hi guys, i am thinking of a inside dog ? but to be honest iv never owned a dog that has been inside the house , so asking a breeder sounds like it is a bit hard , ut that is the way i want to go , as i want a dog that has been bred for health and temperament , i have seen heaps of ads on trading post, are any of them beng sold from show breeders ? or would they never think of selling like that ? thanks for the replys guys, you have givin me plenty of advice ,

so what are the show breeder people like to buy dogs from ,? iv heard some can be very funny about who they sell there dogs too ,? what sort of advice would you recommend , when dealing with show people ,? if looking for a mature dog ?

hi DAVERI , my wife hates them as her dad had a bully male when she was growing up , and she said he was always fighting other dogs , and i guess she has heard like the rest of us that bullys have lock jaws ? and once the start fighting another dog its impossible to get them to let go ? thats something iv heard but having never owned 1 i dont know , but there a breed i love the look of and a breed i have always wanted , but my wife loves british bulldogs, i guess ill have to sneak 1 into the house 1 day when she is not around ,

hi guys, i hope im posting in the right place, i dont know if this sounds like a dumb question, but iv always wanted to ask about the shape of bullys heads , in my town there use to be this bully a tri black and white pied , and he had the most roman nose iv ever seen , he had a head like a Border Leicester sheep ,lol , to me he had a ripper head, then iv seen other dogs on tv that there heads are alot straighter ,? if you know what i mean , is there a difference , by bloodlines of by different countrys as to head shape ,? im planning on oneday getting a mature dog from a breeder , iv never brought from them before, only ever had a couple of rescue dogs , i keep asking my wife to let me get 1 , but she wont let me, she thinks that bullys kill every dog they see and are untrainable, she wants a british bulldog, or a staffordshire bullterrier , also if and when i do get another dog,? no rush , i keep thinking about buy a mature dog from a registed breeder , as i see a few mature dogs for sale on this site ,what are the pros and cons of buying a mature ex show dog from a show person so if and when i decide to get another dog ill know what to do , im looking for a dog that will live inside something iv never had before, and ill be home with it all the time, out of these breeds what are your thoughts, also are females more suited to live indoors or males better , iv been told males mark all over the place ?

hi yes he was on the drip for 2 days, it was strange because he was healthy as , and seemed to go down hill once he was needled, i wonder why the people who had him before went and had him microchipped , and never bothered to needle him ,? maybe he was done before they had him, oh the vet said now my backyard will have the parvo virus in the ground , for about a year, so any dogs not needled will get parvo ? cbl , the italian greyhound is i am told around a year old, i asked if he was housetrained but they said he sleeps outside, iv heard that they are a house dog ? i was thinking he could sleep in the dog house during warm weather then move him into the laundry during winter ?

hi guys, i thought i would do a update, its been a while since i last posted on here, well after thinking about getting another dog, i decided to find go with a dog needing rescue, well i heard of a dog in wagga the owners had little time for and were going to dump him at the local pound, so i decided to get him, he is a foxie x jack russel , about 9 months old, well i got him before xmas , so after i had him for less than a week i decided i would take him to the local vet, the only place he had been since i got him, well i got him needled , and about 1 to 2 days later he started to get sick ? so after another 2 visits to the vet we find out he has parvo , the only place we can work out he got it was from there ? well the fist think the vet wanted to do was put him down, ? well after loseing my old staffy i wasent about to see a young dog die , so $600 later i now own the dearest rescue dog in town ,lol , but since we have got him over the parvo he is now a happy and healthy dog, with a few years left in him to enjoy, i kow alot of people said i was mad spending that much on him , but i dont care, you should see him now enjoying life, he loves going for his walks with my daughter every day , i have also been offered a italian greyhound that the owner dosent want anymore, they are selling him for $250 , i thought he would be a good mate for my foxie boy , oh and i made shore that he is needled, lol , i am so amazed at the dog even in my town that are free and givin away , i have been asked by 2 people if i could get someone to rescue there dogs, 1 is a greyhound bitch , and the other is a blue heller bitch , i posted them on the rescue part of this forum but they have been deleted because they are not desexed ? so dont know were else to find them help, anyway thanks for your time, regards jason

hi , yes iv been thinking long and hard about getting another dog, i said after loseing my old staffy mate i would never do it again, but then i also thought if i got another dog it would be 1 less ending up in a pound somewere , i try not to look at the rescue section as its unreal the amout of dogs going thrue those places , alot of good dogs going to waste , i know taking on the old basset girl will be a challenge im still not shore what i am going to do,? also the $25 jack russel pup im getting for my daughter will be 1 less wasted life, but im lucky as i have a great relasionshp with my local vet , i have had a account with them for years , they let me pay off any work i have had done with my past dogs , so just saving a couple of dogs will be something , i have been thinking about trying in the future to start some type of rescue here , but dont know were to start , i thought even if i could list the dogs taken into the local pound that would be a start ? the local ranger dosent seem to want to save any dogs around here for some reason ? i guess its just to much work ,? jakeyjangels thanks for the kind reply

