe. Forgive me if your vet has already taken you down that path. Others on here may be able to recommend some dermatologists if that hasn't been looked at already. We did a roo meat and sweet potato elimination diet after the ZD itchies. I haven't re-introduced my dog to dry food because I have found he is better on a raw/ home-prepared plus VAN diet. Frankly, my dog was quite sick or incredibly itchy on Royal Canin, Advance, Eukanuba, ZD Ultra, and flatly refuses to eat the Holistic Select biscuits. I have found not varying the diet too quickly and adding PAW probiotics helps my dog too. Also useful is adding a little sweet potato or pumpkin to each meal and using a bit of slippery elm when diarrhea recurs. We too use fish oil and vitamin B complex. When Bruno has been really sick my vet often gives him an injection of Vit B12 to replenish what has been lost, his appetite seems to improve after this. So you are doing some very similar things to us. My dog also improved after an 8 week course of Baytril, however he was being treated for a boxer-specific form of colitis so it may be irrelevant for what Moose has. Anyway, I hope you get some answers for Moose. Good luck. :)
  17. This happens when I take a photo of my dog too. I thought it was normal. I assumed it was something to do with the angle that light reflected off the back of the retina. Edited because I'm doing battle with iPhoto and Photobucket to post a photo. Gah! Going to have a cup of tea instead. Defeated.
  18. Well done on helping Lochi. It breaks my heart that he has been discarded by uncaring owners. Thanks for giving him a chance Thundercat. :)
  19. Oh dear. You see, this is where it's mighty handy to have a Spelling Nazi in the office.

    Rip

Thinking of you Jed. RIP doggies.
  21. I'm OK with my dog being allowed to have 'playtime' with other dogs when kennelled. Having said that, he only gets kennelled with his breeder, and she only owns and kennels one specific breed. So the dogs are similar in size and play-style. I also trust his breeders judgement completely. We've had no problems so far. :)
  22. I hope brave Lilly recovers well from her awful injuries. What a strong and loyal girl.
  23. The boxer one is so true for my boy. Light is over-rated. Only someone sadly lacking squeeky toys would notice that a light bulb needed changing!
  24. I find an early morning walk is when my dog empties his bowels. Thus I always take plenty of poo bags. He really doesn't poo in the backyard much at all. Just an idea worth a try.
