I'm sure he will, fussy little thing that he is! At least it's working for now! And i've got all the other suggestions parked in my brain to bring out when he gets sick of frankfurters (probably tomorrow! haha!)
-
Frankfurters!!!! Wonderful things they are!!!! He loves them! I even threw in a quick training session, and he was so keen for a treat he sat and then stayed there when i walked away (he's my shadow at the moment) and just looked at me like, come on mum, where's my treat i'm still sitting!! Yay! Okay problem solved. He also was reacting well to tinned salmon this morning for "weewees" but frankfurters are much easier!! Also, he's finally interested in his puppy kong!! Well he was playing with it before without anything in, but everytime i'd put something in he'd lick it then walk away. Now it's the most exciting thing in the world!! Frankfurters are wonderful aren't they!!

Sounds like our ktichen! But you forgot crazy martian milkshake maker.
-
You can get them in tins.. in the... er.... tinned food section? Ya know... where they have tinned beans etc... haha, no sorry, i meant is Natures Gifts in the food section!! Silly me!
-
Cut up bits of frankfurters will prob work!! Is that in the pet food section?? I might have a look! haha! i think that's his thought exactly!! ....... Call puppy biscuits treats??!!
-
What about using his dinner food. That way you are treating the puppy and not overfeeding him. The tastier the treat, the more the puppy will be willing to work for it Cheers, Henrynchlo We always take his treats out of his food for the day that he's allowed. But we feed him a variety of raw meaty bones, and a mixture of raw pet mince and mushed up raw veggies, so we can't really give him any of it as treats, it's a bit messy!

We tried liver treats for a day, but then the vet told us they were really full of fat, and he said only use them sparingly, so not really ideal when trying to toilet train! (Also, it made his poo very black sticky and smelly ) i'm thinking he's become snobby after the yummy liver treats!

We're still toilet training our pup, and we've been using Eukanuba puppy biscuits, as treats. Mainly for toilet training but also for teaching him to sit, and i'm trying to train him to walk on a lead at the moment too. Anyway, for the last couple of days he's been not taking the treats from us when he try and reward him. Sometimes he'll take them in his mouth then spit them out a couple of steps later, but mainly he'll sniff then walk away. So we've been just praising him profusely, but he seems to be going backwards with toilet training. Any suggestions would be more than welcome! we started using anzac cookies but they've got so much sugar in them i don't want to use them too much

Oh oops! Hee hee, it's a good sheet though, it's what i gave my partner to read to convince him that raw foods si better for our pup! Well... sorry bout that, can't wait to read the new one!

Excellent!! Thanks for the info Jacq!! We've been feeding him eukanuba with various bits and pieces mixed through, leftovers and what not, but he's a fussy little eater!! I gave him a small piece of lamb ribs today and he chomped it down, so i think raw food is the answer for him.
-
Yep, going to be quite a small dog, we think the size of a mini foxy. I bought a couple of kilos of chicken necks from the butcher today, i'll have to find somewhere to buy otherstuff! I asked about turkey necks and lamb necks, and he looked at me like i was a little loopy!
-
I'm guessing you learned that from expereince poodlefan?? Thanks for the tip! I was worried with him about choking on bones.... but everyone i've spoken to says bones should be fine as long as they're raw.
-
Okay, I've just bought feed your dog a bone and the barf diet. These should do me fine for the moment i think! Thanks everyone for the help!
-
Yeah, basically what the title says! I want to start feeding our puppy based on the BARF diet, but I'm wondering whether i need to modify it for puppies?? He's 10 wks, and only 2.2 kgs (Staffy x ?, prob something very small, cos he's so small!) i was thinking i'd have to be careful about calcium, making sure he gets enough, but not too much?? Has anyone got any suggestions or help??

For all those people who wanted to see the fact sheet after she did it I found this on her website: http://www.naturalanimalcare.com/factsheet...20Nutrition.htm And thanks for all the info in the thread, I'm going to now steal some of your ideas for diets for my pup!! Thanks! ;)

What Are The Benefit's Of Crates
keels replied to keels's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Thanks Little Pixie!! In all the stuff I've read (lots of articles out there) not one has mentioned taking off the dogs collar!!! Now that i think of ti, that could turn into a very unfortunate situation if it was to get caught without you around!!! :D Purple!!!! ;) How cute!!!! Very nice TKS! Thank god mine was only limited colours cos it's off ebay (plain black) otherwise we'd have it in blue, just like his lead, collar, both water and food bowls (different shades of blue) half of his toys, good thing he's a boy!!!! Blue is both our favourite colour, but my guy is obsessed with it, i had a nice little food bowl for him (one he wouldn't fall into!!) and he found a massive one in blue, and was trying to make me get that instead (trying to insist it was best cos he could grow into it!! more like fall into it!) luckily i found a little one in blue, and we were both happy!! -

Apparently they do (according to this persons ad)!! But if it's dodgy, or doesn't work well, i'll just use a bit of plywood like you said, or actually, my dad could make something up (hee hee, love having a handy dad!!) -

That's a good idea, i hadn't thought of that! I just realised you and Bow Wow had dogs from Cordelia's Canine Rescue! That's where we're getting our little one from!! We're picking him up this Sunday cos he was too little to be desexed when we saw him. Thanks for the eBay tip, I'll have a look! Am i right in thinking they should be big enough for them to stand, turn around, lay down on their side and not much bigger than that?? -

Thank you so much everyone for sharing your experiences! Skybreaker, your dogs are all beautiful!! It's good to hear that the dogs themselves like being in them, and like to sleep in them and go in there of their own accord. Now we just have to find one - my local pet supply warehouse place only had play pens!!! No crates, when i asked the guy looked at me blankly and showed me the plastic transport crate things, but I would prefer a wire crate, I told him that and he goes, oh a cage?? Grrrr.... no not a cage, a crate!! And I just wanted to say this is a great forum, I'm glad I stumbled across it!! -
Hi, I'm new here, and we've just decided on buying a puppy. We (my partner and i) agree on everything except for crate training...... I think it's a good idea to give him a place to himself, I remember both my family dogs (before they got too big) used to go under the coffee table as a refuge every now and then, and i imagine it's the same sort of thing. I also think it's good for him to sleep in at night, as i'd like him to sleep inside without having to worry about accidents inside etc. My partner however, thinks it's cruel to lock him up in a 'cage'! I've read lots of articles about it, and printed them for him to read, but he still thinks it's cruel to coop him up (even though it will only be for a short time, and he'll get lots of exercise in morning by me and afternoon by him). I'm wondering if any people out there with training or breeding experience can help me? or even just dog lovers/owners like me that have crate trained there dogs. I'd like to be able to show him that people really do crate train dogs, and it's not cruel etc!! Also, any tips would be good, as it's hard to get crate training advice in australia!! Thank you!!!!
