  1. Love the blurry 'Pie Bolt!' A big to gorgeous Stan!
  2. Haha! The ABC article didn't have a photo when I posted this morning. I was looking forward to a photo of the hero Bullmastiff (I have a bit of a soft spot for them). Oh well, Bridie did a good job anyway. :)
  3. From ABC online news: A pet dog has cornered a burglar at a home in Bertram, south of Perth. A couple inside the home were woken by someone trying to open their front door about 1:00am (AWST). Police say they then heard someone jumping over their side fence and their dog began barking in the back yard. They rushed outside to see their bull mastiff had bailed a man up into a corner. The dog held him there until police arrived. The man has been charged with trespass. Police later found he was wanted on a warrant to return to prison.
  4. Regan looks lovely Pers. :) And yes, it sounds like all is going well. A squeaky toy, a loving home and another dog to play with, what more could a Boxer want?
  5. Bianca.a I'm just sorry to hear of everything you're going through at the moment. I've had Petplan knock back a recent claim, which I kind of expected, as it was a bit of a grey area (due to an exclusion placed on anything GI ). I won't dispute it because I can see that the exclusion applies and in the grand shceme of things, Petplan have been really good about all other claims. So no, I haven't dealt with Hollard, but I think you should pursue the dispute with them. By the sounds of things, they were covering the condition previously and hadn't placed any exclusions on your policy (apart from the prosthesis etc. you mentioned). Good luck.
  6. Yikes, scary! Glad Puck is ok. I did laugh at the bit you wrote about him wanting it back.
  7. No doubt about it some lines and some breeds have some big issues to deal with but this is about selection not in breeding. It wont be magically fixed for consecutive generations if we just start outcrossing - in fact in may give us more grief than we have now Absolutely Steve, and I wasn't suggesting outcrossing. I still prefer the predictability of living with purebred dogs. I more meant that my own dog is, sadly, not a great example to use in arguments about the health of pedigree vs the 'hybrid vigour' of crossbreds. I wish it was different. Yep I got that was what you were saying but there is a big push on for us to outcross and crossbreed - there is a good argument for that in some breeds but its not something that can just be done with no science if its going to help and still leave us with individual breeds. Oh, ok, I get where you're coming from now. Thanks. :) Edited: And thanks Stan's mum.....

  9. I stay out of arguments about 'hybrid vigour' as unfortunately, I have a very sickly pedigree.
  10. And I once had a male cat called Sugarplum. Sorry RallyValley, to take it off-topic.
  11. What about just one dog calledPancake. Shes not a thing. Oh wait...yes she is! I'm sure Pancake would love a friend. Maple Syrup. :D I don't have a problem with matching names, or popular ones for that matter. But then, one of my children has a very common name. Sometimes the 'popular' names just become so, because they sound good, or have good connotations. As for funny dog names or combinations of names well, if you can't have fun naming your dog, what can you have fun with? Says she who flatly refused to name the dog with the name the 5 year old son came up with. 'Wintage Pie' no less.....
  12. Oh good Pers. Would love to see photos if any come your way. :)
  13. Yes. I read that bit and thought 'I wish!'
  14. Rest in peace sweet little fellow. I'm sorry for your loss Anne.
  15. Yes, my dog is itchy when his atopic dermatitis flares, but the the random Demodex bald patches he gets don't seem to be itchy/ painful at all. You might do better with a referral to a skin specialist. Demodex mites don't always show up on a skin scrape either. Crafty little buggers.
  16. Absolutely! I wouldn't have had to rescue the cat that Bruno chased up a tree in our backyard the other week. It got jammed high up in the damn tree too ( for 8+ hours). The owners immortal words: "he never leaves our yard."
  17. Yes, one allergen seems unusual. Mine is allergic to the pollen of 9 common grass species, house dust mites, storage mites, mosquitos, some flies, and intolerant to a whole bunch of foods. We call Bruno the 'bubble boy.' LOL We had a Bubble Boy too. Haha Sas! Friends even ask me "How's the bubble boy going?"

  19. Cheeky Sam, I can just picture him Mita. Persephone, I'm not sure if your friend uses facebook, but this is the link to the Boxer Rescue Network that Dagmar is involved with: My link :)
  20. Jellyblush, always great to read a Roo update, and nice to see her relaxed at daycare. Off-topic, but the drowsy beagle in the last photo cracked me up.
  21. Oh, Sam :) Their looks are decieving, mine loves kids, other dogs, squeaky toys, vet nurses and life. Not a mean bone in his body either. Terrible guard dog.
  22. She sounds sweet Mita. :) At 13 months she'll still be very puppyish. I think many boxers keep a puppy outlook for most of their lives.
  23. This. And in the case of the OP, this is a young dog, whose recall training is still a work in progress. For some of us, our dogs have good, but not 100% recall. I feel like crap that I haven't managed to train a perfect recall. In the meantime, I try to make responsible choices. Using a long-line to practice recall in open spaces is one. Not letting my dog off-lead (and hoping for the best) is another. I also don't go to dog parks as I don't think my dog is ready for that. Enjoy your beach weekend BoxerB. :)
