What a gorgeous girl!

Friends of my husband own Caffe Republic, in Mermaid Beach. It's in a quieter residential area, straight across the road from the beach. I (think?) people often tether their dogs and sit at one of the outside tables. I don't think they have a website but I'll try to post a link. They are open for brekky and lunch. It maybe worth a quick phone call to see if they can reserve an outside table for you? :) Caffe Republic

And one more showing the white tail 'indicators.' Playing biteyface:

I love the little white tip that Boxers (previously a docked breed) have on their tails. A fast-moving 'indicator' of happiness. Hopefully I can get these photos to work (apologies for the large size). Bruno (red) and friend Dozer (brindle): Saying 'cheese' with relaxed tails:

Fussy Dogs - My Thought Ponder For The Day
trinabean replied to a topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I had a similar experience with Bruno. He was not eating well even when I picked him up from the breeder. He's never been a good eater and is not food-motivated (painful at obedience classes). He frequently went on hunger strikes, sometimes for days at a time. I've felt so guilty for his fussiness/ refusal to eat and it's been a battle to keep enough weight on him. I now know that he is sick. I do envy those whose dogs will, and are able to 'eat whatever is put in front of them.' -
Happy birthday gorgeous Ruby. And what a cute squishy puppy photo.

Never heard that before! Gold Why thanks! Trust me, after a boxer play date, it's hard to see the dogs behind the slobbery sand truffles

Well, it could be. Nobody has seen this image and blurb outside of Facebook so far. Facebook is full of made-up and misleading stories/images. Which is probably why Jed was asking in the first place, to find out if there was any truth to the story.

Yes, particularly if it is a disease that can't be tested for, but may have a history in the dog's lines. Hopefully the breeder is open and honest. I can think of one particular disease that I really hope it's not. Is this the boxer that your friend recently adopted Pers? yes ....and she is reluctant to contact the breeder I'm not a breeder (or anywhere as remotely experienced as Jed ) but I can think of someone who might be able to offer some insight. She was able to tell me a lot about dogs in my dogs' pedigree (including a grandparent who inexplicabley dropped dead at 5 years old). I was able to verify this independantly, however my dog's breeder was not forthcoming on some of these details. Feel free to PM me too Persephone.

Great photos, they look like they have a ball together. Love Elli's 'crazy eye' look. Zora is very pretty. Even with slobbery sand truffles on her coat.

Yes, I bought a horse lunge lead to use as a long line. It has a decent padded handle part.

A beautiful story, and one that I had not read before. Thanks for sharing it. :)

Thanks for the replies, Rosetta, Becks and Dory.

That's interesting Rosetta. One breed profile I read (and it might be inaccurate) suggested that this terrier is very active, and prone to nuisance barking if under-stimulated/ left alone for long. I know that a dog in this family wouldn't be alone for extended periods. The parents work hours overlap (husband gets home early in the afternoon) and their adult daughter only does 2 contact days at college and is home studying most of the time. They plan on doing puppy school and basic obedience and they always walked their previous dog, so I imagine this dog would get a daily walk. I wonder if this is enough exercise though?

I have a Boxer who, up until this week, I thought would welcome anyone into our yard/home. Apparently not. He was barking/growling/ carrying on like a porkchop at 4:30am Tuesday morning. Precisely the time that I later found out several neighbours were burgled, all while they slept. I only have 1 dog, so can't answer the second question. As to how he would react if an unwelcome visitor entered the house while I was home, judging by his normal reaction to strangers coming to the door, he always races to the door ahead of me, and tries to stand between me and the door. This of course, is awkward if I want to welcome the person in, but I don't mind him appearing 'protective' if it's not someone I would invite in. I think he would attempt to 'block' an intruder. And he would jump up on them. Lord knows, it's been a long road to teach him not to jump on invited guests, let alone uninvited ones! As to how he would react if someone became physically confrontational with me, I can only guess. When faced with frightening situations/ noises etc, his reaction is not normally fearful (he seems to quite enjoy watching the fireworks with me that happen nearby throughout summer). He doesn't back down from things, he is usually curious and sticks his nose in. So, I *think* he would try to get between the aggressor and myself. I truly don't know if he'd bite them though, as he's never bitten or snapped at a person yet.

That would be great Showdog, thank you. :)

Friends of mine had a beloved terrier (Westie x?) girl who died last year, at the ripe old age of 18. They are looking into getting another dog, and are quite interested in a Welsh terrier. It seems they are a relatively rare breed, there are only a few breeders listed on DOL (all interstate, so a pup would need to be flown to WA). I'm trying to learn a bit about the breed. My terrier knowledge is limited and I've never met a Welsh Terrier. They look like a small version of an Airedale to my untrained eye. They sound quite different though, from what I've read so far. So does anyone here have a Welsh Terrier? What are the pros/cons of the breed? Are there any health issues to be mindful of (they sound like a fairly hardy breed)? And lastly, any breeder recommendations (PM if you prefer). Thanks. :)

I reckon you are..... You are dealing with a couple of super models and some damn awesome head wear and you only give us two piddley photos. Greyhounds and whippets really are the fashion models of the dog world. Sadly I don't think they'd suit my blocky-headed boxer. What a greyt way to raise money for greyhound rescue. Nice work Pam and Stan's mum. :)

How awful. I hope the child is ok. This is one of those rare times when it was a good thing you were running late.

Not much apart from dog toys and the odd stick. There was once a mangled Lego spaceman. Mmmm, crunches like bone. My kids learned a good lesson from that. Now they just leave bits of it on the bedroom floors, which Bruno can't access. I find it with my feet.

Could You Possibly Swap Your Dog For...
trinabean replied to Kajirin's topic in General Dog Discussion
 Never been asked to swap anything but people always want to take Stan home. When people stop to pat him he turns into the "love sponge" leaning on them or putting his head in their lap if they are sitting at cafes although whilst they are gushing over him he is actually eyeing off their lunch. Stan. The man with a plan. -
Could You Possibly Swap Your Dog For...
trinabean replied to Kajirin's topic in General Dog Discussion
No, I've never been offered a swap for my dog. But then mine isn't as well-behaved as Scout sounds. Erm..more like the energetic nutter Dory has just described! So would I. Last year I saw an ad on our local facebook classified page where a guy wanted to swap his dog for a mobile phone, it wasn't a joke and was so sad The selling and swapping of puppies and kittens got so out of hand on that page that admin ended up banning all ads for dogs and cats thank God. Yes, some of those Buy/swap/sell FB pages are a real eye-opener. Anyway, quite clearly Scout is unswappable (sure, it's a word). Look at his gorgeous squishy face. -
Removing The Aged Dog And Palliative Care Forums
trinabean replied to Sheridan's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
This reflects my feelings too. There are some forums I never go into (for a variety of very different reasons). I simply have no experience to offer in the palliative care thread. Maybe the palliative care and aging dog forums could have a new thread each in the general Health forum, to see if they generate more traffic? Perhaps they would catch the eye of more people in there than off in a separate forum? I still don't think I'd comment for the reasons stated above. However others with palliative care experience might be compelled to, if the topics were more visible? Sorry if my post makes no sense. Desperately need caffeine, brain is AWOL.
