Large Dog Door To Go Into Glass Pane
trinabean replied to White Shepherd mom's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yes, this was what our insurance company said when I enquired about putting a large dog door in. I was quite specific that a person could fit through the flap. Apparently as long as the dog door is lockable, we are covered. The security screen is lockable and abuts the insert (so doesnt cover over the dog flap). The dog door (sliding door insert type) we bought also had a galvanized panel that slides into grooves inside the house to block the flap. So if I want my dog to stay outside ( eg. with a manky bone) or inside (eg. when we are mowing the lawn) I can quickly block the dog door. I leave it accessable most of the time though. We bought a Patio link XL sliding door insert. They are expensive brand new (over $500 in WA) but I picked mine up through Gumtree for $150. Worth keeping an eye out for 2nd hand ones. The glass panels of the door are toughened glass, so the same glass as in existing sliding doors. :) -
Sam's Story With Inflammatory Bowel Disease
trinabean replied to LisaCC's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Lisa thank you for sharing Sam's story. I have a dog who has always had digestive issues ( ulcerative colitis plus allergies) and nothing is ever straightforward. It has been a struggle at times, and so hard to keep weight on him. -
I think they're whippets Mita. Just going by their size next to the staffy... :) You're right, trina... they are whippets. :) Aren't they lovely, too! LG, I loved the push thro' to the water...' Look out, ladies.., coming thro'!' :) :) I loved that bit too. My dog would have stopped suddenly at the water (it melts you/ burns/ is not to be trusted you know ).

Home Cooked Style Food - Where To Buy?
trinabean replied to CrazyCresties's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Oh good, I hope it is suitable for Louis. The ingredient list looks pretty good. I agree that Ziwipeak is a good food Alibi but I think it's still a raw product? The canned Ziwipeak is moist 'raw' food and the dry food is raw and air-dried. :) -
New Uk Laws Prosecting Dog Owners If They Scare Children
trinabean replied to Her Majesty Dogmad's topic in In The News
What a crazy law. My dog wouldn't harm a child (actually, he'd probably be ecstatic, a new ball AND a bonus kid  ) but I'd be unhappy about anyone just coming into my yard, uninvited. I've always taught my kids that if a toy goes over the fence, they are to knock on the neighbours door and ask politely for it back. If the neighbours aren't home we leave a note, asking if they can toss the ball back when they get a chance. -
Home Cooked Style Food - Where To Buy?
trinabean replied to CrazyCresties's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
A friend of mine buys this and swears by it. Not sure if your dog is ok with roo meat? It is a cooked product, and is available at a few farmers markets in Perth (Subiaco, Fremantle etc). Organic Dog's Dinner -
Perhaps, but the cynic in me thinks not. There's a heck of lot of 'rare' being pushed in the ad. I thought the BB standard called for a black nose and dark eyes? There's a lot of photos in the ad showing a liver coloured nose and very pale eyes. The colour doesn't look 'lilac' to me either. Hopefully a BB person can clarify.

Kelpiecuddles I feel like I just about live at the dermatology vet clinic due to my dog's allergies. Last time Bruno had a suspected fungal infection, the vet had us applying 'Lamisil' cream twice daily to the area (while we waited on pathology results). I bought the first tube from the vet and then realized it was just a human tinea cream. I bought it from the chemist after that, much cheaper. The active ingredient is Terbinafine. :)

The Big Problem With Pit Bulls (in Usa)

That's wonderful Melzawelza. -
This. I love my dog dearly but put in the same situation as you have described, I too would euthanase. I'm sorry you are going through this, it's a heartbreaking thing to deal with. I hope your baby heals well from the bite.

If by 'those breeds' you mean bull breeds, you are certainly lumping a diverse group of breeds into one category. As has been stated before, the bull breeds include breeds such as the French Bulldog, the Boston Terrier, the British Bulldog, the Boxer, the Bull Terrier, the Bullmastiff, the ASBT as well as the SBT (and by Sandra's experienced eye, the culprits in this attack are not purebred SBT's). Plenty of members of this forum own and responsibly raise these breeds. Plenty of us have well-socialized and trained dogs, and are not rude or abusive on this forum. My heart sinks every time a bully-type (type, not breed, - how often is one of these dogs a well-raised and cared-for pedigree dog?) dog is responsible for a dog attack. I'm upset for all involved and angry at the owners who don't take responsibility for their dogs. I hope that the injured women and dogs make a full recovery from this attack. So many of these incidents are preventable. Every time a bully-type breed attacks it means the rest of the bull breeds get tarred with the same brush. It's disheartening to see so much of this 'tarring' happening on this forum. Believe it or not, we bull breed owners are not all bogans and our dogs are not the 'devil incarnate' with 'locking jaws.'

A very interesting read Mita, thanks for posting that. :)

A family friend had two of the most unstable dogs I've ever known, and yes, they were litter mates. They had severe separation anxiety (could not be boarded, and didn't cope with pet-sitters either). They were aggressive around food, would 'guard' their owners from others and (each other) and they were snappy with children (supervised, well-behaved ones at that). They lived until about 17 years old. So 17 years of managing, medicating, watching them carefully around others/kids/food, and no holidays. It taught me a lesson. I'd never want to take on the challenge of raising littermates. Edited to add: These dogs were miniature poodles.

Looks like so much fun Esky. Good on the reporter for giving it a go too. Another Doler here in WA has been sledding with her Boxer. From the photos I've seen her dog looks like he's having a blast, and is super-fit.

I would have been cracking up too. Love it Stan's mum.

Why does that make me think of Stan?  I thought of Stan too!

I'm interested in the replies Mantis. My boxer is the same, and I wouldn't mind an alert bark when someone comes to the door. He just stands there wagging his tail at them. Days go by without a single bark....

Oh Staffyluv how awful. I hope everything is ok and Ziggy is back home with you tomorrow.
