  1. Hi there - can't really answer any of your questions but did look on the puppy listings here and there are two breeders of Cavs in WA - one with a litter due in July http://trescaval.topcities.com/ and one with pups available now http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/member.asp?name=GEMSONG
  2. and shared on my wall - hopefully some of them read it through the haze of a QLD victory hangover and vote.
  3. hopefully my vote wasn't too late - because it just put you in the lead by one.
  4. We had a similar situation when I was growing up at home. We had a neighbour two doors down who had it in for us (he went to kick my sister for entering his yard to get a ball - I caught him and chased him up his stairs - my sister was 8 I was around 16 - he was around 40, anyways beside the point). He called the council around 20 times saying that my dad's greyhounds were barking non-stop all day everyday - we went and saw him and told him it wasn't our dogs (they never ever barked) and that next time could he come down the two doors to make sure it wasn't ours before complaining again. He told us to eff off. He kept complaining and the council did 5 spy/investigation trips to our house - not once were the dogs barking. The council even commented on how well looked after and equipped the dogs were. The man complained again and got issued a warning that if he complained once more the council would take action against him. We had nightmares with this bloke - and as a youngster it took all my might not to abuse and threaten him. He even smashed our other neighbours window by hitting it with a broom to tell them to turn the music down. i don't know where I was going with this I kind of went off on a tangent - oh yeah, the council in our case were great and could see a frivolous complaint - never did we feel hassled by them.
  5. seriously this thread could've been wrapped up in two posts. The staffy is at fault for rushing and then attacking unprovoked. Whether the husky has a weak nerve or not has no bearing on the staffys behaviour. For Joe's peace of mind - say you are correct and yep the Husky is weak of nerve, does this then validate the Staffys behaviour? I would say no.
  6. I don't know if this is relevant or even correct but - if you are sitting down are you about the same height as him? therefore putting you at his level so he sees himself equal? A lot of dogs I know only obey orders from people from a height i.e. standing up.
  7. Yeah for a Lab.......thanx for everyones input, you have all been very helpful! Boonie is a Lab and he loves Eukanuba.
  8. I dread reading these threads (and yet I still do) purely because Boonie is on Eukanuba and sometimes i feel like I'm doing him a disservice when people poo poo it. Still he is thriving on it so will stick with it. That may change when we hit the adult food.
  9. contact paypal - let them know you've contacted and emailed the site - you will get your money back.
  10. When myself or my wife get home from work Boonie will run and grab his empty Kong - wait at the door, once it's open he'll run to where his treats/food and Kong are kept - will wait for me to take it out of his mouth and put it away and then he gets a treat. Every day without fail. It's good for us as we don't have to go searching for it.
  11. I thought Pet Plan Australia was also separate??
  12. Boonie still tries it and he was desexed at 6mths - i know of plenty that do. Dominance is one reason - but I still think they get the urge you know.
  13. exactly - I know for damn sure if any of my mates owed me money and were then advertising around about there next big purchase I'd be saying something. along the lines of "I better have that $XXX you owe me before I see that dog in your house - cause if you can afford that you can afford pay me back" And if they took offence to that and it caused dramas then I wouldn't care - they wouldn't be the type of people I'd call mates.
  14. My view is that I'll take the risk - I'm always on high alert not just to what Boonie is up to but what the other dogs around are up to. I have seen maybe 3 fights in a year and none have been all that serious and all were broken up by their owners right as they happened. I'll take the risk of Boonie getting into a scrap to let him enjoy the type of play he can get at a Dog Park that I've yet to find he can get anywhere else. Truth is most of the dogs that go to our park are regulars and Boonie knows who plays in his style and who doesn't. I take Oakway's point - I'm always on guard about a fight, but I think the positives definitely outweight the negatives. The Dog Park has been a great tool for breaking prejudices I had about other breeds also. Boonie's best play friends down the park happen to be a Bull Terrier, Staffy and GSD. I would have been quite wary of these types of dogs pre dog park.
  15. oh really? goodness, well I am feeding her say about 3 cups of food, twice a day? *cringe* oh s**t you're going to tell me Im feeding her too much arent you?? I have a growing lab and I've never fed him 6 cups a day - he's at around 3 cups at 11mths. I use Eukanuba so possibly amounts can differ but I'd suggest 6 is quite a bit too much. The most he's ever been fed is 4 cups a day. We were told by quite a few people to not use Supercoat - but then we were new at it and took their word for it.
  16. Boonie will get done weekly, sometimes fortnightly if we don't fit it in. Purely because he'll start to smell and he's an inside dog - who spends the day outside. He rolls in any water he can find, gets covered in other dogs drool. So without the baths would get too dirty and smelly. His coat is shiny and we have no skin problems from doing this. I wonder if people who don't wash their dogs and can't smell the smell have just gotten used to it? and there really is a smell. I have no doubt that there would be dogs who don't need washing and don't smell but I know of plenty of people who think their house doesn't smell of dog but the smell hits you in the face when you walk in. I'm a dog lover so don't care about the smell too much - I just get a little paranoid the house will stink otherwise.
  17. Thanks Keira - will definitely give Wynnum Esp a go - have mates who live in Wynnum who own a lab as well. We tried Kroll Gardens (I used to live in Redcliffe so knew of it) but really didn't like it - just got an uneasy feel about the place.
  18. Okay - calling all Brisbane dog owners - where are your favourite haunts/walks/parks/rivers/beaches for you and your dog? Boonie loves Nudgee Beach, Kedron Brook, Shaw Park running with me, and plenty of dog parks in the area. Please let me in on any gems of places we may be missing.
  19. just google "vary rare breed" jrt x rottie it will come up. irony of the site it's on having an ad/warning to report puppy mills.
  20. I don't know about the pulling of the back legs - but my dad used to always lift his greyhounds back legs higher than their heads and they would instantly drop whatever they were on.
  21. Boonie was named after the legendary cricketer David Boon. He was short, stout and had a furry upper lip - perfect match.
  22. I must admit I used to be quite wary of them - although I love the look of the dog - because of a childhood experience and some terrible owners of one (again badly trained dog - not just because it was a Bull Terrier) but Boonie's (our lab) best friend down the dog park is a BT named Gary - Gary protected Boonie from a fight with a boxer when Boon was all of 3 or 4mths of age - ever since best mates. Absolutely lovely dog.