thanks for the help so far guys, i have to let the lady know if im taking the basset tomorrow night , so i have alot of thinking to do, i have always thought about helping unwanted dogs, as here i cant find anyone who rescues them, the local council and ranger dont even want to know , iv thought about trying to help small strays here but dont want to get in over my head, or even were to start,

hi guys, as someone who has only had 2 dogs before , my first dog a staffy girl died of old age, my 2nd boy a staffy a rescue dog, died of tumours, well i said id never buy another dog again, but my daughter has been asking me to get her 1 , so the last couple of months iv been looking at dogs for sale, both rescue and people selling backyard dogs, im amazed at the amount of dogs that are around , even here in deniliquin, my 1st atempt at getting a dog i thought id try the local ranger , but he kept saying theres no dogs for sale , so after a few times of asking and trying to leave my number , i gave up, then someone around the corner is selling staffys, so i went to check them out , they look healthy enoughth , but i dont want to buy from someone who only wants to make money ,and as there are so many staffys at pounds i didnt bother, then we heard of a guy who lives out of town who said he was a breeder of staffys, so i went to check his dogs out, his dog i think were always locked up and went crazy when you went near them, and when i asked him about the dogs he said they went registed , they looked to tall to be english staffys, a couple looked like pitbulls ? so i got out of there fast, well i have been looking on the net and im amazed at the number of dogs beeing bred , its unreal, well then i was talking to a local real estate guy yesterday, and he was telling me about alitter of jack russell pups , so i went to check them out, the mum of the pups was a loverly quiet girl she let me pick the pups up without worrying about it , she was just about pure white , so after looking at them i was still not to shore ,so my daughter looked at them and picked out a white male, so then i asked the guy how much they were , and guess what he said, oh i dont even want these pups, so how does $25 dollars sound, it blew me away that the guy just thought of them as nothing, so i couldnt help myself i had to rescue 1 , so when there old enough ill go get the pup, i just hope the other pups get someone who will look after them, i thought they would cost more than $25 ? well i also am in the prosses of getting a old basset hound girl, i heard about here from a friend , she is just turning 6 and the owners have decided they dont want here anymore , ? i think she was just used for a brood bitch , as her belly is just about dragging on the ground, the owners have been trying to sell here for $500 , but no one wanted her as the owners live way out in the middle of knowere , a 5 hour trip each way from here , after seeing some pics i thought, maybe i should try and give her a good home , so after talking to the owners they said i could have her for $150 , i hope im doing the right thing, as i havent owned a basset hound before , i havent got her yet as i have until next week to make up my mind, the owners said she is healthy needled and has rego papers, ? on another good note last week i heard my brother inlaw was trying to give a jack russel x foxie away , so i knew that a friend of my older daughter who lost there old dog , and i thought they would love him, he is a great little dog, about 8 months old very quiet, well they were talking about getting another small dog, so they are going to take him, im so glad to have found him a home without him ending up in a pound somewere , well iv saved 2 dogs , and tryin to save a 3rd , i hope im doing the right thing, ? most dogs seem to be a throw away item these days, there must be alot of people making a quick doller breeding pups out there ?, what are the laws as to people breeding and selling dogs ? also do any of you guys on here ever think of or buy from a backyard breeder , ? or have brought a backyard dog ? im shore there are some good dogs out there that were bred by a backyarder ,? i feel bad buying a $ 25 dollar jack russell , but at least im saving 1 ? lastly am i doing the right thing getting a 6 year old basset , the owners sounded like they looked after her , but i asked them why they are getting rid of her thay said they were going into another house and could only take 2 dogs ,? they were not bassets they were big black poodle looking things ? are bassets to old at 6 ? they said she would live to around 14 years ? i feel like i am going to take her , if she is unwanted , ill try and give her a good home, i dont know why but i love the thought of trying to help some unwanted dogs get a home, here in deni there is no one saving dogs at all ? if i manage to save 2 or 3 at least they will have a home, the funny thing is when i was growing up on my parents property , my dad had about 10 to 15 dogs at a time, we were not allowed near them as he said they were his working tools , i was never liked them at that time, sorry for the long post , please reply as i would love to hear your thoughts,

