We had my dad's Chocolate Lab, Milo, desexed and when we picked him up the next day all the nurses were in love with him (he's still that kinda dog) lol... We walked him out to the car and he was wobbling all over the place, bumping into me and looking at me as if to say "Geez, canya walk in a straight line?!" then crashing into the back of dad's legs... It was cruel to laugh but he was just too damn heavy to carry. He was fine by bed time that night. No vomiting, no licking... No elizabethan collar either. Pepper goes in next month, I'll tell you all all the horror stories then... If his vaccination/microchipping two weeks ago was anything to go by, they'll pay me not to bring him in again! He screamed something shocking when she jabbed him with the needle... Took him out the back to the "Sound proof booth" for the microchip he was that loud. I bet he'll be one of those "sit on his butt and cry for a week" ones

My pap Pepper only humps when he's feelingn particularly small or not in control. He humped a toy at Puppy pre-school because one of the other dogs was trying to hump him during 'free play' time. Also, he has a stuffed toy of his own, a little toy dog sort of like a CKCS.. He occasionally humped that, usually during a vigorous scruffing... I distracted him or growled or clapped my hands when he did it and he hasn't done it for a while, I'm hoping he's grown out of it... He's also getting de-sexed mid Sep (He's on limited register) Good luck! PS... How bout a pic?

hahaha. Coke vs water. I love it. I was giving him milk because the breeder suggested it. But, I suppose he'll be getting all the calcium he needs in the dry food. Thanks I'll give it a shot.

I haven't heard the tea tree oil one. But i use a mix of 2:1 vinegar and water. It masks their scent quite well. I use it after cleaning up both puddles and presents. Somedays I feel like mopping the floor with it! I also use a 'housebreaking aid' scent in a bottle. I put 2 drops on a pee pad and (important) wait for them to sink in... I didn't wait once, he rolled in the drops! The scent got into his bedding and he peed in there Anyway, turns out the local puppy pre-school uses the same mix of vinegar and water. Good luck.

I seem to have the opposite problem. My puppy is barely drinking any water at all... I was putting down a bowl of milk (lactose free), a bowl of water and his food bowl. He is being fed Eukanuba puppy food for small breeds (He's a Papillon). Now, he'll drink the milk, sniff the water, and wont touch the food unless he's stood in his bowl and some has fallen on the floor. I put water in the milk bowl today with enough milk to colour it... but foiled! He knew it wasn't real milk. Is it normal that he doesn't want water?

I read that a male will cock his leg to mark something over the previous mark. Because the marking on the tree/post/chair leg () shows how tall the previous dog is. By lifting his leg your dog can convince others that he's taller and therefore scarier and more dominant than he really is. The writer then went on to tell of a Basenji, I think, that would actually run up a tree trunk while peeing.. I guess the other dogs would have thought there was a horse-sized dog wandering around the neighbourhood

I'm actually not home that often. I took some leave from work so that I could get him started on the toilet training and get the socialising done early. When I do work I work 12hr shifts for 4 days. He's a strange little boy, and a total dag! I'll keep going with the pads, I just hope he'll go when i can see him so I can praise. It's just good to hear I'm not the only owner of a 'modest dog' Thanks

Good to hear all is well then. Only child = lots of cuddles!

My dad has a chocolate lab and if yours is anything like Milo, he's eaten every damn thing he can find! Do you have any other dogs that he may've been stealing food from? We found that was a big issue with Milo, we'd take him down to the kennel with the other two at night and in the morning he'd be bloated and slobbering. Turns out the other two were leaving some food for later in the night and he's run down and gobble it all up. We fixed that by feeding the others early and keeping him separate during meal times. Re the onion, would it have rolled out of a cupboard unnoticed? Hope everything goes well.

I have a fun one here.. I'm currently trying to toilet train my 10wk old Pap. I'm using pee pads and the housebreaking scent. He mostly goes on the pad. However, not when I'm around! We just went for a big walk. Well, it was only a block, but the biggest walk he's had so far. We came back inside and I put him on the pad and said "Pepper, toilet!" Well... nothing, for about 10min. Which is fine, I know it can take a while. But I stepped out of the pen for a second and I turn around and he's squatted on a towel! I pick him up and carry him back to the pad but he's decided that he's finished now that I'm back in there with him and he'll sit next to me and look at what I'm looking at. After all that... Question - How do I reinforce the good toilet behaviour and give it a name if he wont go when I can see it? ps. I did some 'sit' training with him yesterday and he's much quicker to stop crying now.

Thanks Nekhbet. That's what I've been trying to do and will continue to do so. He's enrolled in puppy pre-school and starts Thursday, fingers crossed that will work!

I can fully sympathise. I just collected an adorable 10wk old Papillon.. However, unless I'm holding him or sitting in the kitchen with him, he's howling or crying or whining. It's beginning to feel like he's just crying for the sake of it. He's got toys, food, water, milk and a place to toilet. It's not a "my life in in danger!" scream, just crying and crying and crying. He's been crying on an off since about 6 this morning. I'm just glad I took some time off work to get him settled... How can I fix this behaviour?
