Images Of Dogs "in Drive"
westielover replied to corvus's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Here are a couple of a foster kelpie I had recently who was BALL mad -
Tyson sure is a chunky little hunk My little dog walks on his tip toes (back legs) and he also does bunny hops every now and then and has a 'stiffish' gait .... does Tyson ever do little bunny hops when he's trotting? My dog is 9 years old and I recently discovered that he has hip dysplasia It's likely that he's had it most of his life. A vet can do a physical exam of Tyson's hips and give you and idea of whether it may be worthwhile have x-rays done on Tyson's hips .... it may be possible that he has earley signs of HD. If he does and you get onto it now then you can begin to make him more comfortable now rather than later. Fingers crossed his waddle is not HD.

Thanks for your lovely comments guys. I must admit - I do adore my boys and am very biaised when it comes to their cuteness Westiemum - I purchased my camera online from digital camera warehouse - it's not the cheapest online store. I probably could have got it cheaper elsewhere but it was one of those 'oh I want one of thise now' purchases!! However, I am very happy with the camera - it's little and it's 12.1 megapixels. Much easier to carry around in my handbag as opposed to my 400D!!!

Would anyone happen to know where one could order the nalgesic cumerone from (besides a vet)? Cumerone is a liquid form of tumeric which is known to be a natural anti inflammatoty and it really seems to be helping my westie with his HD & osteo. Also - has anyone ever used the services of acupet ? If you have can you please provide some feedback.

When you meet the people you will know whether to let Buddy go or not.

The games were awesome - you guys & your dogs were terrific to watch. I LOVED Moses - I though he and Le Hammer's Doc were the hits of the show - they were so funny and really entertained the crowd which was Awesome. Canine Disc was interesting - LOVED Jade Flyball was terrific - I think that really got the crowd going - geeez some of the dogs were fast!!! Shame there wasn't more agility. I was wondering if the agility dogs were a little uncomfortable running on what potentially looked like slippery flooring (astro turf??). Would it have been better to put some sort of rubber flooring down similar to what they use in indoor agility arena's in the USA?

All my 3 dogs went to Karin Bridges SMART dog training clicker classes - highly recommend attending. Classes are held at St Ives showground and are lots of fun for you and your dog My vet recommendation would be North Willoughby Vet in High St Willoughby - I travel there from the Epping area with my dogs.

Training Articles For Novice Owner

This article has some good points. Tips for Managing Kids & Dogs -
Hey juice - sorry to hear about your dally - it's a little sad when they get elderly hey! Here is an article which may be worth reading. I recently discovered my 9 yr old westie has HD & oseto-arthritis and looked into a few options. Had the catrophen (pentosan) shots to begin with and then the vet suggested rimdayl (no thanks!). Looked at the stem cell therapy but that was a little out of the price range. Operation was a not an option for a dog under 20kgs. So we headed to the Natural Vet at Russell Lea where my pooch is having acupuncture (once a week for 4 weeks, then every 2 weeks over 6 weeks and now once a month) + chinese herbs and a nalgesic called 'cumerone liquid' (contains tumeric which is a natural anti-inflammatory) and I swear it has made a big difference. I also give him a daily technyflex tablet and when they run out will switch over to Glyde. I also now give Glyde to the younger 2 dogs as a preventative. Having had a look at the ingredients of JointGuard - it doesn't seem to contain the Omega 3's which products like glyde & technyflex do have. Acupuncture is not that expensive and it really does seem to work wonders (in conjunction with the herbs & cumerone). If you can find an animal acupuncturist in your area it's a worthwhile option to look into. Also, if your dally is carrying any excess weight - get the weight off as this helps reduce the pressure off the joints. Finally, if you can get your hands on some memory foam for supportive bedding - that will help your dally too.