they wanted $ 250 each, when i was here the guy had 2 other girls on heat , trying to get pups from them, he breeds blue staffys, i am glad i never got a dog from him, i did feel like buying 1 to rescue it but being that they have spent most of there lives in small cages i was worried about there training, as they went mad when anyone went near them, but on a better note i have been offered a loverly old pure bred basset hound girl , but she is located a fair way from me at dimboola victoria, and im way over at deniliquin , so im trying to work out how to get her here ,

thanks for the help and great advice guys, i did go out and see the 2 mature dogs today, the girl was nice and quite and seemed to have some training, she was use to being out of the pen , and came when the guy called her, but the guy turned me off her beause he kept going on about getting pups from her, he said she was just about on heat and ready to breed, im not wanting to breed pups, the other dog there was a big obese looking staffy boy, i asked him what the boy was like , did he have any training, i dont think his dogs have been out of there pens as they all went crazy when you go near them, all he told me about the boy was that he was used for breeding, and was ingnorant and didnt come back when called, so i got the feeling that buying a dog from them was a bad idea, and im not likeing the idea of getting a pup from a backyard breeder ,

hi guys, i thought i would write another post to seek some help with there thougts from everyone, well my wife wants to get me another staffy, ? i told her i dont want another staffy, my 40th bday is coming up and she keeps saying she is getting me another staffy, well a person around the block from us has a litter of staffys,and we found out they are the same bloodline to my 1st staffy girl i had , i found out my wife has seen them 2 times , lol , well she said the other day lets o for a drive and then she takes me around to the peoples place who have the pups, well then we end up looking at the pups, then the owners said you can have the pick of the litter, thankfully i didnt say i was taking one, but the wife kepts asking me to pick 1 , so then i said i liked a certain pup, but wasent going to say i was taking it , i think she is going to get 1 ? well thats okay , now yesterday she heard that some people out of town who breed staffys , mostly blues, they keep there dogs in kennels and just use them to breed blue pups, i guess you would all it a puppy breeding place ,? they are leaving town and selling all there dogs, well she heard they are selling 2 of there mature dogs , 1 a black pied bitch that is 2 years old and never had pups ? and a blue fawn dog that was used for breeding, well she wants to go out there today after work to look at the 2 dogs for sale, well my worrys are , 1 , i hate the idea of buying from backyard breeders ? i know the person with the pups that the dog and bitch of the pups are very freindly, but they havent been checked y a vet or needled ? so parvo may be a big problem ? the people with the 2 mature dogs, will they be hard to handle ? if there been penned up all there life , im not saying they have been but i know the guy breeds heaps of pups ? they said there dogs are needled and micro chiped ? will they be the type to fight dogs in town ? iv only ever had 2 staffys both were good with other dogs as i use to take them walking all the time, sorry for the long post guys, what are your thoughts on theses dogs ? what to look for and what to ask ?

thanks for all the replys guys, your posts got me thinking about what you all had to say, i was talking to my wife about jock and she said something that also got me thinking,? she said we had him for over 8 years and gave him a good life, she then said what would off happened to him if we never rescued him? , it was only a spur of the moment thing when we heard about him at the time , it was my brother inlaw who told us he was going to be put down in a couple of days time, so going against everything iv ever thought i got a dog from a pound, it was somewere i never thought id get a dog from,? well when we got him we couldnt belive anyone whould dump a pure english staffy ? we straight away thought he must have some problems ? but he has been a ripper of a dog, and gave us 8 years of pleasure , well me and the wife said we would never get any more dogs as we dont want to try and replace jock, but after hearing from you guys, i thought if we were to get another dog we would not be replacing him we would be saving another dog, and getting another mate to take for a ride and take fishing , so we have decided when and if the time is rite to get another dog , we would go for another pound dog, we were thinking we would go for a mature dog , we thought maybe we mite try a small foxie type dog , and our idea with getting a older dog is, that we could give a older dog a chance to live , as maybe people getting dogs from pounds go for young dogs, were i like older calm type dogs , anyway thanks everyone for putting up with my ramblings , i like this site as i have learnt a lot about dogs and you guys have been very nice, regards jason, ps , i hope no one was cranky when i said rescue dogs are the best, im shore dogs got from other places besides pounds are also great,

thanks for the kind words guys it means alot , the vets thinks when he was sick back in april it may have been the start of his tumours, ?, so he lasted around 6 months , i wish it was longer, but im also glad he is now pain free, the worst part is my daughter has been asking us to let her have a dog of her own, we said awhile ago when jock was 1st sick we wouldnt ever get another dog , we have only ever had 2 dogs, the 1st died last year of old age, and now jock , how do you ever come to the decision to get another dog, after loseing 2 of them ?
